It seems like this functionality wasn't intended by the Blob Opera designer, so it's really cool that someone picked up on it. :) Any idea on how to make the blobs use different syllables for each note? EDIT: My Firefox browser doesn't seem to pick up the loopMIDI port, but Microsoft Edge does.

In the future, I'd like to try Blob Opera with a music keyboard, so when I finally do that, I'll let you know how to use different syllables for each note. For now, I only know how to do that by moving the blobs manually with your mouse. I've only tested Blob Opera with Opera (which uses Blink, which is based on Chromium, the project Google Chrome is based around), so this tutorial isn't exactly all-encompassing, just all-encompassing for me and my current limited knowledge of MIDI technology. Anyways, thanks for liking my video!

@@boingo696 I followed the instructions in the video, except I opened Blob Opera in Microsoft Edge rather than Opera. I called the ports in loopMIDI different things, as I added and removed several, and it didn't seem to matter what the ports were called.

Thank you for sharing this interesting way to use the program. Do you know how your audio is so clear when the blobs sing? I've tried multiple devices and when they all sing there is an audio bug that sounds like an electronic click sound and I can't figure out how to remove it. :/

Thank you very much for the tutorial! I do not know how quickly you will respond, but still. I use a MidiPlayer and insert my own midi files into it to play, but when I play, I have both the sound of blobs and piano sounds from the program playing at the same time. How can I turn off the piano sounds? Thank you in advance for the answer!

I did all you said and when I pushed the play button the midi started playing in the player but not in blob opera. What could be wrong? I literally did every step you suggested. Midi is a 3 voice one, it has a preset sound of steel string guitar, I am using firefox. Edit: used Edge and or worked. Thanks a lot!

how do you make it so its not making little clicking noises? Every single one I make does this, even if I edit the midi to be more simple. Seems to be a blob opera thing, but yours doesn't do it.

Thanks for the comment! Glad you loved the video! Unfortunately, there's currently no way to both run MIDIs in Blob Opera and NOT have the clicking noises. I think Google updated Blob Opera sometime in early-mid April, and this update messed with the way MIDIs are played through the program. In fact, outside of Firefox (which doesn't seem to work with loopMIDI because I don't think Firefox has MIDI support), every browser that you run Blob Opera in has these weird clicking noises that are unavoidable. I wish Google would fix Blob Opera, or at least roll the program back to an older version, but until then, I can't make Blob Opera MIDI videos. I can still make Blob Opera sketches (which I call 'Blore' on my channel), but I really don't have the incentive to make those frequently (just occasionally).

Wow, I didn't actually know that you could play blob opera with a midi controller, tried it, and it's awsome, there's a bit of latency but hey, it's fun. At the beginning I thought that Loopmidi was enabling me to play with a midi keyboard, but it's actually part of blob opera. Now I know what this software is actually doing, it just allows midi files to be played through any midi instrument.

So aparently if you set it up for Microsoft Edge, google chrome will also latch onto the connection, but try google chrome itself doesnt work.

I randomly discovered Blob Opera today and came to this tutorial, and when I followed it it seems that midiplayer doesn't recognize the loopMIDI port. Does anyone know what to do?

In Opera (which is what I use most of the time for Blob Opera), and already having all these programs running, try just CLOSING the Blob Opera tab and reopening it. I thought that was a solution for at least a few people out there. Let me know how it works out!

There are A LOT of MIDI-making programs out there. I’m not sure if you’re lookin’ for an advanced DAW (Digital audio workstation) or a basic online program; I don’t have a list in front of me right now. As for MIDIs you can find, I put a few GREAT places in the description of this video. Hope this helps!

It works with Chrome. Try naming your port 'Google Chrome'.

Fantastic tutorial! One nitpick; you should have told us to restart Blob Opera if we opened it before Midi Player!! That got me stuck for ages!!! One question: is it possible for Midi Player to not immediately skip to the next track / repeat during playback? Sometimes the first note of the next song sneaks into the Blob Opera recording I'm making and means I have to start over!!

Wow, like 5 seconds after posting, I found the answer; right click in the MIDI files area (below Pitch, Modulation, Sustain, etc) and untick Autoplay!

How do I upload a completed Blob Opera recording to KZbin?

When I record something with Blob Opera, I load OBS, record the playback (in full screen), edit the output in Vegas, render a NEW output (for this new version of Blob Opera, I've been rendering my edits in the same FPS I record them in, which is 60 FPS), give the edited video a thumbnail and post it on KZbin with a description and tags. It might not. If you click on the ‘?’ button in Blob Opera, I believe it says it uses “the latest audio technologies”, which is probably referring to the latest audio technologies of late 2020, when the program was published by Google. By then, Windows 7 had LONG been out-of-date. Anyways, hope my ramblings helped!

Just downloaded and tried Opera GX with my tutorial setup. It seems to work just like my regular browser, Opera, so if you follow the steps in the video, you should get it to work! Let me know if you need any help with anything specific!

Try running just the necessary programs before you play a song in Blob Opera.

Try clicking ‘Device Settings…’ and make sure ‘Use Bass (Soundfonts/VSTi)’ at the top is UNchecked. Hope this helps!

You could try using these programs with Wine (the Windows compatibility software). Outside of that, I don’t know; I’ve never tried this process on a Mac because I don’t have access to one.

I tried the precise steps, but sadly it doesn't work, I even use my existing MIDI files like those of Classical Music from Chessmaster or even any from Musescore, the Blobs don't play for some reason. My Firefox & Chrome works. I wish there's a proper tool or program via EXE in order to make the conversion possible, not some Github programming hacky stuff that will convert any MIDI files for Blob Opera use. EDIT 1 : Hmm... I tried one from Bitmidi, it works. Hmm... I wonder why it works when other MIDI files don't. EDIT 2 : It takes a while to finally load and work. Just need a clean loopMIDI.

What didn’t work? If you could be more specific, maybe I can help. Here’s two things you can try: DON’T use Firefox (Opera and Chrome work), and if everything’s set up and Blob Opera doesn’t respond, close out of the Blob Opera tab and open it up again. Hopefully, you’ll get it to work somehow!

No. Only midi files do. Here, lemme explain. Think of a midi file as a list of commands, the midi player as the sender of the commands to LOOPmidi, and LOOPmidi sends those commands to the reciever. which in this case, the blob opera website. Hope this helps. :)
