Well done John, I'm going to make one myself and that's about what I'm looking at, thanks. Stewart, south west Australia.

hi! amazing job! whats the blade angle? you cut a 50° for the bedding angle, generally the blades have a 25°, so 25°+50° seems too much or its just fine for more agressive cutting?

Cutting the 60 degree angle with your fingers millimeters from the blade is recipe for disaster...I would have moved the whole block up a bit to give something substantial to hold on to.

I was just gonna say that. Great video otherwise

That's class man well done. I was just watching another one of your plane videos again , I know you are breaking away from old faithful but my question is do you ever use any other plane since you got the low angle? And you have to invest in a drill press . Looking forward to the next one!!!

I use that low angle for almost everything it is that good! if you can justify spending the money on one you won't be dissapointed. A pillar drill is next on the list badly need one.

"It’s autumn in Ireland and it’s raining." You could say that for any season in Ireland, says the man who lives in Lancashire! I know you weren’t at all happy with your Faithful block plane, and this was a brilliant build. I really enjoyed watching the process and it certainly was a job well done. It seems you are heading toward a hybrid shop using a mixture of hand and power tools, much like my own. I’ve cannibalised a couple of old planes, which has left me with a some spare blades. I have some odd hollows and rounds, (odd as not sets, I don’t mean strange) and I’m planning of making them into pairs using the blades I have. Though as I’m cutting and shaping the blades I might need to retemper them but I'll use a propane torch, a magnet and the kitchen oven. Fortunately I can use the pairs I have got as templates, just shrink or enlarge the dimensions. For me personally I think this is your best video yet. Thank you.
