You do know that companies run private blockchains right? The power consumption of those is no more than running a few servers. For public ones, not every blockchain uses the proof of work consensus algorithm which is an ecological disaster. Proof of stake is a very good alternative to proof of work since is uses less than 1% of it's energy consumption.
