About forty-five years ago, whilst working as a jobbing gardener, doing contract work for an HOA, i put some drain rods, ( more like thirty years old chimney sweeping rods) through an old mans drain, (he was in tears), i was already being paid by the HOA, so saw no point in charging him anything. Took about two hours of twisting and turning and cleared his drains, total cost to him, a cup of tea when ever we came by trimming the hedges, or edging the lawns. Sounds like a Yowie clearing his throat! This is the difference between you and them other fellas, you know exactly what you are doing and know what your tools are capable of. Them others are probably sitting in their car, not doing work elsewhere. As you were pulling that last lot out, i half expected to see a tree being sucked down into the lawn.

Why no motorized drain snake with a cutting attachment??

@@maddycatgamer83 those cutters make a mess of the smooth insides of plastic pipe. I had a sanitary sewer pipe that got clogged on a regular basis. I finally got tired of it and dug up the part that had a root pinched over the top. The inside of the pipe was scarred and cut up so bad paper clung to the entire section. I dug the rest up to the sidewalk and replaced it. As far as I know there has been no problems in 20 years. Sure the flattened part played a part in the beginning but the pipe had grooves like pipe threads the whole length. If you have no choice go for it but it is going to make a mess of plastic pipe. Good show lad! A hard won victory but a victory it is. I think you were being hamstrung at first by that broken valve. That ball could have been a disaster and wedged up your cutter. A baseball had me sweating bricks one time just running a snake up a pipe. I finally pushed it back up to a clean out and had to make a rod with a wood screw welded to the end to drill into the ball and pull it up the 5 feet (meter and a half) to daylight. That was EPIC!!!! Best Yet! Nice dark chocolate river, seemed carbonated. Like Chocolate fizzy pop. Absolutely unreal spaghetti haul. And a gobstopper to top it off. Easily a 15/10 Willy Wonka rating. When it started and i saw grey shorts and work boots I thought, who is this guy and what did he do with Gavin. But it really was you. NOBODY else could have done that. I will say, if either mad ball or toad had gotten run over, you would have lost all your points. I kept watching toad flat on his back in the road and so worried. Dude! I love it when someone says it can't be done. I cannot tell you the number of times I've heard (insert computer chain store here) that the owners computer can't be fixed and they just need to buy a new one. They bring it to me and it just gets fixed. Best story I have is a newly wed lady is frantic as Geek Squad said there was nothing they could do to recover he wedding photos off her computers hard drive. The drive was making that click click grind noise and refused to boot. Hooked the drive up to my recovery Linux machine, recovered all of her files not just the wedding photos, and just the look on her face was worth the effort. You are a true inspiration. Put in the effort and get it done. Thank you for being a prime example of a good person!

When the going gets tough, the Penetrator get going, and going, and going. Even up till your elbow in the pipe, luckily that didn’t get stuck 😅 I saw a plumber using an iron rod with a spiral hook at the end, so he could get stuff out (wet wipes and clumps of tiny roots). Great job of getting it cleared and providing a clear solution to prevent it from reoccurring. I would like to know how long that guy has lived in the house. Unless he just recently moved in there I would say he deserves to suffer financially a little bit for letting it go so long before addressing the problem. Hopefully if he doesn't fix it he will call you and get it cleaned up on a regular enough basis that it can be easily cleaned. Like they say the difference between good maintenance and bad maintenance, Good maintenance takes time and costs money. Bad maintenance simply takes more of both.

Confucius say people who grow trees on property deserve blocked drains. :) I've already had to spend a sizeable sum and amount of my own time repairing the damage done by a flame and a white cedar tree neither of which were even on my property and I'm still finding roots. On a positive note it's a pleasant change to see a plumber who doesn't mind some hard work for a reasonable remuneration. Probably this drain should be replaced else the tree will again send more roots into it but $13K for a straight shallow run of PVC does seem exorbitant.

I have often thought wearing a rain suit might help with some of the messy jobs. Perhaps even disposable Tyvek suit? Just use it for a few days / weeks and toss it when it gets too bad. Taller boots might even be a consideration. In my area we are rural enough that you might even get away with a portable shower on the back of the truck. Wouldn't that be nice on a hot day?

I got quoted $350 to clear a blocked storm water pit send 2 blokes around was here for like 10 minutes didn’t seem to put any effort into the job 1 month later invoice turns up $680 I still haven’t paid last month blocked up again got hold of another company $300 they fixed it and they told me and showed me the other company didn’t do the job right

A lot of hard yakka for the money! If the other plumbers did not have the tools then I can guess why they quoted to dig the whole thing up for silly money because they really really didn't want to dig it all up. The right tools plus the willingness to put in the work is what pays dividends. If you're a plumber working for someone else, would you bother working so hard? Besides which you have a KZbin reputation to defend and if the customer wants to know what they got for their money, they can watch it for themselves. That pipe was nearly solid roots so it was a good video. Any video that avoids mention of sweetcorn is a good video.
