2009 XR1200 crank. It's a weight savings of about 4lbs on the crank. There's ur 10+ hp. That's what I have in my 1207 with hammer porting,600 cams, intake, s&s roller rockers. Hasn't been to the dyno. But it was put together with the stock crank and I wasn't happy. Bought the xr crank and rods and the other components needed took it all apart. Put it all back to together and seat of the pants dyno plus a few runs at the race track confirm it picked up power. Went from a 12.53 to 12.19 quarter mile. Keep in mind I weigh 255lbs. Plus the bike. Oh by the way my bike is a 05 carb bike not fi. Only a 42 mm mikuni with Daytona twin tec ignition.

I converted my 18' Iron to 1200 with the screamin eagle kit and upgraded injectors, throttle body, heavy breather, magna flow 2-1, TTS tune and I get 90 hp and 80 lb-ft torque. I also threw on a pair of Legend Rev ARC shocks. It handles the freeway better than my stock Ultra Limited air shocks.

With the way it noses over, your having pumping losses and the only thing now that could cause that is the exhaust. I'd put a magnaflow f-bomb on there and see if you can crack 120hp.
@rustbeltflow35233 жыл бұрын
Well....there is one other thing that causes that . I have a set of their 2.0” intake ”Sledge” Twin Cam heads with over 210fps velocity gradient from port floor to roof. 440fps + with terrible separation over the short turn after .25D and it's one of the nosiest ports I've ever tested . The gradient is so bad the top quarter of the port flows backwards intermittently and flow stalls totally just shy of .600 lift. Granted , this was a set of Twin Cam heads but I too was 10hp (actually 11) short of the ”as promised” figure . There were several other issues with the whole process that I'll detail in another post but my experience was eerily similar to what you see here . Caveat Emptor

Are you absolutely positive of the fuel hammer is using for their 130+ hp numbers? In most other racing and performance platforms (drag racing, auto cross, etc. ) the rules regulate the fuels due to the performance advantage. These classes have people with the same exact builds but different modern fuels that allow for insane power and time differences. A good fuel can make it safe to add timing and lean on cheaper builds where privateers can compete with big factory teams.

My money is on the exhaust that is the kink in the system. If everything when it comes to the engine mechanically is the same as Hammer's 120hp kit (heads, cams, pistons, etc) then the only thing that your bike does *not* have that theirs does is the Patriot Defender pipe. Go look at Hammer's XL exhaust dyno library where they've compiled dyno sheets from several exhaust setups and ran them back to back with the Patriot Defender. Only about 3 exhaust setups were able to come within ~1 to 1.5hp of the Defender, at the cost of suffering somewhere in the powerband compared to the Defender. Hammer has a dyno sheet of the D&D Bobcat with two different baffles compared to the Defender and still came up short. At the end of the day Block, dyno sheets are just numbers on a piece of paper. You own your shit after it all and if someone wants to talk smack about their dyno sheet to yours, tell em to lay it on the blacktop and find out whose bike really *is* faster. Love the build, love what you've been doing with it and can't wait to see what else is in store for the Sporty!

The block head crew was fast to jump to the blame game because they spent ‘money’ on the kit. Bashing a company before trying different exhaust is laughable at best. So 2 things I can think of for the missing power. A) was Hammer Performance's example bike chain drive? The vibration through that belt has to be sapping some power. B) if their example bike was in fact belt, the throttle body and intake manifold is clearly not the choke point in the engine, so guessing either heads need some porting, or needs a hotter cam because it's clearly not revving out as much as it could be. Higher compression pistons might help too, but if you're already pushing the limits of 91 octane pump gas that may be a non-starter. Love the exhaust on that though, that motor sounds like a beast

I am not sure what pipes are those, but the Hammer kit is very moody when it comes to pipes. The primary pipes on the video look a little long by about 2-3 inches. Long primaries are for more torque. IMO the old version of the patriot defender is the best header for the Hammer kit. Also, I didn't hear any mentioning of ignition coils or spark plugs. Consider the AEM Smart Coils and e3 sparkplugs. I run about 2 ounces of Prolong in my crankcase as well! As they say, 100 pennies make a dollar!

Wait that is 111.84hp at the rear wheel right? The horsepower at the crank (the output of the engine) is always higher than the horsepower delivered to the wheels, because power is lost due to friction in the transmission, differential, wheel bearings, and tire-road interface, among other things. This is often referred to as drivetrain loss. The actual amount of power loss can depend on a lot of factors and varies from vehicle to vehicle, but a common rule of thumb for motorcycles is a drivetrain loss of approximately 10-15%. If we take an average drivetrain loss of 12.5% and reverse the calculation from wheel horsepower to crank horsepower, we can use the following formula: Crank horsepower = Wheel horsepower / (1 - drivetrain loss as a fraction) If we plug the given wheel horsepower of 111.84 into this formula, we get: Crank horsepower = 111.84 hp / (1 - 0.125) = 127.82 hp So, based on the 12.5% drivetrain loss estimate, a Harley Davidson Sportster producing 111.84 hp at the rear wheels might have around 127.82 hp "at the crank". Of course, the actual figure could be higher or lower depending on the exact drivetrain efficiency of the specific motorcycle in question. Without specific efficiency data for this model, this is a rough estimate. Correct me if I'm wrong guys, and thank you for the videos. AWESOME.

There's 10 to 15 horse hiding in there, even with correction factors, dyno tuning tuning is still sensative to ambient atmosphere conditions, maybe try for another day. And as differences in the rotating assembly, to my knowledge there's not a lot you can do with the rubbermounts that isn't expensive custom machine work, other than going to lighter carrillo rods. It not like to old frame mounts were you could press in the knife edge buell flywheels for about 10 HP. And if you do split the cases and go into the lower end, you might as well bore them to fit an 88inch kit.
@beardedforlife37403 жыл бұрын
Actually those xr1200/xb crank and flywheel assemblies are a direct fit in the rubber mount bikes. The ridgid mount bikes actually need machine work to fit the crank setup. I'm also pretty sure it doesn't free up 10hp
@oliverdavis19103 жыл бұрын
@@beardedforlife3740 I was thinking of the older pre-2000 knife-edged flywheel cranks from the Thunderstorm engines for frame-mounted sportsters. They're screwed together and considered serviceable, with more available choices on connecting rods. But the XB/XL cranks you brought up are all the same after 2008, and a good upgrade if you have an older rubbermount. But like any harley crank after 2000, they're a pressed together and are considered non-serviceable, so any changes to the crank like different rods, are going to be considerably more involved, so weren't as many options for parts with those cranks.
@beardedforlife37403 жыл бұрын
@@oliverdavis1910 I believe the xb/xr cranks already come with lightweight rods, but I see what you mean in the event you bend a rod. At that point it's probably cheaper to just buy a new crank assembly. Also it doesn't have to be just an older rubber mount. They are a good upgrade for any rubber mount and even the older ridgid mount bikes
@oliverdavis19103 жыл бұрын
@@beardedforlife3740 Its always cheaper to replace the crank as a unit, especially since after 2000. I think that's the only way they were sold anymore. And any Rubbermount sporty or XB buell made after 2008 is going to have that crank. And its a good one just for the larger splines and bigger diameter crank pin alone, in addition to being lighter. If Carillo readily made rods for them, and you could get those rods onto the crank without having to press it all apart, that'd be the way to go. The Carillo rods are far lighter and stronger than anything put out by the factory, and really shine are higher RPM, as well as any weight reduction in the lower end can. As far with frame-mounts, by the time you machine it for fitment with a 2008 XB/XL crank, I feel you'd be right about there in price with aftermarket crank like S&S or built up thunderstorm/carillo crank that are direct fits.

Because blockhead doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s throwing parts at the bike assuming it will fix the self induced problem. The issues are right in front of him but nobody is going to tell him because he bashed Hammer Performance. All he had to do is listen and do this right the first time.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.... Seminole Harley is NOT the one on Rte 192 in Orlando correct? I was vacationing in Orlando/Kissimmee FL taking the family to Disney and drove past the Harley dealership. I believe it said Orlando Harley, but I could be wrong.

@blockhead…. 2 Question here: That manifold/air cleaner. My understanding is that it sticks out further then the stock. How much further are we talking about? Second: from seeing the results here, money wise….would you say it’s safe to say that a ported HPI is worth it? Or a ported stock one based on these results when compared to the money spent.
@beardedforlife37403 жыл бұрын
Comparatively the hpi ported make around 3hp and 1lbft of torque over a ported factory manifold. Also to note with the hpi you can use only there air cleaner
@homeboiz19yee3 жыл бұрын
That smaller one might have been doing better from venturi effect ? Porting looked wicked nice. Would race gas give it a few hp boost?
