Your 8-10 weeks late for me. Just bought my first Sporty. Bought it from a bike shop. Love at first sight, I didn't do any of this, I knew I was going in deep. Had the beginnings of where I wanted to go with her. 04' 1200c, raked wide glide front, full chrome dress & custom wheels. Switched out the drag bars for a set of 12" bars and a bunch of other stuff. Been working on her ever since, a labor of love. Found a pic of the her and Joe (the original owner) holding a trophy. Her name is 'Josie' now.

BUY A 1200!!! Even for your first bike, 1200s aren't much bigger. I promise you'll outgrow the 883 in 6 months and want bigger and be stuck with a note. Everybody told me not to buy an 883 and I did it anyway and regret it lol.

Get the 48 with the 1200 instead. Same frame with more power and better styling in my opinion (except for the dinky 2.2 gallon peanut tank... looks great but sucks on the road especially where I ride a 2020 Street Glide Special with a 6 gallon tank so if that is an issue for you then definitely go with the 1200 Iron). My wife just traded her 2016 48 in because she outgrew it and now is riding a 2018 Deluxe with the M8 107. You'll outgrow an 883 faster than my wife outgrew her 1200.

Nice ‘garage find’ in better than typical condition. Usually, the gas is bad and tank is in rough shape. As you said, you have to find all the little things that add up in repair bills fast. If you can’t do the repairs yourself, it can run into some serious money. Thanks for this overview of the process. Ride safe!

i am not claiming that you are wrong BUT, from my personal experience, here in Fayetteville NC I use ethanol gas cuz its cheaper, and Ive left the gas sitting in jerrycans, in the motorcycle over the winter, in the suv whenever we go on 2-3 month vacations, and I have literally never had issues with the gas gumming up. I use to have a very old chevy blazer that my dad had. It had been parked for over 10 years. One day we just put a new battery and the gas worked fine. It wasn't stabilized or nothin, the car just started right up with a new battery.

Most sellers want the cash in their hand before a test ride. That way if the buyer drops the bike or anything, the seller doesn't need to fight to get the money.
@BlockheadMoto3 жыл бұрын
As Dale said, it’s common etiquette if you want to test ride the bike to put cash in the sellers hand, in case you damage the bike somehow (drop, etc.) The agreement is if you damage it, you bought it 👍🏼

Winter/long time wake up advice: - Make sure the oil isnt crudy, gas isnt bad, and the batt has charge - pull the sparks and spray some fog oil in to coat the cylinders (will lube rings and cylinder walls) - use the starter as an electric oil pump to cycle some oil through the system (helps to have oil pressure gauge but 30s of starting should be good) - replace spark plugs and fire it up - use fuel stabilizer if it is going to sit - disconnect battery if it is going to sit for weeks...pull it and trickle charge if it will be months

You mentioned at the end of the video that you pay tax on the amount you put on the title. Its worth mentioning that depending on where you live, that's not always the case. For example, in Georgia, you pay tax on the VALUE of the bike. Not the amount you paid for it. I found that out when I bought my first bike. Just something to keep in mind. Check with your local tag office to find out how they calculate the tax.

another reason to use non-ethanol gas for anything that will be sitting unused for any more than a month is because ethanol attracts water into the fuel, which we all know is bad. water can easily clog jets and make it darn near impossible to start a bike.
