@@BlockheadMoto hey blockhead, I have a serious question to ask about this install. If I were to relocate the turn signals to the forks I wouldn't need to depin anything or buy extra extensions correct? And the notches you made with the grinder, would I have to do that or was that just for the turn signals? I feel like the job would be easier for me if I just relocated the signals.

Great video Blockhead! I just put Z-bars on my Sportster 72 and running the wiring through the bars was very hard! Those H-D bars certainly looked very easy to do! I ended up running a Teflon tube into my bars and put the wiring inside the tube. I would suggest that in the future you should check out KST Kustoms for wire extension. They make different lengths (6,8, and 12”) that have plugs on them, which make it plug and play! No cutting or soldering necessary!

I’ll look into KST, sounds useful, thanks for the info!

To add a step in there especially if you have an older bike, its good practice to 'preload' the brake lever when tightening or loosening the switch housing or master cylinder. If you dont do that you risk braking off the little plastic piece for the brake light switch and end up having to replace the whole thing.

Hey. Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your content, and watched this particular episode with interest. First off, I have a damaged hand that prevents me from doing a lot of my own work, even simple things that I know how to do. I recently took my 2017 Iron 883 to a H-D dealer to get my handlebars switched. (bikini beach bars, 2 inches taller, 4 inches wider, 2 inches more pull back). First I was told that it was a straight swap. Then I was told I would need a cable kit to make the swap work. I told them to go ahead. A month later they told me they couldn't get the cable kit through their network, and couldn't find one anywhere. I suggested a kit similar to the one used in this video, and pointed out where to get it. I was then told not to use that kit, it was of inferior quality, they would get a "superior" quality kit from a customizer in California, and priced it to me at more than double the price of the kit in this video. I called the California shop, and they sell the same kit used here. I went to the dealer to get my bike back, and was charged $210 dollars for 2 hours labor, "since they had to try out the bars I paid for to see if they would work." Anyway, keep up the great content, and ride safe.

I actually put that same set on my 883 last night. It was my first mod I've ever done, and I was not ready for how much work it was. Super fun and I'm glad I picked bars, it taught me all sorts of important things. All I have left to do is bleed my brakes and I'm good to go. Another funny coincidence is that my name is Wes 🤣

To answer your question at the beginning of the video, michelin man came out first. Up until 2010 Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was a fiction character from Ghostbusters (1984). Stay Puft is based off of the Dough Boy, Michelin, and Angelus Puft Marshmallow Man. Yes my fiance actually looked that up ha ha

BTW Holy WOW! I thought I was the only one doing zip tie brake thing. Learned that after a couple of hours trying to bleed them out fully with no success. Got them close then pumped to a zip tie, ...overnight even...lol P.S. Air escapes out of the master cylinder. Should have a small vent pin hole in the top somewhere, or maybe displaces fluid in the reservoir.

hardest part about doing handlebar jobs is ordering the right length cables and lines. Not trying to be sarcastic. but most people get ones that are too long. here, with both the clutch and brake looping over and back, it gives it a cool custom look that i don't think you intended, but stumbled upon. sometimes lucky works too. nice job.

i fished lines through pipes before and we used string with air pressure to force the string to where it was needed. as for those wires, should have started at the to handle and went down [ while hand . . or tape . . is over the part that does not need to be open , so the string can be exiting at the correct exit ] so that you could get 1 full pull . that way was ok, but took a bit longer. . . but it works. ( sorry, had some experience in that area a while back , just thought i would share some of it with you ) re-bleeding the master cylinder to get the air out is called '' tickling '' [ it is when you barely tug on the break handle to remove the air out of the cylinder chamber ] . the 2 copper washers are just regular crush washers . . . not banjo washers. banjo washers are 2 round ends connected by a single bridge . . . .which is also copper . ( and yes i also had experience in that area as well. . . . . worked at a dealership repairing warranty and worn out parts ) your '' P.S. '' was very funny.

But I’m been told you can stretch the brake like to fit.. but that seems sketchy to me, do you know what length brake line would be best? I don’t wanna have overwhelming amount of excess line. You should consider 48, 1200cc is a big difference.

@@alienvseditor my bike was used when I picked it up last year, it's a 2015 model and I haven't had any problems out of it so far but it has low miles. It really depends on who owned it before and how well they maintained and treated it.

soo I'm going to start this process on my new 2020 48. Is there a place I can get torque specs for all the bolts (specifically the break line bolts) or is it just done by hand?

Tank lift, but there's not one on Laurel's. Unless you're talking about Block's Iron.

Laurel or yanni??? Lol I think it's cool that you let others work on their own bike though you guide them. Gotta learn somehow. As for the rest of us we watch your videos over and over lol. Great vid dude.👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Wait man why can’t you solder on extension wires to your wiring harness? Does a wad of solder add capacitance to the line? I can’t see how else that would throw a code

I think solder and heat shrink over is best. That's how I did mine. Maybe he just didn't show that part. Only the heat shrink after... just maybe. I'm not a fan of crimp connectors in this application.
@facenectar

Solder did cause it to throw codes. We initially did those cheater solder and heat shrink all in one deals but it may have been because I didn't twist the wires together and just let the solder hold it together. It was throwing codes about bus error and losing connection to the left and right control modules. ended up cutting them out and using crimps and none of the codes returned. I'm guessing since Harley switched the sportsters to CAN bus in 2014 the solder interfered with the data signals just enough to throw errors even though everything still worked.
