I loved my sportster s until I became disabled last October. I actually had the MT09 at the same time. I had to sell both because of my condition. Only thing I didn’t like about the sportster s is the rear section. It was always dirty from riding. Not a lot there to protect your clothes/ jacket. Always got the back of my jacket dirty and road grime on the fender. My MT09 couldn’t keep up with the sportster s. My poor brother-n-law tried and so did my son. My son has a 2021 Kawasaki 636 and light to light I would smoke him depending on the distance. The MT09 and the sportster s are both excellent bikes. Can’t go wrong with getting one or the other. Ride safe everyone.

Pretty tough to compare when the sportster is over 350 cc's bigger and over $3000 more. Obviously the MT is a way better value. Even the MT-10 has more power and a smaller engine than the sportster s.
@SLBPerformance2 жыл бұрын
The Sportster S is claiming nearly 30 more ft/lbs of torque so straight line pull absolutely. The cornering prowess of the Sportster is what I'd like to see. The large front tire and low peg height would be curious to see what it's capable of in more aggressive riding.
@BlockheadMoto2 жыл бұрын
Doesn’t have near the lean angle and flickability as the MT09, but actually maneuvers very well as per the profile of the front tire (conical shape vs traditional.) MT09 would still win in the twisties though I think! 😁
@cisa16222 жыл бұрын
From your test I think the start-up and go HD sportsters S will lead . Maybe the traction is the key here. If MT09 is engineered to put all that power at start up and go with such low weight and smaller wheel base it will be no easy to control ( if you seen some sport car vs super sport bikes- sports bike struggle to keep the front end down at start up and go). The sportster S with longer wheel base and heavier stance( plus powerful torque engine) will lead at the start. But good to see sportster S fast. Can you test with MT10. Can you test on highway straight line . I always preferred heavier Harley-Davidson. I tried the MT09 and felt it so light to be uncomfortable( felt like a gravel on the road will be catastrophic for the rider).

@@BlockheadMoto look up kodlins 1 inch lift for the sportster s. It’s not a massive difference but defiantly better lean angle

In light to light “dick races” the Sportster S will come out ahead of some sport bikes with its high torque and light weight. The Sportster S follows the platform of the V-Rod, and it’s nothing new anymore for Harley to step just a little bit out of their normal realm sometimes. They bolt a kick-butt, liquid cooled engine on to what amounts to the rest of the bike being a stylish but mediocre package and toss a $15,500.00 price tag on it. Professionally ridden at a strip, the Sportster S and MT-09 will run about the same times in the quarter mile. But throw a few curves in the road in real world riding, and the performance shortcomings of the Sportster S will become insurmountable by comparison. The MT-09 costs $6000.00 less than a Sportster S, so it's not hard to logically deduct what you're paying more for with Harley- Style and a name.

Great video footage, audio, and review of the bikes! Both of you did a great job of talking through the pros and cons of the bikes as well as showing us great riding footage. I do have to say we have to keep in mind that the MT-09 is a lighter bike and bigger riders will not get the same performance out of the lightweight naked bikes as they would a heavy V-twin Harley Davidson. I'm 5'7" and roughly 155 lbs with gear on, on my 2015 FZ-09 there's never been a bike or vehicle that has pulled on me. I do have some upgrades on my bike but I have not flashed my ECU so my top speed is limited. I know from experience some heavier riders don't get the same performance out of the bike and they also bring up needing brake and suspension upgrades. I have zero complaints and all smiles from my bike!!!

fun fact, Dual disc's vs single disk front does NOT affect the bikes stopping power, under normal conditions. The only benefit dual disks has is heat dispersion and avoiding brake fade under regular and heavy braking, like on a track. Having 2 disks vs one does NOT increase the stopping power, because that is ultimateley limited by the traction the front tyre has. If the MT feels like it has better brakes, its because it has a better caliper and MC, and a larger rotor, Not because its dual disk. The only factors that affect the bikes stopping power is the size of the rotor, the size of the caliper and how many pistons it has, and the traction of the front tyre.
@tg8150 Жыл бұрын
But adding all of that on the other side doesn’t increase stopping power. Yeah, you’re right. That’s why all GP bikes only have one functioning front brake rotor up front. The other one’s just there for added weight and appearance. You’re such a smart dude!🤣

I did my oil change this weekend in my sportster 883 and everything went smooth. I started my bike up and was running fine, All of a sudden the oil cap shot out and some of the oil to. Maybe I over filled it? Is that even possible?

I rode this bike behind a livewire motorcycle and every time they were on throttle I was right behind them the sportster s is the real deal!
For the money , I'd rather have a Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki or Yamaha motorcycle. 15,999$ for a Harley Davidson Sportster. That's way too much for a Sportster, and the motor looks like it came from a japanese bike. But yamaha has helped design Harley engines for at least 10-15 years. For 3-4k more you could buy a Kawasaki vaquero.

the difference doesnt make any sense. On paper the Harley only has 4HP more, It also weighs significantly more. It must come all down to torque, the harley has 34 more Nm and also reaches it at 6k rpm as apposed to 10k, but i was not expecting it to zoom past the MT-09 which had a early start as if it was sitting still.

Absolutely. I thought the same thing myself. The Yamaha has a better power to weight ratio. This is just new bike hype.

Two Sundays ago I took my Sportster S to the drag strip and ran a best of 10.93@119mph and then I turned around and ran an 11.1@122mph. Bone stock. It's not your daddies Harley that's for sure.

For Harleys new ST lineup they should make a 1800 revmax.
