My carpet in lounge and tiles on kitchen floor are on concrete do i need to cut a channel for first course or just start on existing level concrete floor? And wall ties are they every 2nd course? Thanks!
@SamDaviesBuilder6 ай бұрын
Yea I’d just go off existing concrete. And wall ties are every 2 courses but no harm in going every course

What did you do with the drilling machine and insert in the hole?
@SamDaviesBuilder2 жыл бұрын
They are screw in wall ties. They are shaped like a question mark and you screw them in to help the wall tie in to the other wall

Can I lay mortar then blocks on the wood flooring?
@SamDaviesBuilder3 жыл бұрын
Definitely not, you’d have to cut the flooring away where you’re laying

Do u need planning permission for this work just curious
@SamDaviesBuilder23 күн бұрын
I’ve never blocked an internal doorway up that needed planning permission to do so. Only case it might apply if you blocked a fire escape maybe?

Hi . I've also had a internal doorway and window filled in 3 days ago. Because of all the rain we've had over the past week the blocks are still wet. There slowly drying out. Would you use fans, and or dehumidifier to dry them out or let it dry out naturally? Appreciate your comments. Thank you
@SamDaviesBuilder9 ай бұрын
Hi, I’d use a fan and a dehumidifier. It’s amazing how much water blocks can hold!
@ashestoashes31079 ай бұрын
@SamDaviesBuilder hi yes they got soaked out in the rain. Thought I'd ask because wasn't too sure about using a dehumidifier if took anything out of the mortar. Thank you 👍
@SamDaviesBuilder9 ай бұрын
@@ashestoashes3107 I’ve read about not putting a dehumidifier on straight away but the 3 days they’ve been down will be fine to have the dehumidifier on now 😃

Watching some of your other vids buddy. That mortar looks lovely to use. Did you use a plasticiser for it?
@SamDaviesBuilder Жыл бұрын
Yes the mortar we mix is nice to use but we are quite fussy with how we mix it and won’t use it unless it’s right. I usually use a concentrated plasticiser but you have to watch you don’t put too much in with this stuff has been concentrated it’s very easy to put too much in www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwiWxJSR9JT_AhVF7O0KHQVoDdMYABAMGgJkZw&ae=2&sig=AOD64_3-qnTY8tIAMqivutSN--JbbXJZ8g&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjRy4-R9JT_AhWPaMAKHf_aCa8Qwg8oAHoECAcQHw&adurl=

@@SamDaviesBuilder thanks as always buddy. I’ve saved that link. Btw I need to do this job in my house eventually. For some reason it has two openings to the kitchen. One in the living room is getting sealed up, and turned into a place to hang coats haha.

@@SamDaviesBuilder me again buddy haha! This Opti Mix you linked to, is it good for patio slab beds? Also, would you ever use plasticiser in a concrete mix? Or is there no need?

I'd love to do that to a mates doorway while he's on holiday, block it up, plaster and paint it so he can't even tell where it was then hide a camera when he comes home

Hi there, great work. I need a bit of advice, can i lay the first course of blocks on top floor tiles and if yes should i put a damp stip first and then lay the block? Your advice shall be greatly appreciated buddy.
@SamDaviesBuilder10 ай бұрын
I’d always take the floor tiles up first ideally as if you ever need to take the tiles up next to the wall in the future then you won’t disturb the bed. You won’t need a DPC if it’s an internal wall you are blocking up. If it’s a doorway that leads ti outside then put a DPC down
@davidjonathanvillavicencio71103 жыл бұрын
how did you cut the blocks?
@SamDaviesBuilder3 жыл бұрын
I used a block splitter, check out this video to see it being used :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2iad2eupal5n8k

Hi mate I’m taking out my internal door not leading to outside, can I just take it out and lay a bed of mortar on my floor boards? my house all the walls up stairs are breeze block on top of my floor boards, this is down stairs but under the carpet is floor boards with probably just breeze block on floor boards? Really appreciate any help mate
@SamDaviesBuilderАй бұрын
I’d always block off a solid base but if you have that upstairs then I suppose it’s no different. You’d have to make sure it’s a lightweight block though and not a dense block. You could make a stud wall if it’s just on top of floorboards?
@Michael-wc1coАй бұрын
@@SamDaviesBuilder thanks mate, I was thinking that but someone said it will be hollow, what do you think? Would be less work as I’m getting the room plastered and wound have to bond it out before plastering
@SamDaviesBuilderАй бұрын
@@Michael-wc1co you could use the blue plasterboard (sound deadening) which might sound less hollow and fill the stud with insulation
@sbongisenimazeka86522 жыл бұрын
what is that reinforcement he drills on the wall
@SamDaviesBuilder2 жыл бұрын
That’s a wall starter tie or furfix as it’s sometimes called, you just clip onto it each time you need to tie the block in
@bluefish91153 жыл бұрын
Did you use a damp proof course or lay cement straight onto the floor?
@SamDaviesBuilder3 жыл бұрын
I put a DPC down first
@bluefish91153 жыл бұрын
Do you have to use mortar for cement blocks or cement. Thanks I'm new to this and dont want what I am building to fall down.
@SamDaviesBuilder3 жыл бұрын
@@bluefish9115 A mortar mix you want which is cement and sand mixed together. I have a how to mix mortar video on my channel if you’d like to check it out
