This is one of the best quilting tools I've ever purchased. Couple it with a rotating mat and HSTs are a breeze.

I saw your ruler's on tutorial videos by Jennie Doan at Missouri Star Quilt Company. She didn't show us how you can use the ruler to turn the block. I LOVE THAT!!! So glad I looked you up.

Just bought the 6.5” ruler. I have a bunch of HSTs ready to trim, all with seams pressed open. I was disappointed that this does not “lock” onto open seams. 😢 it still works by using the diagonal line. I’ll have to make some more blocks and amend my pressing. Perhaps I could press to one side, trim, then press open. The pattern I’m working with calls for open seams and I really do like how the open seams lay flatter and it seems I’m less likely to lose my points. I still don’t know why they are sooo expensive, over $30 for a 6.5” piece of plastic seems pretty steep for me.

Would you please have a right hander demonstrate the quarter square triangle use? I keep getting three perfect corners but the fourth is off by almost 1/4".

Yes! Would love to see this demonstrated by a right handed person.

So how do you know you're not cutting too much off your first 2 cuts, before you turn HST around for last 2 cuts?
@Ravenwood716 жыл бұрын
Since no one responded to you and I have the same question, I'll share my observation from the video. First, it looks like the units are made a full inch larger than needed. Second, it looks like she gives a 1/2 inch over the desired finished size for the first cut and then squares up on the second. Since most of us will not end up with units this large, I would suggest that you follow basically the same formula for any squaring up. For me I tend to either be really close to the desired size or maybe a bit under. Assuming that most folks are a tad over, not as much as hers here, just place it to the desired size and trim. I could be wrong as I don't actually own one of these yet but if you are really close to your desired size, it seems to me to look like you would follow the standard rules of any ruler being used to square up. This one just keeps you from slipping and makes it super easy for trimming both sides without having to lift the ruler and re-position. Hope this helps!

The ruler shows you that you are over on the bottom as well. I saw it done at a show as I thought the same thing but it was easy
@meredithvanschoick34167 жыл бұрын
how does it work with the seam allowance pressed open?
@catharinawilliams18285 жыл бұрын
It needs that slight ridge to lock on. I tried it with an open seam but not the same

Blocks have to be quite a bit larger than what you want for the finished size.
@dustykeele4 жыл бұрын
@Elaine McAtee I've found there is no need for the blocks to be "quite a bit larger". Many times, I only need to trim two sides of the block. As long as you're lined up to the correct size and everything is straight, that's all you need to do. Don't get hung up on "having" to cut all four sides.

@elainemcatee43475 жыл бұрын
Not quite as easy as it looks, the ruler slides when you begin to cut. Just have to get the hang of it, cool ruler. The key to the ruler is to make your hst's quite a bit larger than what you need as a finished size. Mine were not large enough for the ruler to work like it does on a larger square.

The tutorial is great, however you cut with your left hand so we "righties" need to reverse the process!
