Loved the shot with 3 trains passing. PERFECT!!! BTW, no layout planning software gives the true impression of how much “real estate” a turntable and roundhouse need in O-Gauge, until you see it up close and in-person. A full-blown engine service facility in O-Gauge could easily be the size of some people’s entire layout. Crazy!!!!

Very true! I'm already thinking about a potential expansion of the roundhouse area. Depends on how this thing fits.

Hi JD! Just started watching you here on KZbin! Glad I did. I'm really enjoying how you're approaching your layout's progress. I'm also a fan of Rich's Black Diamonds RR as well, and your layout's track plan seems to follow his. So, if you'll pardon the pun, I think you're on the right track. Since I don't do Instagram, is there another medium(email) by which perhaps, I can speak with you? I saw something in one of your updates, that I need some clarity on. I think when and if we speak, I'll have a lot to offer you with regard to MTH. Thanks!
@JDStucks10 ай бұрын
Yes, my plan is very similar to Rich's. I often give him credit in my videos as I'm a huge fan of his layout. Well, old layout since its been torn down and he's starting over. My email is listed on my KZbin channel. That's the best way to reach me.

Is the 34" turntable long enough to handle your Big Boy? My MTH Premier Big Boy only just fits only a 40" turntable...
@JDStucks3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is big enough. I made sure to confirm before ordering. I've seen many people with 34" turntables fit the Big Boy. Remember, the Big boy has a plow and tender overhang. But only the wheels have to be on the platform for it to "fit"

Hey Jason! I installed the Millhouse 34 inch turntable on the Lehigh and Allegheny RR in 2018 and it’s a great product. You could spend a lifetime just modeling that area of the layout. Btw we were disappointed that it installed in about 25 minutes the first time and no quality time for father son arguments... 😊 feel free to let know your email address and I’ll send a photo or two.

I saw on your new shelf in one of your previous videos that you've got the NS Veterans unit and the original J 611. I wonder why you don't have the First Responders NS unit and the 20-3773-1 Spirit of Roanoke 611.
@JDStucks3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I wasn't in love with the First Responders NS unit scheme. And I didn't see a need to spend another $1,200 or so on another 611 just so I could have the "Spirit of Roanoke" written under the cab.

Do you ever run your lash-ups with one of the engines in the middle or at the back like is common in real life? Have you found that your MTH engines don’t all run the same speed even when set to the same scale MPH? I’ve found that my various MTH engines do not run the same speed even when set to the same scale MPH, and it’s not a weight issue because even with no load the engines aren’t consistent. That has now basically stopped me from running any lash ups because I burned out one of my MTH engines & I think it may have been from running it in a lash up where it was faster than other engines & thus was forced to pull not only the weight of the cars, but also be pulling the slower engines.
@JDStucks3 жыл бұрын
I almost never run mid engine power, mainly because I don't like modeling the current era. I'm not against DPUs but I just don't ever require them, even on my grades. And I don't have any problems with varying train speeds in a lash-up. However, two separate trains on the same track almost always results in one going slightly faster than the other. But it takes quite a few loops before an adjustment needs to be made.
@genethesurveyor3 жыл бұрын
I see a claim that the DCS unit will run my old Lionel engines I got in the 1950's as a child, right along with my new Lionel and MTH engines with the new blue tooth technology. From what I have read this seems unrealistic since the new systems use full voltage in the track and my old trains are strictly controlled by the voltage supplied to the track. Can I run all my trains at the same time with this DCS system, or do I have to segregate them by technology?
@JDStucks3 жыл бұрын
This is a lot for me to answer with confidence. I'm sure there is some kind of work around to use the DCS or Legacy remote to send power to the track. But that's about it.

Gluing a coupler closed??? Sacrilege I tell you😀 My OCD/ is in HIGH DEFINITION when it comes to couplers functioning properly Is the glue a stop gap action until you can replace the offending culprit, or will it remain a permanent fixture? When I have a misbehaving coupler, It immediately gets put on the work bench, out of service. This gives me the opportunity to replace it with a new truck-since I have yet to master reassembly of the trucks I killed replacing the coupler😁 Those god forsaken springs are the bane of my existence. Also, it gives me opportunity to add weight if needed-who am I kidding-I’ve yet to have a car that didn’t need weight to meet the standard. And I find serenity working on a car or engine, while one of my engines, idles and chatters in the vicinity-and if the wife ain’t around-smokes 🤪 Which I’m curious-and my self induced dementia may be kicking in-do you look at the KZbin videos of us lowly modelers who follow you?
