Why not use cheesecloth?

Hi there :) Cotton is the most effective material for this purpose. Beeswax has got tons of impurities and a cotton cloth will have better results than cheesecloth. You can try both and see a big difference.

I used paint straining material that I bought at Home Depot. They offer 1 and 5 gallon sizes. It works pretty good. I only filtered wax 2 times, and have a nice chunk of clean beeswax.

How do you clean the cloth again after much use? Or is it possible?

Hi Hannah! To clean the cloth well and reuse it, here's what we do: To get as much wax out of the cloth and decrease waste we repeat the filtering process. Scraping the cloth with a spoon to remove wax remains is also a good thing to do. Then we discard the residues and wash the cloth by hand, scrubbing with mild soap and warm water. We do not use detergents, as they can leave chemical residues on the cloth that may affect the quality and purity of the wax. Still, you can't use the same cloth for a very long time. After much use you should replace it for a new one.
