Blogger Wusatullah Khan on Secrets of Reporting from Pakistan

"There's freedom of expression in Pakistan but no guarantee can be given as to what may happen later," says Wusatullah Khan while sharing tips with budding journalists on how to report from Pakistan.
Laced with satire and humour, he says it all. One of Pakistan's senior journalists, Wusatullah Khan, has been practicing his art through various formats of multi-media reporting. His blogs for BBC Urdu Service - Maktoob-e-Pakistan & Baat Se Baat'- made him a star blogger overnight. Now, his columns are syndicated for millions of his followers. He writes a diary for BBC Hindi service as well.
He hosts a show 'Zara Hat Kay' on the Pakistani TV channel, Dawn News, along with Mubashir Zaidi and Zarrar Khuhro.

Let me share a secret with you. Wusat is a colleague of mine. Both of us worked with the BBC World Service in London. He was in the Urdu Service whereas I worked for the Hindi service. Wusat Hindi bade shauq se bolte hain. Hum logon ne unka naam Hindi mein Urdu ki ek izafat laga kar rakh diya tha 'Vistaar e Ishwar'!

Mr. Wusatullah Khan doesn't understand Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism. Hindu radicals are saints in comparison with Muslim radicals. Order of magnitude different. People discuss about Gujarat riots after 20 years and still blame Modi Despite him nowhere connected with it. His only crime was that he was the CM of Gujarat when this Riot happened. Like any other Hindu-Muslim riots it happened so fast that the administration had very minimal time to react. Also the reason for the riot was a train which carried most of the Kaar Sevaks (Hindu religious people) returning back from Ayodhya was stopped by Muslim fundamentalists and some of the coaches were locked and people inside it were burnt. Can we then say that Modi is a Muslim fundamentalist because he let this incident happen. Mr. Wusatullah Khan may not be aware that our judiciary (Which is much better than Pakistan kangaroo courts) has also dismissed all cases against Modi and given him a clean chit even when he was not a PM. These statements that India is being radicalised is blown really out of proportion. There is no place for radicals in Hindu dharma. Definitely not like Islam. Hinduism is not only tolerant but very inclusive religion. India is the only place where no religion was ostracized. We were the only place which provided asylum to all persecuted minorities like Jews/ Pareses and even relatives of the founder of Islam in the 7th century who were being persecuted in Saudi Arabia. We have lived harmoniously 1000s of years in India and will live harmoniously another 1000 years or more. Radicalism if it exists in India is at best a fringe element and nothing more. Modi got reelected because of his welfare schemes reaching even the smallest of the small villages in India and there was NO Credible alternative to him. If there is a better alternative in future we will elect him or her instead of Modi. India is a vibrant democracy unlike the democracy which Mr. Wusatullah Khan is used to and is aware of. Both these anchors are acting like a frog in the pond and not analyzing the situation with a broader perspective and history of India.

The problem with most people is that they already have narrative on every subject. Indians love when a Pakistani intellectual exposes his/her country's policies such as on violation of human rights (Read; Balochistan). Pakistanis adore Indian liberals when they criticise Delhi and its record on Kashmir and treatment of minorities. Fundamentalists on both sides want their journalists and intellectuals to toe the government line. The moment they question the govt, nationalists get rattled. How dare! They shout. And charges of 'anti national' etc follow.

That was such an informative and such a useful interview. I feel everyone who is protesting or organizing or reporting against their governments has so much to learn from this interview. Although it may seem as if Wasatullah Khan was being a coward when he shared how he stayed low when the times were tough but that is very important sometimes as was explained by Wasatullah himself. Also loved his views on democracy and how easily it can be turned into a dictatorship. These problems are faced by lots of people around the world and its always great to learn from each other.

I think this anchor, shows how victimize he became after 2014 by the government, and trying to get views on KZbin. he abosulety have his own view and opinion. by like Pakistan, no one putting journalist in jail or journalist disappearing in India. cases filled on journalist exist for long time, since congress era, but since he had to acquire more views he become victim.

We need soft border (like the one suggested, promoted by Ex PM Manmohan Singh) and friendly people. Once there is peace (like in Europen Union Countries), countries are independent but they don't have friction. people are happy when peace is there. its good for economic development too. So LOC = international border = soft border and friendly relations between the two countries is the best way to go.
