And out of all of them, one group "won" and became mainstream Christianity, regardless of whether it was based on Jesus AS's true teachings or not. And then this version of mainstream Christianity changed and created its own off-shoots.

Dead Sea scrolls were only fragmented manuscripts preserved in those jars in that cave. The nation Israel is credited with preserving the OT scrolls by copying them under the strictest rules or standards. Dead sea scrolls perhaps were individual owned copies. But the most important thing with those Dead Sea scrolls, they were accurate copies of the preserved copies from the originals. Dead Sea scrolls therefore served as strong evidence of the preservation of copies from the originals.
@kashkash92443 ай бұрын
Dead Sea scroll doesn't match the bible we have today. This what Bart Ehrman is saying, there is a contradiction. There are things in today bible that are not in Dead Sea scroll. There are things in Dead Sea scroll that are not in today's bible. If Dead Sea scrolls are the oldest then people have to abandon today's bible and adapt Dead Sea scrolls. A decision Church Father refuse they only accept what aligns with their view. Ex: Gospel of Thomas discarded, Book of Enoch discarded. Are they not inspired word? Who decide it Men?
@claromagallanes28773 ай бұрын
@@kashkash9244 Folks never understood how the OT manuscripts were preserved. The nation Israel was in charge of preserving the OT manuscripts by copying them under the strictest rules or standards. The evidence for it is the Greek translation (sometime in 250 BC during Ptolemy's reign) of the OT known as the Septuagint. Therefore, there was a complete copy of the Manuscripts both Hebrew and Greek before the Qumran scrolls were discovered. It is just absurd those Qumran scrolls which were not under the keeping of Israel would serve as the standard manuscripts. It is apparent they were fragmented scrolls individually owned or kept generally by Israel, but were kept in the caves due to wars for preservation if in case. One should take not there was not only one copy made for the manuscripts keeping in danger of its preservation. The scribes worked full time copying every day the Manuscripts.

@@kashkash9244A contradiction would be, stating a fact occurred, vs. stating the same fact did not occur. A contradiction is not a change in chapter order or different phraseology to convey the exact same message. Nor is a contradiction differences in punctuation and spelling, of which is the majority of textual changes throughout the Bible. Here is better list of Dead Sea Scrolls, as kept and added to, by the Qumran community: Great Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa): Contains the entire Book of Isaiah. Second Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa): Another copy of portions of Isaiah. Habakkuk Commentary (1QpHab): A pesher (commentary) on the Book of Habakkuk. Genesis Apocryphon (1QapGen): An expanded narrative of parts of Genesis. Sectarian Texts Community Rule (1QS): Describes the rules and beliefs of the Qumran community. War Scroll (1QM): Details an apocalyptic battle between the Sons of Light and the Sons of Darkness. Thanksgiving Hymns (1QH): A collection of hymns and prayers, Apocryphal and Pseudepigraphal Texts Book of Tobit: A narrative about Tobit’s piety and adventures. Wisdom of Ben Sira (Sirach): A collection of ethical teachings. Epistle of Jeremiah: A letter attributed to the prophet Jeremiah. Other Notable Manuscripts: Temple Scroll: Describes an idealized temple and its regulations. Copper Scroll: Lists hidden treasures. Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice: Liturgical texts for Sabbath worship. Of course, it doesn't perfectly match the accepted masoretic text, it has too many biased and unnecessary inclusions.

@@claromagallanes2877Exactly. Even Bartthe atheist knows that. Also, the scribes worked off a Master manuscript that upon creation was rigorously examined under complex copying requirements before approval and singley used until it wore down necessitating another laborious creation of another Master. Multiple Masters were made and transferred to heads of synagogues and churches for use. The Scribes outside of Jerusalem could not control the subsequent normal distributed copies from the Master made outside their region of authority. Regardless, everyone involved in copying had a very high and solemn view of the work they were engaged in ( it was a professional job) because it was after all God's word, and nobody wanted to be responsible for altering it. Edit: Amazing that we have so much textual evidence, when Christianity was a forbidden sect by both the Jewish and Romans for a couple hundred years and every scripture or Bible found in Christians possesion were destroyed.

I found Bart's videos a couple of years ago. Bart became my favorite author when I studied, over twenty years. The Snake and the Worm Jesus was to be lifted up like the serpent. There are two appearances, within the same generation - the sacrifice followed by the resurrection. YHWH judged the gods - who neither know nor understand, wandering about in darkness - and became the snake - thus fulfilling the law. Adam, the Christ, wields the fiery sword, judges the earth, and becomes a worm - thus fulfilling the law. (Are they) unjust, humanly speaking, to inflict his wrath? Of course not! For how else (are they) to judge… ? And why not say-- as we are accused and as some claim we say-- that we should do evil that good may come of it? Their penalty is what they deserve. (Rom 3:5-8 NABO) The gods will be measured against the judgment (sacrifice) by Adam. YHWH is without measure.

How? Because the Roman's crucified him? Why do humans need redeeming from a god that created them needing redemption? That's like a husband hitting his wife and telling her it's because he loves her... So actually she should be grateful he loves her so much.
@tomnguyen85463 ай бұрын
God created humans with free will. In order for anyone to truly love, they have to be given the choice. Otherwise it's forced and no better than a robot. If and when we choose to love, we know it's true because we didn't have to choose it. We could've freely chosen the opposite. Unfortunately we chose evil and sin which warrants God to have a Savior who redeems us. God could've just said, Well this creation failed me so let's start off with a new clean slate but because His love is infinite and unending and is faithful, He gave us grace and wanted to save us rather than give up on us.

What if heretics ARE malicious? Like, why would you try to falsify God's teachings, except for bad intentions? I mean, could Jesus Christ be any clearer that there would be false teachings. (With which I do not want to say that the Nicene creed and the surviving big churches are the ones that necessarily represent the correct teachings - in fact, I would deny that.)
@jesan7333 ай бұрын
Problem is that everybody are heretics, because there's no true faith. It's all made up. Of course those who deliberately change or add to the previously made-up body of belief are doing so for reasons, but they don't have to be malicious, although they're usually selfish in some sense.

So gospel writers were basically converted christans but belonged to Jewish sect ? According to you , just asking I'm a Muslim btw
@youtubeaccount32303 ай бұрын
@@kashmalabangash6134so they were this Jewish sect, they believed Baptism was a way of initiation, they followed a guy 150 years before Jesus known as the teacher of righteousness, who had 12 men in his counsel one of them betrayed him, they used phrases like sons of light sons of darkness, they said things like this generation shall not pass till so and so is fufilled, but the time u get to Jesus these Essenes 150 years ago obviously would have children and grandchildren who started delving into Greek works and learning the language etc, they believe the temple was in the body they hated the Pharisees and referred to them as brute vipers, u find these things in the Gospels a lot, and we don't hear about them after the destruction of the temple, Jospehus mentions them but we didn't know much about them, they were a mystic apocalyptic movement similar to Paul and Mark

Wow Bart, talk about overstatement! I really don't understand why Bart devotes his life to something he doesn't believe. What strikes me are all the people who think this stuff is new or revelatory. Any Bible college or any study for that matter will expose you to these things. We know about the Gnostics etc., we also know that they do not represent the orthodox faith and here I side with my Greek orthodox brothers and sisters.

Starting point is this; the Gospel narratives of Jesus’ doctrine and ministry are a dramatized fictional representation. Through examining internal evidence this is obviously so. It can be seen that the disciples are fictional characters drawn as foils to the genius of their master Jesus. They are constantly being portrayed as uncomprehending. They try but they get it wrong with total consistency. The actual authors who were intimate with Jesus seem to enjoy making them look dumb and blind. Jesus of course gives them sight and restores their hearing. But they could not be the authors as they have been portrayed. Throughout there is impressed upon us the presence and agency of the supernatural. There are no physically distinct features of any of the characters with the exception of the diminutive Zachaeus. None. But this is by design and is a feature of Biblical characters. You may pass any of these characters on the street and never know it. The primal authors had to be in direct contact with Jesus to get it right as regards his doctrine and personal example. There are additions by later copyists that contradict the original intent of the authors. They can be recognized by this and should be thrown out as alien accretions to the Gospel and contradict once again the intent of the authors.

Sure of course having early texts doesn't mean they are 'right'. This is no revelation Bart. But it does show that these texts have been preserved very well over a very long time. The fact of course is that the DSS are Jewish religious texts that were in use by a Jewish faction.

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Weird how their only defense of the book of Isaiah was speculation even though the scrolls they found are 99% accurate to what we have today. Do not be deceived! The enemy is a LIE!! PRAISE JESUS! Glory to GOD!

One does not see any prophet hood established until Gilgamesh but springing up of organized religious institutionalized government is evident from Gilgamesh period which is the first point in human history, declaring of the ruler to be the representative of forces of nature was the common practice so that people could be controlled and their faith could be established in the house of rulers. As generally people feared the forces of nature.

The epic is a fictional poem containing numerous mythological elements, such as gods, supernatural beings, and fantastical adventures, besides s3x between the gods. The story is structured as an epic poem, is not historical, but with a focus on themes like friendship, the quest for immortality, and the human condition. It is not the establishment of priesthood or a religious document outlining observances. Trusting the Epic of Gilgamesh to be any more authoritative for religious purposes than the Lord of the Rings, is to believe that The DaVinci Code is an interpretive key to the Jewish scriptures.

No, it is not surprising that there were competing points of view swirling around in the first century church because these are all mentioned and vigorously refuted in the first century New Testament. Point is that we know very well the first century context, the people, places, and events of the first century from the first century. Contrast this to the shadowy Quran - absolutely no who what when where why. Just incomprehensible random polemic with no context, but certainly no clear story about Muhammad that was clumsily foisted upon it centuries later.
@peterhwang3523 ай бұрын
What is important is that we can have confidence that we know the Old Testament in Jesus' day, which he affirmed. Of course we knew the Dead Sea scrolls would affirm that because the Old Testament was extensively quoted and used to prove that Jesus was indeed the Messiah, that the Messiah had to first be rejected and killed by his own people, but that he would be resurrected and glorified and will return to judge and rule the world forever. Too bad you can't go back and change what God has preserved.
