Same mistake similar to labeling Hammurabi as the first lawgiver only because his cylinder of laws is the one we found intact. Regarding translating simple language with two words into more complex language using one word, here is an example from English when grappling with a new invention. We started with "horseless carriage" and that became "car" over time. English today is much more complex that it was even 100 years ago because we have so many more concepts to express now. Yet, we often do so more succinctly.

If every word of the Bible is true why are there so many contradictions within it? Which creation is true? How did the story of the crucifixion and Resurrection turn out because there's four different versions. This is the inspired word of God you would think there would be a definitive single story. So God is definitely into slavery. If you've ever read your Bible you would know that. You would also know that Jesus predicted that the coming of the Kingdom he spoke of was then. As if this is happening very very soon in people of his time expected that. And we have older versions of the Bible where there's a female God as well so what about that? The reversions of those texts out there that are more complete than the versions we have today because parts were taken out. By the way I hope you're Jewish because Jesus was and the Bible and the God were for his people. There were many other gods around at the time everybody had theirs. What we call God today or Yahweh in the past wasn't even a major player back then. @@fjbfjb2618

1:26:26 - Sumerian is an Language Isolate. It's a language with no known roots or links to other languages. You can link to Akkadian which is essentially the root language of the most early Semitic languages, like Hebrew or Arabic languages. Sumerian predates Akkadian and appears to been developed mainly in sumer. Akkadian potentially is believed to maybe have been influenced by other nomadic people pre-Akkadian civilization. The only commonality between the two is that they were both written on clay tablets with cune (but so was everything from that time). There are other fully isolated languages that existed at this time like the Elamites, that basically existed only in one city-state but ended up with all the lands around them adopting the later Akkadian language outside that city-state.

Greek philosophy is so different from the concepts of the Hebrew religion that Christians had to invent the Trinity based on Plato's 3 parts to the soul in order to reconcile Jewish thought for a Greek audience. There were also sorts of wrong translations (both accidental and purposeful) in the English translations of the texts and additions by the scribes. For instance, there are different descriptions of the 10 Commandments between the Torah and the Bible. For instance, one commandment isn't "Thou shall not kill," but instead, "Thou shall not murder." The distinction is important when talking about war, self-defense, capital punishment and abortion. A recent (1940s) purposeful translation error talks about homosexuals which wasn't the translation before that. There was also additions. Job never really got his happy ending in earlier script and Mary fled the tomb of Jesus never to be mentioned again in earlier script.

Still- whether God even exists or not, the Bible has some really really REALLY great pragmatic practical life advice for the here and now that will keep you out of trouble IN LIFE peppered throughout it's pages... Teachings that make civilization possible in the first place Like don't steal, etc Especially in Proverbs And Jesus' ideas of turning the other cheek and his teachings on forgiveness practically speaking bought humanity a lot of peace that otherwise would have never been... Oh, and there is some good overall philosophy in there as well I tell people that even if God does not exist, all our lives collectively right here and now on Earth will be a lot better quality and classier overall if we acted as if God did exist Even if God does not exist I wish for God to exist, what an empty sad dead and soulless the universe is without the magic of soul and God, and the prospect of an afterlife or spiritual evolution. I don't want to life in a dead universe made only of inanimate dead atoms bouncing around, how uninspired and boring Anyways consciousness is all the evidence I need for the supernatural, consciousness is not material itself, and existed before the existence of man, therefore it's an eternal property of the universe independent of man

My research leads me to believe the Dead Sea scrolls are copies , and new works, saved from the library of Alexandria. The scholars fled from Alexandria 900KM to the East with scrolls, after Caesar burnt the library in 48BC. And eventually settled near the Qumran caves where they continued their work and stored the text in the caves in about 2BC.
@BunyonandBabe2Ай бұрын
Your research is incomplete, perhaps biased? Caesar only partially and accidentally destroyed the Library of Alexandria. The “daughter library,”maintained by Pythagorean astronomer and mathematician Hypatia, was deliberately obliterated near the end of the fourth century and Hypatia was brutally killed by Christian mobs. These acts were ordered as punishment for “heresy” by Theophilus, the Bishop of the region, sanctioned by the tyrannical Emperor Theodosius, creator of the abominable Council of Nicaea.

So an hour in we finally get Kipp's reasons for not believing. Having read the Bible, he should know that everything he "learned " as an "expert " that "contradicts" the Bible IS IN the Bible. 1. Abraham came from Ur and moved to Canaan. He came from pagans 2. The Hebrews believed in other God's. They worshipped Baal, Molech, etc. Hence the Prophets being sent by God to rebuke them. 3. The extra Biblical Texts confirm much of the Bible, but from another's perspective. The demons' perspective. I would have liked to see Dr. Heiser correct this guy.
@maximmaximov371319 күн бұрын
Thats exactly what I thought. The Bible constantly talks about the prophets fight with idol warship. And constantly warns against it. So to say that he thought that most people back then we're monotheistic boggles belief. Its obvious from the biblical text that most were not. And that's the unique aspect of the biblical narrative.

I was agnostic until started reading anonymous, non-religious near-death experiences. Taking the thousands of them I've read so far in the conglomerate, it seems there is definitely a God or Universal Source.

Irvine Finkel at the British museum studies Sumerian cuneiform texts. In these texts has been found, not only the earliest written story of the great flood and Noah, but the precise instructions of how to build the Ark. The BBC did a documentary of them making a scale replica of the Ark. The Dead Sea scrolls are much younger than these clay tablets.

It's almost as if the Ark story was co-opted from a "heathen" religion. The store is universal amonng many older civilizations and cultures.

All these Christians in the comments taking a girthy dose of copium make me laugh. How is it that crazy to think that uneducated dirt farmers made stuff up? I mean, the occurances of every paranormal thing mentioned in the Bible seemed to really drop off at the advent of the camera. No one walked on water or talked to a burning bush. Unless they were eating those tasty blue mushrooms.

You can't say you weren't warned, that's why we care. You don't think that a God strong enough to create the universe could outsmart you to test you? Create all these different conflicting things then it turns out to be true despite that? Well, people like me who were shown miracles to prove a point want to tell you, don't be so sure. At least don't laugh and tell the universe, "haha, I'm smarter than you!" It will answer back.

No chapters? Come on man. I just want to listen to 8% of this podcast. The other 92% is just fat.

So they're just guessing on dating scrolls, particularly trying to associate them with older texts!? I wish scholars would just say "I/We don't know!"

That's what Biblical "scholars" do. They have a bias towards propping up their religious ideology.

That's what biblical scholars do, they historisize a fable.
