I never noticed how great the drummer was in this song! He kills it!
@JAIstarkillerkid5 күн бұрын
Funny, this has been one of (possibly even THE) of my favorite BLONDIE songs for decades and I never really noticed the drumming until this video either... it's the best element of the song for me now.

Clem Burke is a fantastic drummer. He's best known for his time with Blondie, but he's also Drummed for Pete Townsend, Bob Dylan, the Eurythmics, the Ramones, and quite a few other heavy hitters. The guy's elite.
@GodLovesComics6 күн бұрын
Probably Blondie at their absolute best. Clem Burke's drums are phenomenal throughout (clearly more a rock drummer than a disco daddy) and Debbie Harry looks and sounds transcendently beautiful here.

Great. And, 45 years on, and still performing this banger.

Clem Burke on the drums just kills it on this record. Other Blondie tracks - Rip Her to Shreds, One Way or Another, Hanging on the Telephone, Denis, Picture This, Union City Blue.

Debbie and guitarist Chris Stein met at a club called Max's Kansas City in NYC, where they were introduced to Andy Warhol's inner circle. Debbie and Chris first performed together in a band called the Stillettos, which emerged from the Max's/ Warhol scene. The pair (by then a couple) left the Stillettos to form Blondie in 1974. Together with the Ramones, Talking Heads and Patti Smith, Blondie rose to fame at CBGB, the legendary punk bar on the Bowery in lower Manhattan. Believe it or not, Debbie is now 79. Blondie performed at both Coachella and Glastonbury in 2023. Merry Christmas, Biss! 🎄

Blondie does great songs in many different genres: "One Way or Another" (Rock); "Heart of Glass" (Disco); "The Tide is High" (Reggae); "Rapture" (HipHop)
@dunringill17476 күн бұрын
Yes, this was recorded but played over a live show. Blondie has a great music catalogue to explore. They were pioneers that mixed a variety of genres including new wave, punk, rock, pop rock, disco, & funk. Here is a very short list of some more song recommendations: "One Way or Another" "The Hardest Part" "Call Me" "Atomic" "The Tide Is High" "Rapture" "Union City Blue" "Die Young, Stay Pretty" "Detroit 442" "Hanging on the Telephone" "11:59" "Fade Away and Radiate"

Yes, you are correct, this is the studio recorded track.

There is what I think is a pretty amazing live version of this from 1979 out there. It feels like that performance leans more punk rock than the mainstream glossy sort of image that was apparently pushed on them.

This song is from the band's early days, in the second half of the 70's (if I'm not mistaken). The influence of Punk Rock (which was booming at the time) is present, with a simpler, more direct and straightforward sound. Speaking of Punk Rock, I'm eagerly awaiting the day when we'll have reactions on your channel, from bands like "The Ramones" (whose members were friends with the members of "Blondie"), "The Clash" and "Sex Pistols"! After all, pop culture has never been the same since the "Punk Movement"!!! Thank you for your musical reactions, I'm sure they make a lot of people's day 😎

As a teenage boy at the height of Blondie's (Debbie Harry) fame we all considered the most ideal and perfect women - Sunday Girl was always a favourite - "cold as ice cream but still as sweet". We missed her when her then boyfriend 1983, Chris Stein was diagnosed with the life-threatening illness pemphigus, and Harry cared for him and Blondie disappeared from our radar. She did restart a solo career but it never really made it in the same way. Watch more!

I don't know about this video specifically, but I used to work on music videos, and you're probably right. Usually in music videos they are performing along side the studio version, or whatever version is chosen for the video, that is being played on set as they film. They usually are still actually performing, but they're just not recording any sound on what they're performing. They do this because if they were to just record them performing live, which you can do, but that's basically a different kind of thing, which is also going to be more complicated to shoot and record sound for, and if you're shooting multiple takes, every time they perform, the timing will probably be different each time, which will make synching up the video and sound, and editing it together, very difficult. So, if they're performing while following a consistent track every time, it makes it easier, and it's also easier to not have to worry about recording good clean sound at the same time you have a film crew working to shoot it, and you also get to use the preproduced finished product that you've already spent a lot of time and money on making, and that is the actual product that you're trying to market and sell. "One Way Or Another", "Call Me", and "Rapture" are the other big hit songs of theirs from back in the day, and in the late 90s, after no one had heard from them in forever, they reappeared with a song called "Maria", which is a banger!
