Still, plant synchron is considered a tier 3 deck yet won edison shonen championship because A) Edison is fairly balanced overall as a format (That's why it's still popular) so the deck was still very capable of winning tournaments, and B) Jeff Johnes was an amazing player in a format where the piloting mattered more than the deck used.

@@N12015 It's considered tier 3 now (in hindsight) at the time it was considered tier 1. Most of the decks doing well in modern edison play didn't even exist in historic edison. Even the side deck choice of fossil dyna in modern wasn't something viable then because of dyna being so expensive.

As someone who plays a lot of Edison, I'm surprised that one of the most "fair" decks of all of YuGiOh was in this tourney. QDDandy wasn't even the best deck of the time, especially looking back retroactively.

Same here. Almost everyone in edison I know says that BLACKWING was/is the best deck of the format due to beating Catastor, having an actual level 7 synchro, good wallbreaking due to Kalut and Gale, easy D.A.D. usage and great Swarming and searching capabilities for the time, with the weakness of drying out of resources easily without Whirlwind.

plasma is why I picked bloo-d. when that thing hit the field back in the day, if your opponent didn’t misplay, you needed your mirror force/sakaretsu or else it was over.

Wow, that escalated quickly in game one holy hell. BlooD was able to explode out of nowhere. Tough matchup for a slower, grindy deck like Quickdraw which cannot OTK or really set up much disruption.

Why did so many people vote for Quickdraw again? Have they not seen Bloo-D in previous CBCs? The deck is just all turbo no brakes. Quickdraw Dandy is slow and methodical and honestly doesn't do too much that would be considered unfair. It was going to have a hard time in this matchup because it didn't really play a ton of floodgates and Bloo-D could pretty much out everything it had in store for it. Anyway, I'm picking XYZ Infernity 3-1 for the next one. Three Soul Charge and Archfiend loops are just too much for Chaos Dragons.

What I've noticed in this CBC so far is that when it comes to the polls, the newer decks usually get the most votes, but that the older ones won majority of the matches. Wich is interesting to say the least.

At first I thought Plasma might not be great in older formats because of the prevalence of Traps, but then I remembered Jinzo was actually useful back then because of that, Royal Decree in side also didn't hurt. Hoo boy. Also Malicious at 3 is hilarious, it might unironically be better at 2 nowadays for consistency but it's also easier than ever to set the spare back in deck so I can understand the caution.

Well we had airblade turbo but instead of plasma we had two Diamond dudes plasma wasn’t released yet, but yeah stratos and dimension fusion was limited to one after a week so we got Diamond dude turbo afterwards. Plasma didn’t come out for sometime

The tools available to put 3 monsters on field and find Plasma are better, AND, crucially, as in this is the most important part, Plasma is skill drain, while Reliquished is damn near a vanilla after it has used its effect. It is worth breaking your back to drop Plasma, it's not worth lifting a finger to drop Relinquished.

According to the ruling, it goes like this: 1. Destiny HERO Plasma activates its effect to equip a monster from your opponent. 2. Your opponent chains something that either puts Plasma face down or removed from the field. At that point, the effect of Plasma still resolves, but... since the target for the equip has disappeared (you cannot equip monsters or Equip Spell Cards on face-down monsters), the equipped card fizzles down and goes to the graveyard.

@@Lithium2300 Actually, the ruling for GOAT format goes like this: "If a monster like Relinquished or Thousand-Eyes Restrict tries to equip an opponent's monster to itself, and an effect is Chained that causes Relinquished/Thousand-Eyes Restrict to be removed from the field or flipped face-down, the opponent keeps their monster (it is not sent to the graveyard). On the contrary, in current format Yu-Gi-Oh!, the monster would in fact be sent to the Graveyard."
