Correction: It is a spit in the FACE of Silent Hill fans. They not only deliberately stole massive elements, story beats, themes and ideas from Silent Hill, BUT THEY PATENTED SOME OF THEM SO THAT OTHER COMPANIES CAN'T USE THEM. Such as the idea of an "other world". You know, that thing Silent Hill games are notoriously well known for? Bloober Team fucking put a copy right on that and gleefully told everyone "Other companies won't be able to use these ideas". And the thing is, their ENTIRE library of games is LITERALLY based around copy pasting ideas from other companies. Everything before Layers of Fear was a copy paste of something else. Layers of Fear was a copy paste of P.T. Observer is JUST Bladerunner. And The Medium? Fucking hell. I don't believe in divinity, but I am praying to god right now that this all does just turn out to be rumors. It would be like the directors of those cheap, shitty Disney movie knockoffs getting the actual rights to the movies they are plagiarising.

Bloober just has nothing unique to their style. They consistently drop the ball on depictions of mental illness or a good story in general.

I can also understand hesitation about Bloober team trying to create a new Silent Hill game based on where they currently seem to be experience-wise. This will end up being the first time they've attempted a game with combat, and I can't imagine that going too well..... Having seen how they've treated the in-game third-person perspective and their level of animation regarding human faces and forms in cut scenes, they still seem a bit amateur in those categories... Yeeeeah....... I could see this team going hardcore edgy with the storyline and then also providing very clunky gameplay topped with faulty and buggy combat... and also some not great cut scenes in terms of animation... This is a team that seems like it still has a lot more maturing to do before it can tackle a behemoth franchise like Silent Hill...

Man, the Medium was rough; I watched SuperGreatFriend's playthrough and at one point, he organically solved one of the puzzles, then went back to solve it, only to get no response because he hadn't interacted with each clue, in order, so that the protagonist could solve the puzzle out before they could progress. Hey there, great debate (shoot me), but as native Pole I feel I need to add some some context to what have you said. The "religious-right" part about us is half-correct. While it holds true for older generations of polish citizens, most of younger demographics is unbelieving. Church has been been holding strong position here since the end of World War II, expecially after communists took over, but due to some recent political and cultural events its position of power is weakening and its decline is currently biggest in Europe. Blooper Team, which consist of younger people, have even put some anty-religious and anty-government (current government in Poland proclaims to be very religious) messages in Medium. Also there is no "glorification" of mental illness in our culture. TL;DR - It's not a cultural thing, it's just writers being hacks.

I'm only a few mins in, but really hope this isn't true. I've been wildly disappointed by Bloober Team. PT was an incredible masterpiece and Silent Hills was going to be created by true masters of their crafts. To give it to Bloober Team would be such a waste. They make the most tepid, mediocre horror ever. Layers of Fear has such a fantastic premise, but it's so generic and boring. Also, yes, it does rip off P.T. in super blatant and uncool ways, plus the patent bullshit. Bob's video about it is great. Observer was one of the dullest games I've ever played. It's nothing but wandering halls, standing in front of doors motionless listening to people talk, and the scanning is super frustrating.I haven't played The Medium but from the comments, it sounds like it's par for the course for Bloober. i think they're good at coming up with interesting concepts, but garbage at execution, tension and fear. Seriously, give it to Red Candle!!

He was a core member of Team Silent, I think he himself mentioned on Twitter that their whole team was discussing the plot and making new ideas. I spent a good amount on Final Fantasy 15's deluxe edition only for it to be re-released a year later as the Royal Edition, and half the online events like the Assassins Creed festival I didn't even know about until it was over. Squeenix kinda lost my respect that day. I'm getting tired of half-done games being released just so you can pile DLC and limited time stuff.

@@necroarcanistxiii Personally, I skipped 13-15, but mostly because those were released when the DLC era was starting to take hold, and I lost interest in gaming more or less. I bet I played through more games in 2004 than I did from 2007-2020. That said I did pick up FF15 Royal Edition last month I think it was, for $10, physical copy at that. I figure at that price I certainly can't be upset, and now that I finally have time for gaming during the winters... Also, would it change your opinion of SE if they told you up front, "hey, this game is gonna take a while for us to finish, here's what we have for now." as is the case with FF7R? I feel it's more honest, and I can respect that. The dlc for that game (can't speak for the Yuffie bits, because they'd have to release the PS5 first, haha), was mostly pointless, and I'm ok with pointless dlc. I certainly don't feel I missed anything by not using Carbuncle as a summon.

I just don't game nearly as much as I once did, so by the time I get around to buying a "new" game, it's often a few years old and includes all the dlc. Shame it ever had to come to that, but it's the best approach for me. And since when is FF Tactics a multiplayer game? I played it on PS1, have (but haven't played yet) the PSP version, but I don't recall there ever being multiplayer?

@@spoogie35 The War of the Lions remake has 2 multiplayer modes, a head-to-head Melee and co-op Rendevous. (I kinda misremembered which version I was referring to when I mentioned the multiplayer content :p) But yeah, a lot of the Ultimate Weapons in WotL are exclusive to the Multiplayer modes as random rewards. However, in the iOS version of the remake, the weapons can be bought from a Poacher's Den after beating the main game. Honestly, if I was a developer, I would've done that from the beginning. It doesn't help either that finding someone to play a PSP game these days is hard enough. It hasn't received any new games since 2016 to keep it relevant, even the online store having been shut down in July this year. (Tho apparently you can still download PSP titles on PS3 and Vita)

Recently played Layers of Fear and got nothing but PT flashbacks. The controls are practically the same. I will say this though, they can take they’re time and bring in the scares slowly. It’s not all in your face jumpscares. So I guess I am looking forward to this for that reason.

As someone who is polish and lives in Poland and is a lifelong Silent Hill fan and faces some mental issues since childhood (anxiety and depression) I feel like I tick all the boxes to comment on statements made about my home country :) I feel like there is still some stigma in polish society when it comes to mental health, but I see it mostly in smaller towns and countryside's. In bigger metropolitan areas, like Wroclaw where I live we have around 200 or so mental healthcare professionals that you can see if you need therapy. So I wouldn't say that we live in mental dark ages where people who struggle with depression are burned on the stake. I would say that taking our history into account, trauma and suffering is something that some people see as "badge of honor". But that outdated view is slowly being eradicated. And that whole.....far right thing. Poland comes from 50 years of living under USSR, so some people have not so good view of any socially left leaning ideas. But that shows how differently we view these things in Europe, because we still have free healthcare and our currently ruling right wing party came into power by just giving money to poor people.....Which I know will be an alien idea to any american who reads this :P Right wing party that comes to power by buying votes from poorest people :D So I would say that we are ruled by ideological right wing party, who is all about God, patriotism and all that stuff. But approval polls show that polish society is split down the middle when it comes to the ruling party. Sadly last year they pushed through a law that bans abortion. This created a gigantic wave of protests, fights with police. They started to antagonize LGBTQ community. Another wave of protests. So I would say that we are not a far right country. We're just split between right and left and right is in power. For now at least.

It's a country with many problems, sure, but common people are perfectly normal and generally kind folks with decent empathy levels. Personally, I don't know even one person who would demonize a mentally ill person, and there are many, many people who are affected by mental issues in one way or another, just like anywhere else. It's also not some sort of cult country that will ostracize others for mental problems. Not that there is anything wrong with being a religious country (although I really wouldn't say that about Poland - maybe grandparents' generation, but not at all nowadays?), but everyone tries to think for themselves, just like in most (if not all) other places. Once again, though, I'm purposefully speaking of common, everyday folks that are just trying to live their lives in peace and be kind to others. Any disgusting people who yell loudly and are the most visible in media or elsewhere, sharing toxicity and discriminating against others are NOT what common people here are actually like. So while I haven't any of Bloober's games yet, I don't think many Polish people would be happy about the Medium's narrative... (Edit: And sorry if this sounded a bit emotional, but it's hurtful when people tend to think Poland is just some mentally-stuck country with no empathy... While I would risk saying that people here are actually too empathethic, at times, always hurt because of the care and heart they show to others (and get kicked in the teeth afterwards as thanks). We might be poor, we might be kicked in our asses way too many times, we might have a lot of toxic people in media, but regular people are really sweet and awfully miserable because of that on a regular basis. Eh...).

Completely hard disagree on that one. That's probably the only thing they do relatively well. The medium is gorgeous and they nailed the old silent hill camera style and atmosphere in the medium. Layers of fear was actually really beautiful imo with the way the room warps. The same goes for Observers vibe and art direction. Blair witch... That one I'll give you. I still wouldn't call it crusty. Just generic.

Oh fuck no. If after all these years Bloober is the one in charge of reviving the franchise im going to kill Konami. Bloober has yet to make a good game, The Medium, Layers of Fear and Observer are all average at best, and Blair Witch is straight up bad. The Medium, which is the closest thing to Silent Hill they've made is a mess of a game that forgets that its supposed to be a horror game (It has one fucking jumpscare and thats literally it). The Medium is the proof that they couldnt handle a bigger IP like Silent Hill. We've had several mid Silent Hill games but the game that revives the franchise should be something outstanding and that pushes forward what the series stated. Bloober Team can't do that.

Final comment. And I'm not pointlessly hating either- they DO have a game of theirs I legitimately liked: Observer. Which at first seems like a Blade Runner homage but radically becomes its own thing after the hour mark. On top of that, while the writing isn't anything to write home about, Rutger Hauer's acting pretty much elevates it enough to be engaging throughout with a sense of solemn gravitas their games normally miss. On top of that, I felt the setting it went with actually worked to the companies strengths, ie crazy visuals being a by-product of crazy neuromancy.

Never played any bloober game so maybe I'm not grasping how bad of a situation this is in comparison to everyone else, but I imagine this is like when we were about to get a really good Ghostbusters 3 but some higher up made sure it didn't happen and now it can never happen, and the aftermath of this is that we did get a new Ghostbusters, but it wasn't very good, and I think that's what this is gonna be like.

I'm a relatively new Silent Hill fan (I first played through the first three about three years ago and 4 one year ago) so the idea of a new Silent Hill game, no matter how good or bad it turns out, really excited me. Then I played through and finished Homecoming yesterday and now I think the series should stay dead. That feeling could change, I'm still feeling raw about Homecoming and there's a chance that Shattered Memories and Downpour could change my mind, but I don't trust Konami at all to choose the right team for the project. That said, I would love it if Red Candle games got a hold of the series.

The way I see it, any Silent Hill game is good at this point. If we are able to show konami that there is a demand for Silent Hill, this could lead up to more in the future. However I do still hope it's not as bad as expected.

If Konami is stuck on what to do I'd love to see a Silent Hill 1 remake. Not a re-imagining like Shattered Memories (though I do enjoy that because it's different but was still psychological), a more faithful remake like, if not more so, like Resident Evil 2 in that sense of a remake. I've never played the original Silent Hill and I would love a remake of it. I would love to play the original too but I can never seem to get lucky there and I gave up looking. I made do with watching walkthroughs of it on youtube at that point. It'd be great if they remake the original and made it a bundle with the original for an up to date console and/or pc. Resident Evil 1 remade their first game and others, why not do this with Silent Hill1?

If you meant it was a good story? Yeah, I can why in an age of Marvel films made for literal dumb babies, that are enjoyed by adults in their 30's with extreme arrested development, the story might sound good. It isn't. At all.
