This is when the show starts going in an entirely different direction and I love it. Hunter x hunter took way more time to progress than the other shonens, so Togashi was also changing the tone of the show the same way people grew up and mature during the years the show was being released.

Add to that that when he got the chance to adapt it, he purposely tried to make the world seem darker and more dangerous. He stated that part of HxH's purpose was to do what he wasn't aloowed to do with Yuyu Hakusho and break down the characters.

The reason why the mafia/security was looking for an airship and not paying attention to the hot air balloon is b/c they were under the assumption that the 500 guests were kidnapped and so they were looking for ways of transporting that massive amount of people (or bodies) with the most obvious method being an airship. If you were trying to locate 500 people, idk if you'd pay attention to and then stop basically the equivalent of a skateboard to investigate it to see if there is somehow 500 people riding on it at once. Of course they should have still stopped the hot air balloon from leaving the area (if they noticed it) but it makes sense why they would over look it. And if Nen is supposed to be a well guarded secret it makes sense why most of these people wouldn't even consider it b/c they probably don't know what Nen is, only the leaders &/or most exceptional at the top would.

Nen obviously isn’t a closely guarded secret though they have live broadcasts of matches with Nen in Hevean’s arena, even if the specifics are not known, knowing the things are possible means people can figure it out and pass the knowledge on the internet

@@andrewlynch4126 I'm pretty sure they never explained Nen there though. The announcer used terms like "magic trick" and it's ambiguous how much of the fighter's talk could be heard. As for technology, if people started showing the supernatural on the internet today, how many people would believe it was real, especially as you can only see the effects.

I haven't seen anyone mention the naming structure so, Nen Abilities when that have two parts to their names (like Bungee Gum, Elastic love), usually has one name in Katagana or HIragana and one name in Kanji. The former being how the power is pronounced while the Kanji dictates its meaning. So Tagashi really said black children are thankless heros xD

Just because they don't always animate the aura, doesn't mean the character isn't using Ten. Wing said that with enough training, you can keep Ten going 24/7, even while asleep. So there's no reason for a seasoned Nen user to not use it, but having the aura animated at all times would get visually annoying, so they don't
