Nen abilities become stronger the more restrictions you put on their use. For Kurapika, he restricted chain jail to spiders only & if he tries to use it on any non spider, he'll die. Having such specific & harsh rules make those abilities extremely powerful vs the troupe

Nen powers work off restrictions. The more restrictive the covenant the stronger the power so he covenanted that he would die if he used it on anyone other than a spider which is why its so strong.

Also, these restrictions and contracts are just shortcuts. Kurapika could have reach the same level of nen for his chain jail through years of training and experience even if he can only master 60% proficiency of enhancers. But since he needs power up asap, he chose to make the contract.

The whole Chain Jail ability kurapika used is only so strong because he made a promise to use solely on Phantom Troupe members otherwise he'd die. Thats why his Nen chains are so strong they can keep a Master Enhancer like Uvogin in check. Without a strong intent his chains would just be normal chains.

To explain a little about Kurapika's abilities atm (Not really a spoiler, just an explanation). In Hunter x Hunter, Nen abilities have restrictions. This means, that the more restrictive/risky an ability is to use, the more powerful it can become. The ceiling of that power depends on each individual, Kurapika being from the Kurata clan is key in this, which will be explained in the show. So Kurapika's most powerful Nen ability, can only work on Phantom Troupe Members, and if he uses it on anyone else, his own ability will destroy his heart. This sort of risk of self-sacrifice, plus restricting his ability to only a couple people in the world makes it extremely powerful... but again, very risky/limited. Took me my 3rd watch through to really grasp this concept, but it makes Nen so much cooler.

The reason the chains would be tough to break out even if Uvogin wasn't weakened, is because of the "restriction" that is placed on Kurapika's "Chain Jail" technique. Restrictions/or covenants (a pledge or an agreement towards something) makes a nen ability triple times the strength it normally has. ^^ "Chain Jail" can only be used on a troupe member, and there's a chain attached to Kurapika's heart 24/7 in the case he uses it on someone other than a troupe member, he'll die right there.

HXH has always been kinda dark but it was hidden behind the upbeat soundtrack, Gon's perspective, and censoring in early episodes. Hundreds of people DIED in the hunter exam. People died in Heavens Arena. York New is the arc where the Shackles come off.

If you've finished the HXH anime then you should know that the CA arc is considered to be the best Shounen arc of all time. AOT is good when it comes to story, worldbuilding, fights and philosophy. But HXH has all of that and more. The best power system and the best anime transformation. And the series isn't even over, AOT will end soon tho keep that in mind.

The chain user that’s the beauty of hxh, you would never know who would win in a fight cause the anime is not about power levels it’s about the circumstances of the fights. At least that’s what I took from the anime. Maybe in some circumstances kura can pull something crazy like beating nobunaga or someone strong in the troupe but for now with what we have it’s hard to expect anything even thou I know kurapika is really smart.
