Looking at Uvo (big strong caveman of the Phantom Troupe) is like looking into Gon's future. They are so alike. Personality wise, Uvo's excitement at the boss wanting to steal everything really mirror's Gon's excitement when presented with any challenge. It reminds me of when Gon was on the airship during the hunter exam, how even when he knew that he couldn't actually win Netero's game, he still wanted to try because he liked the challenged. Uvo is also very simple like Gon. When presented with all these Nen users with weird abilities, his solutions to counter them are always the most straightforward ones. You are underground? I'll just punch the ground. I can't move my arms or legs? I'll just bite you. This mirrors Gon. Think of his fights in Heaven's Arena, beating everyone prior to the 200s by just pushing them, then in the 200s answering people with weird complicated abilities by just chucking a big stone slab at them. Even against Hisoka (and to be clear, I'm not saying these are DUMB solutions, just simple and straight forward ones). This is even reflected in Uvo's nen ability. The reason none of the Phantom Troupe are impressed by it (whereas we see members talking about how impressive Hisoka's Bungee Gum is or Hisoka complimenting Machi's Nen Stitched) is because on a technical level, it isn't impressive. It is basic. You know how Gon and Killua can see nen by focusing their own nen into their eyes? That is what Uvo does (you can see his aura drain out of everywhere else to focus on his fist), just focusing it on his hand instead. It is a simple, brute force ability, which reminds me of Gon's conversation with Zushi where Zushi is amazed Gon hasn't had any formal training (Killua too, but Killua was trained to be an assassin and has the assassin skills to prove it). Gon has no real technique, he is just strong, and that goes for Uvo too.

There are like several characters in Hunter X Hunter that serve as glimpses into Gon's possible dark future, should he choose a wrong path in life. Hisoka if he gets absorbed by self-indulgence, Uvogin, if he becames too infatuated with his own strength, Ging if he becomes a thrill seeker that doesn't truly care about people or obligations. All of those are entirely possible based purely on the fact that Gon doesn't actually operate on human morality, but on weird moon logic.

Just to add on to that. Both characters are surprisenly smart. Most people know that about Gon, but they tend to forget that Uvogin isn't just a brute pile of muscles, he is extremely clever and quick thinker like you would expect of a nen master. We will see more of that is the next few episodes

Gon's uncle Ben was supposed to be Netero, Wing, Bisky, or Kite, and not a single one of them took or had the time to explain how morals work. Killua despite the abuse atleast seems to have learned perspective from his family/life, Gon learned his moral perspective when he became an apex predator at 12. I love him but replace super strength with a lot of money and he just becomes a trust-fund child.

I feel so bad for Melody when Uvo yells. And a fighter snapping and losing control SOUNDS badass, but it’s why he didn’t think to use Gyo right away in the car, AND why he wasn’t looking at the road! Mentality is CRUCIAL in a nen fight and the boy became reckless af. With all those troupe members there and in his state Kurapika would’ve gotten himself killed, full stop. Also not you thinking she would play that piece after she JUST said she doesn’t want anyone else to wind up like her??? 🤡

Given that Uvo ultimately killed the Shadow Beasts it's easy to forget that the Shadow Beasts showcase that the Phantom Troupe are NOT invincible. The combo of Leech and Rabid Dog basically would have doomed Uvo to a slow death he wouldn't know how to stop if it weren't for the rest of the Phantom Troupe telling him how to solve it. This fight is yet another showcase of how in battles between Nen users raw power will only go so far.

The thing about kurapika is he’s really kind of suicidal. well they don’t call it a self-destructive quest for revenge for nothing. But who could blame him idk if the horror of his story actually sinks in for people but it’s not like it was just his family that was killed which would be bad enough, but like, his entire people, his entire culture & homeland was destroyed in the most horrific way possible for his people’s bodies to be sold to sick fucks like trophies

The phantom troupe playing Uno while Uvo's fighting the strongest assassins the mafia got is one of the biggest flexes in anime

I think what's crazy is the 4 beasts could of actually beaten Uvogin had they knew who he was prior and been aware of what he's capable of because they all had a way to counter his fighting style (a way to disable him, internal attacks, a way to absorb his blows, and fast sneak attacks/distractions) but they all got demolished because they severely underestimated him.

They don't fully explain this I don't think so I'll go a little bit over it the way nen abilities work is that the more restrictive they are the more powerful they are. Effectively think about it like this, you create your nen ability, and then you stipulate rules for how and when you can use the power. The more restrictive those rules and the greater the punishment for breaking those rules makes the ability stronger. So in this case currifica limited his ability to only work on people who are actually members of the spider. The condition being if he uses it on anyone else and then chain made by him will stab him in the heart. Because of how imposing this condition is and how grave consequences are the ability is much much stronger so in practice no one uses this ability on can break it cuz of how restrictive it is makes it super strong. We get more examples of this kind of thing as we go but conjurors remain as effectively the most practical use of those restrictions. So if we think back to when we were explained what a conjurer can do. You can't make a sword that got anything, but you can make a sword that specifically cuts one thing and because of that the sword will never fail to cut that one thing. Conjurors can be very creative and very smart with the restrictions and how to make their abilities more powerful.

Have you are thought about how similar Kurapika with Uchiha Sasuke. Both are part of a clan that was slaughtered five years before the beginning of the story (the Kurtas and the Uchihas, respectively), both exist solely to take revenge on the ones responsible, both are very stoic and tend to keep their distance from others and both also deem friendship as a weakness. Not to mention they both have eyes that turn red whenever they're angry.

None of the people in the car are experienced in Nen combat. Hell even Dallzolene who has more experience than the others is still a rookie at Nen. They don't have the Gyo reflex yet. Especially in a super intense situation when they have basically no reason to be suspicious of as the troupe had no idea one of them was gonna get captured. Plus there are ways to track that are invisible even to Gyo so it's not automatic. They're lucky Machi is a transmuter, a conjurer for example could track someone without using "In" so no Gyo could detect it.

The first thing Alicia does is usually compare another anime to hunter x hunter even though hunter x hunter came before all those more generic shonen, this time I fully expected her to compare it to jujutsu kaisen (I've seen she has it on her channel, If anyone is willing to tell me how much she understood the jujutsu kaisen power system to know If I should check it out, please do so). Since the self imposed restriction and how that works for nen is the closest to jujutsu kaisen out of everything she watched and compared to hxh , I didn't expect her not to mention it, but then again since she just watches generic shonen I guess I should have tempered my expectations.
