possibly the best bat-rep i have seen from Dave! Nice one. A lot of people are complaining about 'tailoring' the list. I feel it is common courtesy to tell my opponent in advance what army(s) i will be using. The fact is that Blood Angels are a very flamery army anyways and in most of the bat-reps Dave had done so far he seems to use a lot of flamers. Also the Dark Eldar we mostly a very high toughness negating any real benefit of having a flamer heavy army. good play from both sides, lots of early points for the Blood Angels, i feel like the Dark Eldar dominated the game even though it was a technical Blood Angels victory. Venoms - Flickerfield 5++ inv save (that bolter hull point) Stormraven - the fire arcs on the hurricane bolters is incredibly small (about 60 degrees from the front arc, certainly can't shoot at perpendicular angle to the hull) Lovely use of machine spirit for multi unit targetting on the Stormraven, but also as just some friendly advice to Dave is to make sure when firing at a single target with it PoTMS allows a 5th shot at full balistic skill at that same target. I don't know Blood Angels, but the standard sm missiles it's equipped with are s8 ap2 so are pretty nasty.

Keep in mind these two have played each other at least 3 times if memory serves me right, so they already know what to expect from each other. So it isn't much tailoring of the lists as it is simply learning from previous battles and adapting to the situation.

Archon, 8 Sslyths and a Raider is quite a large point sink. A Razorwing and 6 men Reaver unit would have done wonders in this kind of game. Mitch: "Roll for Combat drugs... 4. That means the Wyches are Toughness 4 and Reavers are Toughness 5." Dave: "TOUGHNESS 5?! But they're Dark Eldar!"

Isvoor I just checked a bit in the main rule book and the poison rule states that "...weapon that has the Poisoned special rule, it always wounds on a fixed number [...], unless a lower result would be required..." and also "In addition, if the Strength of the wielder (or the Poisoned weapon) is higher than the Toughness of the victim, the wielder must re-roll failed rolls To Wound in close combat.". So they all wounded on 3+ with re-rolls all legally according to the main rule book.

chapelxiii follow your instincts, based on the rules, POMS can fire at a different target unit subject to the normal shooting rules, which means when the tank fires its weapons in a turn in which the vehicle neither moves Flat Out nor uses its smoke, the vehicle can fire one additional weapon. These shots are still coming from the same tank so cannot shoot models forced to disembark from the tanks previous weapons shooting results, as per normal vehicle shooting rules. It can however target a different unit at the same it shoots the original target unit.

Very strange game... First off the opponent seemed nice and all... I understood his frustration in the beginning but it was a bit weird as the battle went on and he was actually getting good rolls and favorable results (like ALL HIS FEEL NO PAIN ROLLS)... like he seemed very annoyed every roll didnt go his way (roll 4 jinks, fail 1 ' oh come on ' ). Also... why did he call it? He was behind on the objectives but Dave had -2- units on the table and one of them was actually on hover mode. He could have taken both out and won the game by tabling!

I know. From past videos they usually roll to see if the game goes on to turn 6+ and if it doesn't whoever has highest score wins. If it had went on he could've tabled Dave.

My initial question has to be why Sslyths and not Medusae? AP(3?) Template with Assault. Why not take them instead? Note: Brand new to the hobby and getting Dark Eldar as my first army, so not sure what makes each unit tick yet.

Boredom_Incarnate The Medusae's Template S4 AP3 weapon is perfect for whittling down a unit your Archon wants to charge (see that marine with a heavy flamer/flamer? Burn him!!), and if someone tries to charge your unit, automatic D3 hits on overwatch with S4 AP3 per medusae in your unit, that'll make those marines think twice before assaulting you! As for melee, the Medusae is just terrible compared to the Sslyth. The Medusae is S3 T3 W1 A1 5+, so they'll rarely kill something in CC, but WILL get killed. Sslyths are S5 T5 W2 A3 5+, with a Close Combat Weapon, a Splinter Pistol (One extra attack!), a Shardcarbine(18", Assault 3, Poisoned 4+, AP5, use this in your shooting phase!) and Feel no Pain by default. This makes Sslyths a better choice (in my opinion) than the medusae, they're just more durable and worth their point cost! Besides, your Archon should be fighting in CC, not shooting. As a Dark Eldar player myself, I recommend you take Incubi with your Archon, they will slaughter any unit they charge! The court might be too expensive in low Point games. If your dead set in taking a Court, then I suggest a mix between Medusae and Sslyth (Just make sure the majority are Sslyths!) And as for you getting started on the hobby, the Dark Eldar is one of the hardest and unforgiving armies out there. You will lose A LOT at first, but you'll get better (in time XD) and you'll see just how awesome this army is!! =D Welcome to Warhammer 40k!! =)

Armando Garcin Thanks for that, that was by far the most informative thing I've read about warhammer minus the BRB itself :P I will have to disappoint you in that after some mock proxy battles with a friend, I decided to go with Space Wolves as my first faction instead. I will probably play DE soon as a second or third army choice because I find myself enjoying the modeling and painting almost more than the game, but I wanted something a little less likely for me to play poorly and get shat on for the first few impoverished months of the game :D

You can't Jink in the middle of a shooting attack. You have to elect to Jink when you're selected as a Target of a shooting attack. Also you have to use the Tactical Objective Cards for your Army, it's in your codex, both Blood Angels and Dark Eldar have them, they replace the first six cards (11-16), if your Warlord is from that army and you're playing Maelstrom of War missions.

There's almost no synergy in any of these Blood Angel lists I see here. Shave some points off the hand flamers, give the priest a jump pack, load him up with Dante and the Assault Mar... no just drop their points for some sanguinary guard. Also, remember the Axe Mortalis is a master crafted weapon. Still, tactically I think Dave did better this game than in any other batreps. List-building aside, I think these are some of the best batreps on youtube simply because you can see every roll. Keep it going guys!

Slight mistakes on the Deldar player's side(don't play Blood Angels so have no idea if any mistakes were made). The Haemonculus Covens Coterie Covenite requires 2 HQ and 2 Elite slots. Mitch has 2 Grotesque units which make up the Elite slots, however, he only has one Haemonculus in the Coterie Covenite part, the Dark Artisan Haemonculus does not count because he is part of a different formation. Also, not sure if just a slight mix up of words on Mitch's part, but the Cronos has to be upgraded with a Spirit Probe to have the SIX inch bubble of +1 Feel No Pain.

Dark Eldar Player have forget Rampage special rule of the Grotesques. All Grotesques get 3 Attacks+1 for Charge+D3 for Rampage, because 5 Marines>3 Grots. Even Lelith and Dracon have Rampage.

You didnt't need to drop those 40 points to get the kabalite warriors in. Your army was perfectly fine. The coven detachment requires two elites slots and an hq slot, which you had. Then, an allied detachment requires at least 1 hq and 1 troops choice right? You had those as well.

Benito Bianko No they can't. Dark Eldar and Hamonculous covens are both considered faction Dark Eldar. Allied detachments have to be a different faction from your primary. You can't for example take an Ork combined arms detachment and a WAAAGH!!! Ghazgull allied detachment. Space marines are the only ones that can do this by taking different chapter tactics and it's only because the codex and FAQ specifically says they can.

I don't think the Dark Eldar player realises that the Covonite detachment requires 2 HQs. He only has one in that detachment, as the other Haemonculous is part of the Dark Artisan formation, which is a separate detachment. Also, the Cronos only adds +1 to FnP within 6", not 12". I don't have the books in front of me to check these, but I am 98% positive on both things (but am willing to eat humble pie if I am wrong)

I believe in this match the DE have 1 primary detachment, 1 dark artisan formation, and 1 grotesquerie, hence the 4+ FNP from the grotesques for their random table

MrSelfDelusional Cool, that makes total sense - I had missed that. It is a wise move. - I love Grotesques. He's done a great job and making each one stand out. I hadn't thought of Chaos Spawns and Warbosses, mine are half Rat Ogres, some weird 3rd party things from Hong Kong, a couple of the Games Workshop ones and the big Plague dude from Deadzone. I think the new Skaven things would also look great as Grotesques with a little work from extra Pain/Parasite Engine bits
