@@johnivory3245 You can be condescending all you want, doesn't change the truth. Iroh incorporates waterbending in his style in order to create Lightning Redirection. He explains what makes the Avatar so powerfull is that the Avatar understands all four elements and that Zuko can grow from the same thing too. This isn't subtext. It's literally told. We've seen Katara do literally that. But I should have known better then trying to clarify something to someone with such a hater ass mindset that them complimenting a charachter is taken as an insult.

The one thing i love about this episode and Katara's fight in particular, is how much she has learned by being around other benders. Water bending is all about redirecting your opponents attacks, we see Katara choose to use an earth bending stance and stop Hamas attack in its tracks, it's why Hama was so shocked by it. Just the show showing us what Uncle Iroh was teaching Zuko about learning from the other nations and how to put it into practice
@Alusnovalotus2 ай бұрын
Yes!!! If a firebender like Iroh can learn from waterbenders, waterbenders can also learn a thing or two from earthbenders, etc.
@pabloc88082 ай бұрын
It's a spoiler but . . . . . . . Zuko's firebending style changes after he joins the Gaang, because he learns from them. Aang's earthbending is more fluid than Toph's because he doesn't let go of his original form, airbending. And while Toph's form doesn't really change throughout the show, she is extremely creative with earthbending, a stark contrast with most earthbenders, who are known as stubborn and resistant to change.

Hama had to stopped, but in the end, you still have to feel bad for her. She was a product of the fire nation war machine who was driven to insanity by all the unspeakable horror she went through. Had the superhuman fortitude to drive off and resist many raids on her village, while her friends kept getting snatched up 1 by 1 until only she was left. And then the mental fortitude to withstand DECADES of imprisonment in a suspended cage, having to stick her face in a bowl with her hands tied just to even drink water everyday. This is a kid's show, so they never explain the reason for this, but before hama had ever thought of blood bending, she was the only water bender left because LITERALLY ALL the others had died. We can only speculate how, but that means for decades, Hama then had to watch as 1 by 1 all her friends kept dying around her. It doesn't excuse Hama imprisoning all those civilians, but that shit would drive even the strongest of people mad.

As a second generation immigrant of parents who fled a civil war in their homeland caused by the USA involvement by assisting the government at the time with commiting genocides, child soldiers, and war crimes i can completely empathize with Hama and feel her story. Maybe it happened the first time or in the many rewatches, but like...the fire nation committed multiple genocides of benders and Hama witnessed everyone she knew and love be captured/tortured/killed to then be bound in chains and imprisoned for the would be remainder of her life. Sure shes "evil" and she 100% is taking her revenge on the wrong people, but its to me like Nat Turner the slave who led a revolution on the slave plantation he lived on and proceeded to lead a 4 day revolution marching onto plantations freeing his brothers and sisters burning down their masters farms and homes only to then be captured by a militia of armed slavers, and the assistance of the state military forces (USA government) and died by public hanging, don't forget the hundreds of slaves executed alongside him and the mass execution of slaves in plantations which didnt revolt due to fear of them rising up. Its tough to say she ISNT empathetic when she really is. I feel like you have to either be a minority or truly understand the day to day suffering and history of minorities to understand Hama

I pity Hama for what happened to her but her backstory does not absolve her in my book. She might've been driven insane by what was done to her, but she is no idiot. She specifically seemed to target civilians rather than soldiers, because they have zero chance of fighting back. Plus the saddest thing is, if civilians go missing the Fire Nation does not care as much, but if she actually went after the military they'd invest more resources to catch her. Even though she's convinced herself she's a soldier fighting for the cause, she's really just living out some twisted power fantasy and her real enemy is not bleeding at all.
