Katara is the most hurt out of all of the group because she's the most trusting one. She trusted Zuko and really believed his changed and Zuko betrayed her. She has every right to distrust Zuzu and I even understand her outright death threat.

Saying that you’re sorry doesn’t automatically make everything okay. To me, Katara is the best example of that. As unforgiving as she may have been, you have to remember that because of Zuko’s choice in Ba Sing Se, Aang was killed right in front of her. And especially after almost using the spirit water on Zuko, it was pretty much pure luck and chance that she was able to bring Aang back at all. And in addition to that, she stayed by his side for weeks doing regular healing sessions not knowing when or even if Aang was going to wake up. Toph and Sokka were worried too of course. But they didn’t see him die. They didn’t have the up close and personal experience that she did. They didn’t take care of him or nurse him back to health. All this to say, I completely understand Katara. After losing her mother the way she did, I can’t imagine how traumatic it was to watch what happened to Aang. Zuko has done his part in recognizing his major role in the destruction that he’s caused. Especially growing up with the family he had. And yes, he has changed. But unfortunately that doesn’t erase what he did in the past, and nor does he get to dictate how quickly he is forgiven for it. But definitely one of my favorite episodes just for the emotional complexity of it. This seems more real to me as far as how forgiveness tends to work in real life. It’s not black and white most times, but full of gray areas. ❤ I’m genuinely enjoying y’all’s reaction to probably the piece of media that played the biggest role in my life of shaping who I am. I can’t wait to see you guys watch the next few episodes. Season 3 is a doozy 😂 Also a quick note: From this episode and forward, since Zuko now knows the true source of fire bending, he no longer grunts when he is fighting. His uncle always put emphasis on breath work and remembering to breathe when they were training together. This hint is super subtle, but it also shows that his fire truly no longer comes from rage. His breathing is controlled.

A really cool detail of The Firebending Masters is towards the end when we see the still frame of Aang firebending. Do you remember the mast time we saw him firebend? We got a still frame of him looking scared as he realized he was about to burn Katara, an incident that ended up causing a mental block and a fear of firebending. Here, the first time we see him firebend again since that incident, we get a still frame of him firebending after his fears have been overcome, smiling and free of worry. It's a small detail but a really, really good callback that I dont see anyone catch.

Another incredible detail about the music in this show; The show hints at this moment from episode 1. The opening theme is played during all of Aang's heroic moments. The ending theme with the drums is always played when Zuko firebends from the first episode. Then both halves play together in the epic moment they do the dragon dance together. From the start, the show and the music has perfectly represented the two as Yin and Yaang.

Zuko looking at the flame and saying "I understand" hits everytime, it's like all of Uncle's teachings sunk in at once and were vindicated by that flame. "Pride is not the opposite of shame, but it's source", "In the Darkest times Hope is something you must give yourself", "It's time to look inward and ask yourself the big questions: Who are you and what do you want?" Double whammy with Aang letting go of his fear of firebending, that still frame in slow-motion is the same one he used to burn Katara, also seeing the root of firebending must have given him hope that though the world went out of balance in the 100 years he was gone, there is still a chance to return the Fire Nation to the way it was meant to be. One of the best episodes for sure.

Incorrect, they actually didn’t trust him easily because they wanted to, the gang at first tolerated him because they had no choice and aang needed a firbender. Katara for one definitely did not give him a free pass and aang being nice to him is just in his nature and based off the past Roku showed him, if you actually watched the show and comprehended it you would not need this explained btw. Also the gang was more confident in their skills now so even if he tried to betray them he wouldn’t have made it out alive. At this point in the series katara is basically a master water bender who knows bloodbending, toph is a master earth bender and aang mastered three elements plus zuko wouldn’t have had anyone to go back to for help, he didn’t know where his uncle stood with him, azula and ozai definitely wouldn’t help him so this statement you made makes no sense.

I think it's interesting who starts resisting Zuko the fastest. -Toph: has good experiences with his Uncle and can tell he's genuine. She starts trusting him the fastest. -Aang: who has some positive interactions with him and had been saved by him. He forgives him next. Sokka: Zuko has no positive interactions with him and embarrassed him in the 1st episode. He accepts Zuko 3rd. Katara: Zuko lied to her, used her personal items against her, almost killed Aang, and more. She never trusts or accepts Zuko.

Comets and meteors are made of different materials. Comets have tails, meteors appear like shooting stars. Comets orbit and return, meteors enter earth’s atmosphere and burn up. Sokka’s sword and Toph’s arm bracelet is from a meteor

I love Zuko as a new member of Team Avatar, he fits perfectly. I haven’t finished the reaction yet and so far I haven’t seen comments mentioning this, but I saw a while ago someone talking how Zuko probably doesn’t know how everyone is called. He introduces himself while trying to join the group but none of them mimics him, and in the next episodes he barely calls anybody by their name, using other words to refer to them instead (if I remember correctly). I just find it funny, the idea of him being so focused in his search for the Avatar as a concept and not as a person, that he didn’t bother learning his or his friends names!
