I thoroughly enjoyed blood omen 2. It could be confusing if you hadn't played the soul reaver games, but I instantly realized that the story was explaining what happened after elde Kain and Raziel screwed about with the timeliness in Nosgoths past. That is what caused the inconsistencies with continuity that some ha e complained about.
@RavusNox-z5i2 жыл бұрын
@@irakennington9701 I always interpreted BO2 to be happening after Defiance when the pillars explode and Janos Audron is controlled by Hylden Lord. As such, BO2 is the true ending.

I love Blood Omen 2. Mainly because it shows what Sarafan were truly like, and how humans were used by both vampires and Hylden. It also shows exactly who is pulling the strings of the Sarafan order. This gives a really deep perspective on the whole atmosphere of the world - given that all other LOK series simply bash on humans. I also love it how it shows that not all Hylden are evil. Some were actually on vampires' side. Blood Omen 2 shows a much deeper complexity between the factions of Nosgoth, in a realistic way. Unlike other titles, which felt more black and white in comparison. At least in this regard.

I started re-playing this game yesterday after buying it from steam for 0.89 because I got hooked again by listening to this sountrack and seeing the nicely chosen screenshots. It's insane what a timeless piece of art this game is, from level design and lighting, to the design of combat (and of course, the music and soundFX). Contemporary games should be inspired by this. The depth and feeling of going on an actual adventure on a vast journey is so pleasently implemented. It is a game with incredible depth and enjoyable game mechanics. (If you have problems with the menu getting stuck, simply ctrl+alt+del your way out of it, switch between task manager and game to get passed the menus and the game should work fine otherwise, despite the bad reviews. It even decently supports xBox360 controller still, which is really great for that orignal feel)

At the time, games were great constantly, so Blood Omen 2 just seemed a bit mediocre, but when you play this in 2024, it;s design is so tight, and the feel of going on a journey in this atmospheric world is way above stuff now. Cool character, all these nice little ideas. And the OST. It's got real passion put into it, it's only that the other games had even more so it got bad reviews. They can't make games like this now though.
@harrysanders81810 ай бұрын
@@PalaceMidasMusic They should tho! And I don't see how other games had "more" in them. I see no need to compare pieces of art and tag some sort of consumer value metric to them. They stand on their own. No one would say : Have you heard that great album? Watched that great movie? Saw that great picture? Only to follow up with: Jeah, but album/film/pic XYZ had even more to offer. With games, people treat it as if they would shop in a supermarket or "best value for buck" mentality. I think this is super weird.
@PalaceMidasMusic10 ай бұрын
@@harrysanders818 I get your point. But I mean the other Legacy of Kain Games, people seem to prefer them and for whatever reason dislike this one, even though it's probably my favourite. I agree though more isn't always better it often just mean bloat. I had a go of the new Tomb Raider remasters the other day and thought the same thing, no-one makes that kind of level design now but they should. A mixture of puzzles, combat and adventure set in dungeon like levels with good atmosphere . The last games to really have it were Zelda titles like Twilight Princess before the Breath Of The Wild games, although I DO like those too.

I played all the Soul Reaver games, and this is my favorite. The main reason is that it's more of a classic vampire game with a classic vampire setting. I really loved the atmosphere of the game compared to the Raziel focused Soul Reaver games. Mainly sneaking around foggy medieval towns and killing people as a Vampire. One main thing I always hated in the Soul Reaver Raziel games is the constant switch between astral realm and reality. That was tedious. And Soul Reaver games are often basically Tomb Raider platformers/puzzle solving which I don't like. I would say my two favorite games of the franchise are Blood Omen 2 and Defiance, Defiance because it precisely brought back Kain and his more action focused gameplay.
@virgogaming64882 жыл бұрын
Blood Omen 2 and Defiance are my favorites as well. Kain being brutal feels more satisfying and visceral than Raziel's astral shifting and soul sucking.

There was a rumor this game was supposed to be the sequel of a sega game named "Chakan". But, so far, none of this has been confirmed. Nonetheless, it is said there are many similarities between the aforementioned game and BO2, not only aesthetically but also in plot elements.
@bazlmoon4 жыл бұрын
Sadly it was by a different team, on a different game engine working with the majority of their resources being sucked up by Soul Reaver 2 - and who'd been given mandate to separate themselves from the rest of the series. But it was always BO2 - The Chakan/Sirens rumours were officially laid to rest years ago. There are multiple sources from people that no longer work with the company saying that there was no asset sharing or anything like that - just one man who has a very unique style who worked on all three titles and who was overworked when he worked on BO2 and unintentionally mirrored some of his earlier cancelled projects. By this stage if there really had been some cross-company collaboration it would've been discovered. Boring though it seems, Blood Omen 2 was always just Blood Omen 2.
@ArvelDreth4 жыл бұрын
I prefer the gameplay of Blood Omen 2 far more than in either of the Soul Reaver games, even if the story is not quite as well done. However I'm really happy this game exists because it gave us extremely important insight into the Hylden as a species. Without this game, I feel like they'd have basically just been relegated to being essentially absentee villains for the entire series. Also this game was not going to be something else before they slapped Blood Omen on it, the team who worked on it was just different than the team who worked on the Soul Reaver games, and that team was a different one than the people who worked on Blood Omen 1. I think it was appropriate, really, because Nosgoth itself was supposed to be far different. This is Nosogth farther into the future than we ever see it in any other game aside from Soul Reaver 1, where Kain was basically causing indefinite stagnation before humans became nearly extinct, and the world started to go into a state of Armageddon. It only seems natural that the setting undergoes a dramatic and interesting metamorphosis when taken over by the Hylden, who come from another dimension, and are technologically inclined.

I'd love if you did some videos about Blood Omen 2! I recognize it's a *bit* of a mess to put it lightly but it has it's place as the angsty teenager of the series in my opinion. Blood Omen 2 is not a direct continuation of Blood Omen 1, it's a follow up to altered events from Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance. It's titled Blood Omen 2 because its another Kain solo adventure. And you could argue Vorador mellowed from Umah like Kain did from Raziel.
