When I was about 10yrs old, I felt a wet patch on my leg & when I looked down, saw blood. I thought I'd been bitten by a snake but it was a big fat (well fed) leech! We were having a family picnic on a bush block that was being cleared. Leeches are fairly common in Tasmania & are a nuisance to bushwalker's, especially in the rainforest areas.
