I reduced sugar and carbs drastically and started consuming more healthy fats like olive oil and eating more whole foods in general, and wow my sleep has totally improved. Could be the ultra-processed foods I've eliminated too. All the chemicals/preservatives shoved into those types of foods doesn't help sleep at all.

I feel like I got the answer I have been looking for. I have CGM on and the alarm went off every 2 hrs or so because my glucose was too low. I am not diabetic but my doc put me on the monitor to find out why my A1C is high. Yes, it is. I am on a plant based diet, fasting, exercise, lost 20lbs, my insulin is low, but it's high. I sleep thru the night, but feel tired when I wake up. So this is why. I will discuss this with my doc. Thank you for this video!

Thank you for this video. I drastically reduced my calorie intake to lose weight. For a number of weeks I kept waking up early, feeling wired, sweating and could not get back to sleep. Over time I was so sleep deprived I was hallucinating. Even prescribed sleep aids didn't help. I followed the advice in this video and I'm now starting to sleep normally again. 😴

Very helpful video A combination of fasting before bed Keto and high stress I believe had caused this for me Already one night of having milk and honey- as well as a scoop of peanut butter before bed has made a difference. I woke up last night but not with the intense adrenaline rush- and was able to fall back asleep instead of laying there for 6 hours going insane 🥴

Yeah I have these symptoms and I habitually skip meals. I haven't been able to sleep well for years, constant headaches, huge under eye bags and darkness. The doctor even gave me anti anxiety meds in grad school. I bought new sheets and comforters thinking it was the material causing me to sweat at night, but honestly I think it's my diet. I exercise 5-6x/day but I always struggle with my diet. I'm going to give up processed sugar and fruits and stick to 1 cup of good carbs. Hope my sleep improves

I was going through all of this. I used to have regular headaches and often sweat at night and wake up constantly. January this year I cut out all carbs and now virtually only eat Beef Salmon Eggs Butter Mct oil 2 teaspoons a day Avocado Greek yogurt ( my one treat ) I lost 30 pounds and can’t remember my last headache. Energy levels are great and I sleep well. If I was you I would try it out.

I’ve heard that fasting can help this. I’ve tried everything else, nothing works for me. I’m experimenting with a long term water fast, not sure how long I’ll go. Only other thing I’m consuming are vitamins and electrolytes (mostly in the form of pills or sea salt). I’m about ~60 hours in. It sucks so far; nausea, headaches, weakness. Powering through this to start burning fat (I’m around 22% body fat). Though on the plus side, l’m super stimulated and concentrated through the day which helps tremendously with work (feels like adderall I used for finals in college lol). I’m hoping this process helps my fatty liver / helps reverse my type 2 diabetes and as a result helps me sleep in the future. We’ll see!

This sounds so much like it will be helpful to me. I do intermittently fast and have a very small eating window. There is no way I’m getting enough calories so I have been eating very high fat and very moderate protein. It is my intention to add One boiled egg and some butter at bedtime. This will be an experiment for me I will check back as I am a chronic insomniac for years. To the point that I’ve accepted it and developed an altar ego that’s up during the night and gets a lot of things done. I really am hoping to restore my sleep patterns. Thank you so much for posting I will check back in a week to report after employing the change.

I think having a little protein and fat in the middle of your fasting period in order to maintain good sleep and keep your system balanced is an acceptable compromise. Sounds like your going to have to sacrifice one way or the other and I would choose good rest over clinging to a dogmatic 16 hour (or however long) fasting window . Maybe you can shorten your feeding window to 5 or 6 hours during the day to take up some of the slack.

A snack with sugar can create a spike and drop in blood sugar. Protein will give a more sustained source of glucose and help blood sugar stay stable longer into the night.
@matteotortorici

Wouldn't protein before bed make it worse. It makes more sense to eat carbs to restore glycogen. Something sugary and salty. Sugar lowers the need for cortisol, and salt lowers adrenaline. Protein will just make you more hypoglycemic and increase the need for cortisol and adrenaline.

I am learning to know my body and I find that when my sugar drops below 5.0 I can't sleep I wakeup and need to eat some thing. IS IT NORMMAL TO wake when sugar drops below 5.0 ? and it it better to leave sugar at higher level and only take slow acting NO fast acting? I will figure it out

How about having stress. Of not having food or electricity or ability to work. Stress of no knowing if you have a place to live. Being skinny diabetic. Having a fat Dr wearing an insulin pump that is evaluating you for diabetes.. I'm not talking about overweight I'm talking about extremely obese. And he keeps on telling me that that would be this is perfectly manageable as I looked into his waiting room and see the other diabetic center huge. So get a insulin pump and being fat is healthy. Well get like most looking at the outside and maybe some jealousy.
