This song is written by the Bronx child prodigy and genius singer/songwriter, Laura Nyro, from her first LP 'More Than a New Discovery' released January 1967 when she was aged 19. She wrote 'And When I Die' when she was aged 16. At one time she was approached by BST to be their singer, but she declined to pursue her solo career, At that time, David Geffen was her manager. Nyro is loved and revered by the music industry as one of its greatest ever talents. Just about every artist, producer and musician is a fan, to this day. She passed from ovarian cancer in 1997 aged 49. She had a son, her one child born. She was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012 by Bette Midler, with her son Gil accepting the award.

It was the first night of shrimping season. About 1992, so close to the ocean I could almost see the waves breaking from a 14 foot jon boat.. A hell of a storm came out of nowhere so I ran the boat up in the marsh grass and turned the little boat upside down over me and my guests. I sang this song because I just knew my life was over. It seemed to have appeased everybody. I am a conservative and make no excuses for it.. Seems like I would have sung a spiritual , so beats me.

I’m a metal head, I listen to stuff like Megadeth, KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, Slayer, stuff like that but this song started it all for me. I know that it’s not even hard rock or anything but this is the song that got me in to classic stuff back when I was around 8 or 9. I’m 16 now and I still look back at this song from time to time because it truly is a great song and I appreciate my step grandfather for introducing me to it.

+Warm Badger No matter what it is called. I raised several teenagers, some in school bands as well as their friends. MANY thought they were the so-called geeks of the music world. Then I pointed out videos like this that had a mix of instruments. One of the newest was a Shania Twain concert with a gentleman playing an "accordion" on stage with her. Music is just that, music. If you are good, you deserve praise.

On this day in 1969 {October 12th} "And When I Die" by Blood, Sweat, and Tears entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #50; and on November 23rd, 1969 it peaked at #2 {for 1 week}... It was BS&T's third straight release to peak at #2, it followed "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and "Spinning Wheel", and all three records each spent 13 weeks a piece on the Top 100... The week "And When I Die" was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Come Together/Something" by the Beatles...

Joe Herald A little bit perhaps, the Beastie Boys had a great impact ion the music world and changed a landscape. The albums are so much more than the radio play - like any proper band even BST. KISS makes me feel bad about music in general, ushered in advertising and merchandising over quality, top shelf manure. The world will be a better place once the whole clown class falls off of the earth... They can take their bastard children ICP with them.

Po uzatvorení zmluvy so spoločnosťou Columbia Records nahrali album Child Is Father To The Man, ktorý predstavil zmes bluesových skladieb ovplyvnených psychadelickým rockom, klasickou hudbou s jazzovo znejúcimi dychmi, ktorých autorom najmä Kooper.
