I can't believe nobody has mentioned the best death metal EP ever, Bloodbath's "Unblessing the Purity." It was released just prior to TFM and, if you guys haven't heard it, please give it a listen and thank me later. It's Akerfeldt, Axenrot and the boys delivering just under twenty minutes of the catchiest, heaviest death metal you'll ever hear. The new record kills, too

I am a HUGE bloodbath fan and that EP is my favourite release although it only has 4 tracks. Sick Salvation is just insanely atmospheric while still fast and brutal, mouth of empty praise is groovy, but still sounds dark and perfect, weak aside has one of the best intros ever done and also has some nice, fast riffs and blasting the virginborn is just all the aggression of brutal/oldschool/blackened death metal in 1 track.

I think that the reason Bloodbath has been succesful as a Super Group is because they only work sporadically, pretty much is a side project that only does is thing when the member are tired of their main projects, an dthey barely tour so there's not much time for ego battles to star emerging, also gonna see them live in 2 weeks on Mexico Metal Fest is going to be a blast

Ngl, this album was a very pleasant surprise to me with just how heavy & vicious it is. I admittedly wasn't the biggest fan of Nick era Bloodbath, but man... he absolutely killed it on this record 🔥 I also really dig the production, especially the drum sound.

I'm not the biggest fan of this band, though I have a couple of records of the time Mike was on vocals, but what a surprise to discover that it's Nick Holmes himself doing vocals in this growling way like he used to do in the firs Paradise Lost era. Looking forward to hear the whole album.

It's interesting that Nick still does those vocals. Have you heard Gregor's vocals in Vallenfyre and Strigoi? If Paradise Lost had wanted to go back to harsh vocals earlier, they definitely could have with Gregor. But it's fantastic that Nick still has it in him and does them so well. He also has such a fantastic signature voice. He sounds like an old occult priest.

I’d say there’s a case to be made that Bloodbath are THE quintessential death metal band. Born in the 2nd wave but with the influences of the 1st wave distilled to songwriting near-perfection. Intense vocal performances no matter the singer, furious riffing, solid rhythm section and art/presentation that fully engages the listener. Everything you could possibly look for in this genre, in my humble opinion.

Can you please do a review on the album Self Tilted by Bentvalve. It’s my dad‘s old end end someone found five songs of his and posted it about a year ago. They’re a band from the late 90s and early 2000’s. I’m trying to get my dad‘s music listened to as much as possible before he is no longer with us. While I liked Bloodbath's 2018 "The Arrow of Satan is Drawn" just fine, I think this is a better, more engaging listen. The songs are more flushed out and interesting, and having some cool guests on the album never hurts either. No God Before Me is such a massive closer too.

Josh Church: Bloodbath are actually paying homage to the Florida Death Metal sound of the 90's. Morrisound studios bands like Obituary, Morbid Angel etc... Basically albums produced by Scott Morris

I'd say 4, 1. RTC 2.Nightmares and 3. Grand Morbid Funeral just slightly top it when it comes to the full lengths, in total Unblessing the purity is IMO still their best release (they have only great stuff though so any order of their 8 releases fits)
