I really do like how the wrecked walls frame the moon in the Orphan's arena, but the wide open sea just looks better. An expanse of the unknown, untouched by man, belonging entirely to what lies below. The design philosophy of From Software and all of these touches they add to their zones and how it adds to the world's story is precisely why so many people crave a sequel. What other ideas do they have? And what of those new ideas that never meet the cut will lie hidden in obscure bits of code?
@bingbingwahoo4 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree that the lack of walls in the release version of the coast looks a lot better. Though there are still the obvious invis walls, it gives a feeling of openness that makes the fight with Orphan seem a lot more grand. It makes me wonder, thinking about Ebrietas's majorly altered role from apparent major antagonist to lore figure and optional boss, and various other bits from the outdated and scrapped story what the old progression of areas in earlier concepts was. This is just off the top of my head, but it seems like we might have once gone down into the Chalice Dungeons right from Byrgenwerth, and had them as main story areas in the search for the Great Ones, after defeating Ebrietas we would incur the fearful wrathof the Moon Presence(the cowardly thing uses humans as slaves to systematically hunt its brethren, after all) and face it in the Lake of Mud to free ourselves from the nightmare, or something like that. The earlier story segments would be building up events revolving around Byrgenwerth, the major players among Willem and his pupils that spread out amongst the factions in greater detail than the scraps of the final game. We'd also see more on the Healing Church and subsidiaries' founding and grave mistakes, and the destruction wrought by their search for insight using Pthumeru and Loran as grim demonstrations. It makes a lot of sense that these plots had much more to them at another time but ultimately never made it intact. This is just my slapdash take on it though lol

In terms of lore it makes sense that you go to the chalices from the dream since they are the metaphysical representation of the actual labarynth, but it definitely would have been cool to visit the actual tombs and maybe get to see where it all began instead of the places we do go, which appear to be built from second-hand information and unreliable memories of the real locations.

@@Big_Dai Yes. But that's not relevant to my previous statements. I was simply expressing my understanding of the in-game logic for why there aren't entrances to the labarynth available to discover in the world, and instead require us to visit them through chalice rituals. (Also it's a roleplaying game, and you as the player can choose what motivations your character has for coming to Yharnam and what interests them while they explore the city. Which is one of the main reasons they decided to forgo the "illness storyline" in favor of the more vague but infinitely more flexible "find Plaeblood". Saying it doesn't matter because the character doesn't care is reductive and inaccurate considering you are talking to someone who played a character who actively chose to become a Tomb Prospector.)

I will always be sad that the Lake of Mud is not in the final game. Just imagine it. After hours spent toiling through the depths of the chalice dungeons, through the grime and the darkness, after descending further and further down into the hidden depths of the earth, further down than mankind was meant to venture. Imagine after all the hintertombs, after picking your way down through Pthumeru, through Loran, through Isz, after all the curses and the fetid and the rotted offerings, after discovering Ihyll and slaying the monarch of this forgotten civilization and then venturing even lower. Just imagine riding that final elevator down and into a small chapel, imagine pushing open a heavy set of doors and walking out onto a rough stretch of sand beneath a moody and darkened sky, crumbled ruins and featureless waves extending out to the horizon. What did you expect to find down here? Monsters? Secrets? Treasures? Any of those would have satisfied you, would have fulfilled your rabid curiosity and desire to uncover the truth. But you did not expect to find this. Not a Lake of Mud and an open sky somehow buried beneath the whole of the world. This place can't exist this far underground. It _can’t_. Perhaps you really are going crazy after all. Perhaps you shouldn't have gathered so much insight, shouldn't have delved so deep. You do your best to shake it off and return to your hunt, putting the Lake of Mud behind you. But that knowledge will stay at the back of your mind like an itch for the rest of your life: The world is not how you think it is. It could have been such an excellent revelation.

The moment that music hit, after playing demon's and dark souls getting used to no music being present outside of boss fights, I thought I had broken something or discovered an area I wasn't supposed to be in. Maybe it was meant to be the "real" ending after beating the game, so that after getting all the endings, players can then continue on in the chalice dungeons and get one more eldritch discovery of the MP's Waking World form.

Don't the files for some of these things reference Demon's Souls? I could have sworn reading that some of Bloodborne's file names are literally "Demon's_Souls_2" in some places. I bring it up because the so-called "Lake of Mud" looks a LOT like the place you go to at the bottom of the Nexus during the ending of Demon's Souls, only without The Old One. The cut Moon Presence boss is roughly where The Old One was, only a lot smaller. A LOT smaller. I dunno if the idea back in the "original" version would have been that the Moon Presence was our Demon's Souls PC, who turned into. That. Like King Allant. That specific form of the Moon Presence's moveset is sorta similar to the true King Allant, in the way it just sorta crawls around and flails. Or the Moon Presence was the Maiden in Black, left behind when The Old One left or went back to sleep. ...Heck, for all I know, they weren't even *that* specific about what it all mean, they just decided "hey, what if the Werewolf/Lovecraft game we're publishing with Sony just had the final boss arena from Demon's Souls, the other game we published with Sony in it, but we don't explain why" "dude, that's brilliant". And then they cut it. Either way, I'm surprised Lance didn't bring up the Demon's Souls connection, considering I'm like 99% sure what I've read is that there definitely is one, in the file, object and variable names themselves?

Well, it was initially to be a sort of sequel to Demon's Souls, but i can't say for certain Yet, there are instances where references are mentioned(I haven't played Demon's Souls, so sorry if what I might say is innacurate) But Gascoigne had a dubbed(possibly subbed) dialogue line that ended with Umbasa, and I quote: "Sick creature... May you rest in peace, Umbasa." And in the cut story(aka what bloodborne used to be before, i'll send you a link to the video) In the description of that video(i also recommend you watch it, but if you've already seen it, my bad!), there is a link to some scripts to voice lines and dialogue, and one of them ended with Anbasa/Umbasa(i can't remember for sure, sorry!) Which leads me to believe that these references are just more than an Easter Egg and possibly something more to explain the story kzbin.info/www/bejne/onzbf36Ydrignsk

I don't think so this is just how game development works, the reason it looks like the game wasn't finished is they didn't clean up the files very well when they were the done.
@scion95884 жыл бұрын
@@Anteatereatingants I feel like some of the things were seemingly cut more for "technical" reasons than "artistic" ones though. Like that one shortcut door from the Great Bridge in Central Yharnam to Cathedral Ward that Lance has showed off a few times definitely looks like it was cut mostly because they couldn't get the loading and asset streaming to work right. Part of me wondered if some of the stuff about the "Unfinished Tale" in Déraciné is just Salt about all the stuff they *couldn't* do.

Just because a game has cut content doesn’t mean it was stuff that wasn’t able to be implemented because of time/budget constraints. Sometimes cut content was cut for a reason. Creating an early draft and then changing things (sometimes completely) as development goes on is just a part of the creation/design process.

It's a shame they didn't repurpose this design for the old hunters DLC, the barnacles are such a nice touch. Ultimately though, they probably had realized that Kos wouldn't so easily be washed ashore with the barrier in place, so they gave up on it.
@nackskott124 жыл бұрын
Maybe it would have worked better if the wall was there, but it had crumbled enough for a hole to allow Kos to pass through? Then again, given the Fishing Hamlet was in fact, in the business of fishing, I suppose it doesn't make sense for them to try to keep out things from the sea. It makes more sense that this would happen in Isz, Loran or Pthumeru, but since that wasn't the context of the DLC, I can see why it was cut yet again in the Old Hunters. It's just a shame we didn't see a location where the people realized the water harbours Great Ones, and thus decided to build a giant wall to keep out unwanted cosmic horrors. If we had the chance to visit one of the ancient lands like Pthumeru, maybe that would have been included?

Every game is “incomplete” in the sense that massive parts of any design document is cut for one reason or another. The reason for that is you want to go into development with more than you need - same goes for movies, where you shoot alternate scenes while you're still figuring out the final layout. Games can have entire pre-production phases where everything worked on for the first 3 months of development is cut completely.
