I love Valec because he represents a future for Selwyn. As much as I didn't love the cliff hanger I am looking forward to the conclusion. Of destroying the lines, the regents, mastering her powers and then killing the Hunter. I love that dynamic that he's training her so one day when she does die he can claim her power. Damn that was amazing. But she destroys her ancestral stream reminds me of Korra when all the avatar lines ended.

I still hate Korea to this day for ending those lines, but Bree actually had a reason. This book had me screaming 😔

Yes! Reading this was in a way therapeutic, just witnessing Bre learn about her past and having the opportunity to connect with her ancestors just tugged at my heart and I was so happy for her. I also love the idea of root craft and the connection and comfort it brings to the practitioners.

Yes to everything!!! I truly feel so blessed to be able to read about Bree's journey. The way this books deals with her grief, trauma, expectations, but also her friendships and most importantly Bree coming to terms with her OWN power is sooo interesting and thoughtful! All the while having this amazing magic system and beautiful characters.Truly one of my favorite series I read in quite some time. ALSO everything involving Alice at the end.... I was BROKEN. I can't wait for the next one!!!!

I’m so glad they brought Natasia in for Book 3!! Also we have so much to learn about the Kane’s prodigy. The way he was able to keep Bee alive and then do aether fireworks with the comment “I thought you could only forge weapons”. There’s gotta be something there….

omg thank you for putting literally all of my thoughts out there in a coherent way. This book was so incredible that i didn't even know where to start but this was a PERFECT summary of all i was thinking and feeling while reading. I especially love how you talk specifically about the obscene racism and discrimination in the book instead of simply talking about the romance and magic aspects (looking at you Simon ;( ). I can't wait for the next book!

I finished legendborn yesterday and completed Bloodmarked today and I expected more from the second book. The caption marked control was not about control I thought she was going to get control of her powers but that happened at the end of the book as a cliff hanger. I loved the fact paced, twist and inter related storylines. But it was so many things happen that much of it was fleshed out like the first

I loved your review. I just finished BM and I agree with so much of what you said. I really did enjoy the ending as well. The revelations of the magic systems woven into Black/American history has been so well done by Tracy. I am eager to see the developments in the side characters now that they know the truth. It’s time to see who will really show up for Bree and stand for justice over power. Also, I wanna see more action/battles but I feel like a lot more deaths are coming and this one may make me cry.

Thanks for posting this. I remember reading legendborn and only your video popped up when I looked for other people who read or reviewed it. I loved Alice becoming a baddAzz and I get the feeling she's going to become even more special. I am shameless for Sel💓 I think you're right Bri deserves grace. I forgot she was only 16. I need book three like right now 😔 Ioved her talk with Samira.

This book was far and away the best sequel i’ve read in a while, in addition to being one of the best books this year. Definitely deserves 45+ minutes of pure praise. Also your review style was excellent!

I don't think that she's under his control, they've made a new bargain that is mutually beneficial. he was always going to kill her in this generation or the next. She's the only one that is claiming all the powers so the while powerhouse so her line or the bargain was gonna end with her. Plus didn't she renounced Arthur and didn't claim the oath but remained his scion.

i just finished bloodmarked and your review was the first thing i watched afterwards! i know how much you love this series and i loved all your thoughts, you voiced so many of mine. the regents as the villains was eerily telling. the sel bree and nick chapter was so sweet. i also lost my shit when i thought she actually killed alice for a second. waiting for the next installment in this series is going to be torture, i need to know what happens with alice and sel and bree with the Hunter.

Think of Valec as a loa Papa Legba type character, but not quite as devilish. When you talk about dismantling "the system" I would like for readers to also consider and examine the statement being made that the entire world hinges on powerful white people maintaining power. Deonn is clearly making references to the idea that so much of the modern real world is built on European ideologies, systems and sensibilities. It could be seem as a fantasy world version of white paternalism or even the white man's burden. Could demons represent the non-white other in our real world? The non-white other that white people have to tame and bring into order. The non-white other that can only be civilized by introducing white blood (50/50 cambion human)? I don't know. These are all just ideas flooding in after having completed this book and hearing the way other people received it.

I certainly think that could be the case. Especially since that’s how Sel and Bree are able to finally connect after the hounds because she realises that he’s basically like her. Seen as other and a threat to what’s the norm but useful for now. Which I think is how she empathised with him even after like cough cough trying to kill her.
