I see in some of the other comments some criticism of Ben's decision to eliminate one of the evil teams, however in the beginning of the game Ben said that it was a very chaotic setup, and just as a reminder, the evil team had the ability to poison, protect, and kill EACH day/night cycle all together. It would have been too easy for an already-underpowered good team to be completely blocked out of the game by coordination of the witch and DA, creating a situation where town nominates the demon and then dies, the demon is somehow voted for with dead votes, survives, and then the cycle repeats again the following day, forcing a town loss. It's the ST's job to prevent locks like that from happening, and Chris was the most crucial role for that to happen. I think that what happened was that evil was leaning too much on the 'given' that they were protected by the ST and ended up being so powerful that they painted themselves into the corner - if Simon had actually switched teams the night he targetted Emma, the disruption would have been enough for evil to get Nicky to nominate and force a loss. Also, big props to Nicky for not triggering a witch proc for three days. :D

Also Chris if left alive could've convinced Kat and Emma to move lil monsta onto a good player DA protect them. Then next night move both lil monsta and DA protection back onto himself and rinse and repeat until the end of the game. DA's too powerful when the demon can move around town

It's weird that people seem to think that nixing the DA is what got Evil done in when in reality it was Simon's bluff and nightly picks plus Evil unwittingly putting the baby in the hands of the one unchecked player.

@Clumbob3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if the intention was to make things more even, then killing Kat would finally give Good access to information without totally ruining the advantages Evil had gained by making Chris look trustworthy. Killing Chris just completely negated all the strong Evil moves they had made so far. With no control over who dies at night, building trust is pretty much the ONLY game they have available to themselves as minions. They shouldn't have to also worry that doing their job TOO well will just have the storyteller tell them they're not allowed to play the game that way.

Evil went into the final day with 50% of the alive players. That's a stronger position than 90% of all the games I've ever run. I'm by no means perfect or above making mistakes (who is, right?) But I think people don't realise just how ridiculously difficult this game is to run. You have to make split-second decisions over and over again in Blood on the Clocktower and running it makes D&D feel like Snakes & Ladders in comparison to the difficulty of GMing the two. Sometimes you gotta make a call and stick with it. Fortunately, most of the people I've run for understand this. Nevertheless, cheers for the constructive criticism. I'm always learning! - Ben

@@BloodontheClocktower Don't misunderstand I get that. It was more just that it was your choice that lead to that ending. But again I get it, thats a tightrope to walk without drastically influencing one way or another. The same could have been said if Evil won in the end, that you had made decisions to back their plays. I don't mean to sound like I was trying to say you did anything wrong. It was just how this game went. You still did a good job and the video was great.
@LifeUntilLove3 жыл бұрын
I mean, this is just a problem with this demon. The storyteller makes all the kill choices so there is both no clever/lucky critical kill or a complete misfire. In this game, Kat was on fire with her poisons and it left Good in a position where they had little information and what they had was all poisoned without knowing it might be a Vigormortis/Vortox game. By the time the choice came up, killing Kat would give Good no information unless Simon still charmed demon Emma. And I think it is important to remember how much Ben played into Evil's bluffs, particularly how Chris had a ready-made bluff from day 1. I think it all balances out at the end, which is something I didn't agree with when I first started watching these.
@TheLastSane12 жыл бұрын
@@LifeUntilLove Even looking at this 9 months later. This game was still very much hinging on Ben killing Chris at point. I think Ben just kinda got used to DA being this super powerful role at endgame because in other games without the ST being the one picking kills the DA and the Demon can make it nearly impossible for good to win. But he was the one picking deaths. And just looking back the moment they woke up with Chris dead the good team immediately found the correct world view and took the win. It was that decision that was to keyhole that got good the win. But thats the danger of the Lil' Monsta and other demons that let the ST kill, they are making choices from a top down view of the game worrying about balance rather than the demon trying to get a win. Its just a different view of the game I really like the Lil' Monsta mechanic but its definitely not a boon to the evil team.
@matthewdaunt29043 жыл бұрын
It was so close to being a perfect game for the evil team, with good plays throughout. But like a drive down a country road in winter, it was only a matter of time before a patch of black ice sent the evil team spinning into a tree. Calm serenity replaced by devastation as control slipped from their grasp. If only every game could be so close.
@EdsonR132 жыл бұрын
A perfect evil team game should never exist in a little monster game if it did the story teller wouldnt be doing a very good job. Kat was hard carrying the team with her insane poisoner skills, the other two had some good early plays but kinda fell flat after.
@mattclemson Жыл бұрын
It's a year old, but just to be on a safe side, spoiler space... So there's been lots of talk about the endgame, but I was kinda frustrated about something that *wasn't* the Chris kill decision: The logic that was deployed to pin Kat for the final execution was *inherently wrong*! Given the ability timing, L'il Monsta moves *after* Snake Charmer takes their turn, so just because Emma didn't appear to have L'il Monsta at the point that the charm attempt went through didn't necessarily mean that she hadn't received it after that point, with everyone still pretty convinced she was confirmed evil! I *think* that was a potential avenue for Evil to win, ultimately, but it would have been a tricky needle to thread.

With the amnesiac, could you have them have an ability that you use once, say make one player mad about being their actual role, and just ask them "would you like to use your ability?" and they can say yes or no without knowing what the consequences are?
@BloodontheClocktower3 жыл бұрын
You absolutely could. In fact, you could have their ability be some kind of passive thing that is triggered on one very specific event. However, it's important to keep in mind that the Amnesiac ought to be able to stand some chance of guessing what their ability does. So if you're going to do this, keep that in the back of your mind. Make it somewhat detectable. Ultimately, it's in the guessing of the ability that the Amnesiac player will find their fun. - Ben

You also have to consider Ben is trying to be fair with wording. When the amnesiac originally Bingo'd it, Ben made the call to tell him the exact wording because it was so close. When the Amnesiac later asked for a recap, Ben gave him the answer to his question and they both seemed sure that it cleared up the confusion, and the same happened when he told Nicky about it.

with the Party Animal having the demon act last wouldn't the minion holding the Lil' Monsta act last. Because it says the demon acts last, which a minion holding the Lil' Monsta 'is the demon'. Obviously it would suck if it was ruled like this and the poisoner had to pick last at night and can really only do things to players who do stuff the following day.

Never help good. Evil will just loose it in the end.
@Baalslegion07 Жыл бұрын
After watching way too many of these streams and all the NRB ones, I must agree with this. I get that its hard making these decisions and you certainly dont want your good players to almost certainly loose due to your decision, basicly giving them no chance, but in case of Lil' Monsta I must say helping good is always a bad option, unless its 3 evil players and only 2 good ones left. Zhe evil team starts this game with a heavy disadvantage and its absurdly easy to just fuck up as an evil player and ruin the entire game for your team, with no chance of saving it. The good team starts with more voting power, often no need to lie so they konda know at least some of their trustworthy people and some townsfolk roles are just WAAAAY too good in comparison to what some similiar evil roles get. This game was enjoyable to watch, up until the last few moments where it just felt like the good team got their victory handed to them by the DM. I get this game is hard to play and even harder to DM, but if thats the case, maybe just prepare a few more guidelines for yourself. It's what I do when I DM my d&d campaign too - I think of a few options my villains will use as soon as the players do something unexpected. Basicly a failsafe if stuff severely doesn't go as planned. In BOCT its way harder to do this, but something like "never kill evil players as the DM" isn't such a hard or complicated one. I mean Ben said it himself before he did it "Always when you ssy the evil team is winning, and help the good team, they find a way to shit the bed". Maybe just learn from that experience, since to me it seems moreso that evil simply cant do shit when the good team also gets DM help. Also, I think the DA was a premature pick. Maybe if he killed a good player then and killed the DA the night after that could have made this mlre balanced, but basicly removing the failsafe evil team got when there still was some decent voting power left in town kinda wasn't the smartest move. Also, just on a side note, I think Lil' Monsta is kinda unbalanced. Maybe giving that demon some sort of poisoning ability, when being babysat by a good player or turning a good player evil for the time they babysit Lil' Monster without telling them they babysit the demon would be a fun addition (the second option basicly giving the evil team the ability to choose a trusted or powerful townsfolk as an ally somewhere in the game, akin to marrionette, who then always has to be the demon so that they stay evil). I think robbing the evil team of the ability to choose who dies kinda sucks, so they need something very powerful in return

If the Cannibal is poisoned when someone is executed, do they still gain the executed character’s ability?
@BloodontheClocktower3 жыл бұрын
If the Cannibal is poisoned from their own ability (i.e. if an evil player was executed previously, poisoning the Cannibal) then the Cannibal would become unpoisoned when a good player is executed (and dies) and they would gain that ability. However, if the Cannibal is poisoned for some other reason when a different player is executed, the Cannibal would not gain that ability. The Storyteller is free to pretend to the Cannibal that they *have* gained that ability, but if the Cannibal later becomes unpoisoned then they would revert back to having whatever ability they had before they were poisoned. - Evin

I did have an idea for an Outsider Role Reporter Each Night* pick two players you learn one role between them. The demon learns this choice and role as well. Would be great for giving info to the Good Team but also lets the Demon know there are powerful roles in play. If you pick Kat and Pat and learn Empath, then so did the demon so know he knows there is an Empath in play and among which two players.
