I have been WAITING for another reaction to this from you!! Louis’ mama’s homophobia made me so mad, and of course the fact that she threw guilt onto him for his brother’s death when he had nothing to do with it. He had been taking care of her and the whole family, financially and otherwise, and all she can do is make him feel bad about who he is. Loved your reaction, can’t wait for more! ❤😊

This is a great underrated show. It’s definitely Emmy worthy. The acting is top tier, cinematography and writing amazing. Season 2 amps it up even more. Enjoy the ride and let the tale seduce you 😏❤

Louis calling himself a "botched vampire" is so interesting to me. At the same time as his reluctance to kill gives him a sense of moral superiority over other vampires, he also sees it as a flaw in himself...

To answer your question: When they were fighting, Louis said FU, and Lestat said, "F*CK YOU TOO" in french. Also, you are THE ONLY reactor that I have seen who called out Levvy's lazy arse when the babies were crying. Like, mf, go check on your own damn twins bc the third one is about to be munched on by their uncle!!

I mean some French people have said the more correct/direct way to translate what Lestat said was more so like "Make up your mind!" Not quite "Fuck you too!"... But I suppose the sentiment is still the same... It's an angry exclamation at the end of a fight to try and get in the last word. 🤷‍♀️

17:10 yeah, exactly. When blood is shared consensually within Anne Rice's vampire world... Humans experience something called the blood swoon (also vampires sharing blood with each other experience the same thing)... Basically it just feels really really really really really good. But also additionally non-consensual blood drinking can be very very painful. Blood drinking is essentially a metaphor for sexual intercourse within Anne Rice's vampires... It's a thing within a lot of vampire lore. She definitely wasn't the first one to come up with this metaphor. But yeah Damek must have been someone who has been drunk from a LOT... The fact that he was able to hold a whole conversation with Daniel is interesting... A human who is new to giving a vampire their blood probably would get completely swept up in the moment like Louis was the first time Lestat drank from him. Louis most likely didn't notice that they were floating in that scene. So yeah the fact that Louis seemed to have a kind of good friendship relationship with Damek and the fact that Damek was able to kind of stay coherent throughout the blood sharing means that Louis' drunk from him quite often, probably.

Makes sense! I was curious as to what Damek was getting out of this so glad to see he’s getting his fix so to speak, even if it means he’s stumbling out of the room lol! I wonder where Louis found him and others like him that agree to this. Maybe Louis’s assistant finds them for Louis.

12:41 yeah, the fact that Lestat is a European man is kind of an important detail... At this point in history there absolutely was still racism within France at the time... But it absolutely did function differently than the racism in the US does... It was like a different flavor of racism, if you will. And so Louis is really trying to explain the exact way in which racism functions within the US specifically within the South and Lestat just can't really wrap his head around it very well.... Because he is white but also additionally because racism is different in France at this time in history.... Like in episode 1 Lestat is kind of REALLY surprised at how fucking horribly the other white men around Louis treat him. And how they think of him as a person. They treat him significantly worse than black men would be treated in France at the time(and also when Lestat lived as a human in France). It's a really interesting way that they're showing that there are a BUNCH of different ways that Lestat fundamentally cannot understand Louis experience. Because it was the same in the books when they were both white men. Louis has this connection to humanity that he is desperately trying to keep hold of ...that Lestat just does NOT experience and he doesn't understand why Louis can't think the way he does and completely let go of humanity as a vamp... There are aspects of Louis' personality that Lestat fundamentally does not understand and so adding the additional nuance of race to their relationship is REALLY interesting and it like strengthens the themes that are in the source material, IMO. Adds extra depth to them! It was an extremely smart choice that the writer's room made. To add an additional layer of miscommunication and misunderstanding in their relationship by making them interracial.... Because in the show Louis cannot separate himself from humanity in a very tangible way because humanity will ALWAYS see him as a black man and Lestat can't understand that. In Lestats mind vampirism was supposed to fix ALL of Louis' problems ...and it doesn't....in the show and it didn't in the book for similar reasons but yeah the show adds race to it as well. Excellent change, IMO.

Really well said and explained! I’m glad as well they decided to make this an interracial relationship and highlight not ignore Louis’s blackness and what that means for Louis in this time period and for Louis and Lestat’s relationship dynamics.

Yeah, the word fledgling mainly exists within the animal kingdom like that's where it's more commonly used and it's specifically references baby birds... So yeah the maker/fledgling relationship usually is kind of more parental. I mean maker and fledgling can also have a romantic relationship with each other, as we see with these two... it's not like a strictly platonic within Anne Rice's vampires (but they're absolutely are some Vamps out there who do have a platonic maker/fledgling relationship) but the origin of the word is a more parental/child thing. Like Lestat is moreso calling him a baby/child than a slave. But yeah I can see why Louis had the reaction that he did, as well. Lol... Fledgling can absolutely be used in like a condescending way and the fact that Lestat was using the word during an argument that they were having leaves a weird taste in your mouth, for sure. Lmao.

Loving your reactions so far! Lestat wasn't saying he's never changed anyone else before, just that there's no one else quite like Louis. He was just sweettalking him. Lestat's a charming mf for sure. But I never know whether he's actually ignorant regarding the impact of the racism Louis faces every day or if he's just playing up his ignorance cause it gives him more power over Louis... re: why Daniel's so jaded? Based on the ad for his class in episode 1, he's been an investigative reporter since the 70s, looking into things people didn't want him to look into and dealing with people trying to bullshit him or threaten him into silence the whole way. Add to that a long time as a drug addict and going through 2 divorces, and... yeah, he's a little cynical.

Its really important to acknowledge that its Daniel who makes that master/slave comment but Lestat has never and will never look at Louis as anything but a whole person with all the potential in the world and the love of his life. He doesn't think of him as lesser or inferior to him. He never refers to himself as his master either. (However there is a character that does refer to themselves as master later in the series and the dynamic is much different than what you're seeing here) Its also important to note that the 1973 book and the 1994 movie Louis is white and its set in the 1790s where Louis is a plantation owner and has slaves. They changed his race for the TV show and moved up the time line to give this narrative a new perspective. Race is used to add an additional layer of Louis' constant feelings of isolation. So even tho race does play a part outside of their relationship its doesnt play one amongst themselves (because it wouldn't if Louis was still being played by a white actor). Also Louis is the poster child for brooding emo vamps, Angel and Edward are amateurs compared to Louis. So when they're keeping up "appearances" outside of the french quarter its about keeping Louis safe not about demeaning him. He's not upset about being Lestat's valet he's still brooding about his nephew, the disconnect from his family and him never having a family of his own. Which is why Lestat mentions how loneliness is the hardest part about being a vampire. If you rewatch the moment right before Louis attacks dude he mentioned that he no longer has to put up with their racial ignorance that had become so normal for him and being a vampire changes how he deals with them now. Something Lestat actually wanted for Louis despite it not being an easy fix for the discrimination Louis is still forced to deal with.

Yeah as others have said Lestat has turned 2 other people before louis... But also nobody else has mentioned Lestat had an extremely extremely BAD introduction to vampirism... So he's just kind of like testing out HOW to introduce it to the fledglings that he makes because he was... Very much thrown into the deep end and wasn't given a lot of explanation as to what his new life would be as a vampire. And so with Louis he's taking kind of like a casual, kinda flippant route... It's a really interesting detail that you picked up on most people don't catch that tbh!
@AnxietyRat
@AnxietyRat 3 ай бұрын
@kathydewhirst5528 I'm only mentioning it because I saw MULTIPLE people already confirm it... So he's most likely already been spoiled... I didn't give any specific details I just said that Lestat has turned people before... Which is why he was acting like he has turned people before... He also did ask. 🤷‍♀️ I think if people ask for spoilers in their videos... it's okay to spoil tiny details like that especially if you aren't actually giving any explicit details. I didn't say any names. I just vaguely mentioned that he has shared the gift previous to sharing it with Louis. He hasn't explicitly asked for zero spoilers. Some reactors do ask for that. And I respect it. But there absolutely are reacters here on KZbin who are okay with tiny spoilers and clarifications. So until this guy straight up says I do not want ANY spoilers... People are going to spoil. Sometimes people even spoil even if people explicitly asked for no spoilers and that's just being an asshole. What I did wasn't inherently being an asshole... Because clarification was asked for. But I guess we can agree to disagree.

I get where you're coming from, but you could ask rather than assume a reaction youtuber is okay with spoilers. there's no coming back from some spoilers although I don't think this specific one is that big of a deal. but I'd certainly prefer watching a non-spoiled reaction if possible
@AnxietyRat
@AnxietyRat 3 ай бұрын
@lascibyx sure, but also that's your opinion. YOU prefer to watch people who are completely non-spoiler. I don't inherently agree. I'm totally okay to watch people who do enjoy tiny spoilers like the one that I shared. It doesn't affect the way that they're consuming the show in my opinion because I consume shows in the exact same way ...I'm pretty lax on spoilers and I still VERY much enjoy what I'm watching. It enhances my watching experience most of the time. And it's okay that we disagree. It's just a difference in reacter preference. Preferring complete blindness or being okay with clarifications and tiny details explained so that theory crafting doesn't go completely off the rails. I've watched this guy for a couple of years now and he does usually seem to be pretty chill about spoilers like the one that I shared that is super vague doesn't share specific details but does clarify things slightly. Especially if he doesn't specifically state that it was a hypothetical question/talking out loud...So yeah I'm not a completely new watcher who knows absolutely nothing about how this reacter likes to engage with their audience. 🤷‍♀️
