The issue with this is sometimes you need a lot of other knowledge in order to proceed to other levels and some of the lower levels are easier learned when you have access to the higher level methods. It's kinda like Maslow, it's a good simplification, but is it too simple? Likely.
@ColonelKlank5 жыл бұрын
You are correct! Empirical knowledge would allow for moving through the pyramid more rapidly. When your Empirical knowledge and IQ are sufficient, you may simply leap the normal bounds and arrive at an answer which is the true definition of the word "Genius".

It’s was created in 1956 not 1946…. The first volume of the taxonomy, Handbook I: Cognitive was published in 1956, and in 1964 the second volume Handbook II: Affective was published. A revised version of the taxonomy for the cognitive domain was created in 2001.

How can you understand without analyzing? Or rather: was this form of understanding meaningful? Moreover, we are always biased. I get that it is a useful heuristic but it is also very simplistic and scientifically disproven. Learning isn't a linear, computational process but a dynamic system. My suggestion/compromise would be: iteratively 1) Experience 2) Remember/recall 3) Reproduce (also a form of creating) 4) Deconstruct/analyze 5) Understand (but again, not a fan of such a sequential model which already looks like a pyramid scheme)

At 3:24 you mentioned that bloom's taxonomy was introduced in 1946, when in fact it was introduced in 1956. Writing this so that no one has to remember the wrong date for any further use of it. Other than that this is a perfect and very good explanation of bloom's taxonomy.

A better way for parents to help children in their progression of learning. Especially because children learn by procedure combined with experience easier.. You can tell them how to count numbers but if you use toys they understand.

This video is clear, articulate, and easy to understand as many Sprouts videos are, and I appreciate this. Regardless of this, I strongly disagree with Bloom's taxonomy. I believe that first off, rote memorization is /not/ the way to start. Second, no journey of learning is purely step-based, as mentioned at the end of the video. If you think of the engineering design process or similar methods, although they at first present with a step to step process, the actual implementation of the EDP is full of reiteration between the sets of steps. Likewise, the most effective ways of learning will move between understanding, applying, evaluating, and even low level creating, intersperesed with some rote memorization as needed. Although in some subjects, it may be useful to have a small amount of facts committed to memory, especially at the lower levels of education (kindergarten, pre-k, the first few grades of primary school), there should only be a tiny sliver of information that students are first taught to memorize before understanding. Even if any attempts at creating understanding are not completely successful, that amount of prep before attemping rote memorization still improves both the effectiveness of the memorization (better recall) as well as the quality of the material being remembered (still a better grasp). Additionally, multiple scientific studies* have shown the benefits of students attempting to solve problems, even if it is definitively out of their abilities, before being presented with the answer. Certainly, after engaging in action-based levels of learning in the applying, evaluating, and creating zones, it is necessary to clearly define and and solidify concepts and connections in the material being taught. Sorry, these are unfinished thoughts, and I engaged in another discussion and don't have the time to continue these arguments, but I hope that at least a few people see this and consider this viewpoint -- or, convince me otherwise! *I apologize, I tried to locate these studies but was unsuccessful. If requested, I'll embark upon a more thorough search.

Truly helpful as a guide for educators and learners, but in the complexities of life, the hierarchy and the chronological order of the six don't have to happen as is. 😁 Readiness to learn most of the time is affected by other factors that may either delay or advance the learning of some or more unique individuals with distinct learning styles. Example is when some learners tend to understand the basic thoughts after creating something out of it. 😃 Learning is always an exciting affair. 🤓

I find that I learn better if I know the "why" before I know the "what". I also learn best when I can apply hands-on experiments throughout the process. I definitely prefer rhizomatic learning to linear processes.
