Big agriculture has a bad reputation in sustainability circles. And while its economies of scale have lifted billions out of food poverty in the past century, it is one of the most-polluting industries on the planet. So is it time to reconsider how we farm, and whether yield is still king? In this episode: we highlight the startups pioneering new techniques - and the agricultural giants adopting them - in the race to new zero. Plus, do farming subsidies need reform? We speak to the former Chief Economist of the USDA.

@13:25 oatmilk and meatless meat will help replace the cattle/meat industry :) Milk consumption in the USA has steadily declined, though, it's still in the lead by a huge margin. This means that there is potential exponential growth in other sectors. Less suffering in the world.

12:00 come on! WTF with more plastic, more water, just so that Americans can keep over-consuming meat and dairy. Gross.

14:45 are you kidding me?? We have vastly changed agriculture. The native Americans did what we consider now “syntropic” farming. Then colonizers came and decided single crop farming was “more efficient.” Capitalism has taken that mentality to the extreme and now we have degraded our soil and released incredible amounts of carbon. All that not to even mention how new CAFOs are. We began feeding cattle corn in the late 1940s and the first CAFOs began in the 1950s. It’s not natural. It’s not sustainable. We need to eat less meat and dairy so it will stop.
