Payed nothing for a public defender and was satisfied with the results. Asked a lawyer to represent me and he wanted $6000 for the same service. Lawyers take advantage of the situation your in because they know your in a very bad and scary situation and if you don't know whats going on or what to do they will prey on it. Public defenders on the other hand don't get payed as much so they are doing their job out of their heart. Go with the lawyers who's motive is to help you, not for profit.

Wow, suddenly I just feel really bad for lawyers. Like, is there anything we, the general public, can do to help?

Competition is important, kill and eat or be killed. Big law salaries are high because associated jobs and work are highly competitive. People love the pay but hate the job. You can't have one without the other. We now live in a society where people appreciate and identify with the advantages of a thing and proceed to whine incessantly about the disadvantages of the same thing. Life is a tradeoff.

@ali19231 as someone who has both, I can say that an MBA is not worth more than a JD. Just don't accept an attorney position that requires more than 1800 billable hours, and you'll retain your quality of life. I actively avoid BigLaw as a career choice for that very reason.

Aren’t a lot of big law lawyers working from home now? You’re still grinding 70 hrs/week but at least you can spend some time with your spouse/kids.

You still have to bill at least 2300hrs a year, no matter where you work.

@@RenaissanceBoss I find 2300hrs from home is a lot easier on the mental health than having to commute to the office every day. Also gives me liberty to cook my own meals instead of buying overpriced foods or prepare lunches the night before, save money on gas and go to the gym when I want to.

Attorneys need to learn more Law and less procedures. They break the Law more than anyone. They don’t know the constitution.
