Not really! Professor Mohammed Yunus is one of the greatest individuals in the field of microfinancing, helping Bangladeshi people uplift themselves out of poverty. However, this documentary should have highlighted some points about the true judicial process or the active cases against Professor Mohammed Yunus. There might have been some minor issues that Professor Yunus has committed; otherwise, the government would not have taken action. Additionally, it would have been beneficial to highlight the laborers' perspective, explaining why they are protesting against Grameen Bank. There is a small but valid point there which has become invisible due to his significant contributions.

I read "Banker to the Poor". I don't have background in finance so I can't say how true the international organization (I forgot which one. It's IMF I think) counterpoint that microfinance cause middle income trap. But his services to the people of Bangladesh can't be denied. He lifted a lot of family out of poverty, lifted woman's right by making them enable to enter the workforce which makes them important breadwinner in the family hence reducing abuse by their husband, etc. It's a shame his life is muddled by politics.
@bluewarm49764 ай бұрын
I come from a similar developing country that adopted microfinance inspired by the Grameen Bank. While it is true that microfinance probably can't reduce poverty on its own, but is often the best option for the poor. The formal banks won't give any loans to the underbanked poor population due to the high risks. And these are banks that are backed by the government. microfinance is the only option they have, it is not perfect, but much needed. As a citizen from another Asian developing country that also has lots of issues today, it seems like the governments want to keep their poor people poor, uneducated citizens remain uneducated because this way, the govt can easily influence and manipulate them to get their votes.

@dr.strangelav45795 ай бұрын
Democracy has seen better days in Bangladesh no doubt. Dr. M Yunus efforts, though notable, did not effectively alleviate poverty on a large scale. Microfinance, touted as a solution, has often exacerbated economic challenges for the marginalized. Despite showcasing a few success stories in model villages, the reality on the ground remains grim. It is crucial, as a journalistic responsibility, to hear directly from microfinance clients and former clients, independently of his organization or affiliated NGOs. Their accounts reveal exploitation by credit agents who exploit their lack of education, often resorting to aggressive tactics to extract money. While the concept of microfinance is compelling, its execution frequently falls short. This raises important questions about its efficacy in poverty alleviation beyond isolated cases in countries like India, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Kenya.
@markp13335 ай бұрын
Micro finance is vulnerable to being exploited that’s is for sure. But the question is did Yunus exploit people. The answer is no. Grameen bank’s loans are capped at 20% which is far from being considered predatory.

So, instead of showing any actual detailed information about the cases against Yunus, you guys just showed what the two sides involved say against each other. This video isn't on the Controversial Cases Against Yunus, but on the aftereffects of the cases

Respected Audience, Today, we stand at a historic juncture where the student movement is no longer confined to a single country or nation. It has become a global uprising of the conscious civil society. This movement boldly exposes those who exploit national resources under the guise of politics to build their luxurious lives. Let it be clear-people are aware, and they understand everything. Bangladesh today stands as a stark example of how democracy can be misused to give rise to autocracy and fascism. For the past 15 years, a fascist regime has held the people captive. But the July uprising of this year has proven that when the people awaken, no force can suppress them. We envision a world where leaders are accountable and responsible. Powers like India, with its hegemonic tendencies, must understand that relationships with rulers do not equate to relationships with the people. A state that disregards the rights of its citizens can never sustain itself. The revolution of the masses will not stop. Our struggle will continue, our fight will persevere. Because the future we dream of is one of accountability, responsibility, and justice. So, let us unite. Let the student community and conscious citizens come together to propel this movement forward. Our mission is clear-to uproot injustice and oppression and build a beautiful, prosperous, and democratic future. Victory belongs to the people; victory belongs to justice! Thank you.

I think that there might be a mistake in translation in 8:27, as far as I understand, Hasina says "This is my question, nothing else" not "I don't need to answer to their questions". Although I could be mistaken

Irony is the one who is charging him for many things , herself should be charged for the same things and many more. She literally robbed our country of everything and fled leaving nothing

I strongly believe that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is behaving like a dictator, prioritizing her power above all else. Recently, she brutally killed nearly 1,000 students and injured 20,000 people in Bangladesh. On top of that, she has arrested 5,000 people in just one day. This level of oppression is horrifying. It's also appalling how shamelessly Hasina has pursued legal cases against a great person like Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Prize-winning visionary who has significantly contributed to poverty alleviation through microfinance. Yunus is one of the greatest minds in Bangladesh, and he deserves respect, not persecution. For the past ten years, Hasina has stolen votes and undermined the people's right to a fair election. This ongoing assault on democracy and human rights in Bangladesh cannot be ignored. The international community must take a stand against such authoritarianism and support those who fight for justice and freedom.
