Great tips on Dendrobiums 😊 I enjoyed your video. I too find Den phals easy to grow. Other types can be bit more challenging. Like black hair types. 😂

Great video! I live in Brisbane Australia. I’ve been growing orchids for 3 years. My young seedlings daudled along & now this year they have suddenly grown large pseudobulbs or canes. It seems that they have acclimated & now will grow to full potential.

Excellent, may they all bloom this year for you :)

Thanks Nicole, I have a magnification dendrobium (NI) that gets bright Eastern morning light until 11.30 am. It always flowers abundantly at the beginning of spring (after 5°C winter nights) and lives in leaf litter. Each month I add a banana skin to the litter in and elkhorn fern above it & I mounted the orchid to a fork in a paperbark tree. Winter are usually dry but summers often have 1-2 days/wk of rain here in Northern NSW Australia. .

Thanks Nicole, great tips on Dendrobium orchids. I grow mine in a south facing window that has lace curtains on them. I put small aquarium stones on the bottom of the outer pot so if any water drips in there the orchids get some humidity. 👏🥰💐

Nice and short to the point, I have some Den Phals that have not bloomed yet, so I place then in stronger light. I hope this summer I will see their flowers, especially the Dendrobium Vino Tinto. Have a great day Nicole.

I got the Dendrobium Hibiki (bracteosum x laevifolium) from J&L Orchids yesterday. It has a basal keiki growing on one of the canes and it's making another cane. The bloom grow in clusters during the summer but it can be at anytime during the year. From what I've researched so far, it would prefer warm and humid conditions. I was looking for another easy care Dendrobium like the kingianum.
@NicoleDeanna3 ай бұрын
The kingianum is so easy and vigorous. I recommend it if you want a den that's not too fussy, yet also fragrant :)

@@NicoleDeanna Got one in February and recently it made a new cane in no time.

Mine are quite tall and less than pencil thick at the base: it’s amazing they were flowering so generously straight from the stems (pseudobulbils?). Haven’t flowered again so I’ve given one a bit of a temperature shock outdoors to stimulate cytokinins for flowering. Also cutting back on warning.
@NicoleDeanna28 күн бұрын
Hopefully you'll get the blooms going. In the summer I make sure they get plenty of water and warmth but I'm the winter usually I let them harden off a bit.
@TerryMcGearyScotland28 күн бұрын
@@NicoleDeanna Yes I think so. I was too kind and got keikis which at least let me practise propagation.I may put the parents outside in the expected cooler weather this week but I don't want to get them wet either.

Love this! (I have a Nobile on my wishlist!) And would also love if you share your thoughts on compact-type (or species-specific?) Dendrobium care. I currently (only) own the aggregatum (lindleyi) and laevifolium, so loved seeing the cameo of your aggregatum. lol. 💚

Hi Nicole! Thanks for the video. One of my dendrobium nobiles that I purchased March 2023 came to me with buds and grew two new canes that bloomed for me this past March. Two new canes grew this Spring and they already have terminal leaves. Just like you, I grow my plants in my NYC apartment. The heat of Summer is here. I'm guessing that I need to stop the fertilizer and reduce watering. What are your thoughts?
@NicoleDeanna2 ай бұрын
Interesting, terminal leaves and no new growths? This is usually the time they need fertilizer but sometimes they take a while to adapt to home conditions from the green house conditions that trick them to bloom. I would just fertilize them so they can get in sync with the rest of the collection :)
@lisaallen72193 ай бұрын
Thanks very much for the tips.🎉 What kind of dendrobium are from Australia? Your dendrobium kinginuam is huge do they normally get that big?
@NicoleDeanna3 ай бұрын
Speciosum and Kingianum are two that come to mind that are super hardy. The Bigibbum is another one but that one is warmer growing and requires care for more Den Phal type :) My Kingianum hybrid isn't super huge - you should see some of my others lol.
