Beautiful kingianum dens! I am so excited that they do not require cool winter season. It is such an important feature for the indoor environment when the temperatures are more or less consistent all year round.
@NicoleDeanna2 ай бұрын
Definitely! They do need a drop at night though at minimum though. I find it's easy to do that because the lights heat the grow space up and they cool down when they turn off and I crack a window open :)

Nice big Kingianums! I grow a couple and a couple delicatums and a couple speciosums. I used to grow the kingianum in bark mix but moved them to a rock,charcoal,perlite mix about 18 months ago and they are doing much better. they don't seem to like wet feet or much fertilizer. The delicatums were seedlings and are in a bark perlite charcoal mix and have sent out new growths over the last few months that are much bigger than previous ones. I have 1 speciosum seedling and one division from an orchid club meeting. The seedlings new growth is double the size of previous and the division sent out a new growth about the same size as previous last summer but the new one growing now is much thicker already than previous. I grow them all in normal household temperatures in spring and fall under LED lights and water weekly in the summer. Summer they get outdoor bright shade. I really cut back in the winter. Found too much water gives keikies instead of flowers lol. I'm in northern Alberta so we have short summers and long cold winters. Best of luck !

I live in Brisbane Queensland & have den. kingianums. They grow naturally in south east areas which don’t have much humidity & cold wet winters. Also I grow den. speciosums, which can grow naturally in cooler areas as well as temperate to tropical areas. They all have delicious fragrances!

Be careful what you wish for Nicole 😂 I've had kingianums for 2 3 years now and they grow sooooooo fast and they take up so much space 😂 But once those canes mature and bloom in spring, it's worth the wait! They're tough as nails and so you'll do great with them, cheers!

HAHA! My whole collection of seedling cattelyas have grown up in the last few years and I completely understand this. I look forward to seeing them grow and bloom :)

My kingianum's new cane took off in no time as soon as the temperatures started going back up during spring. I have it in the porch now and this week the temperatures will be in the 90s. Not sure when I'll repot my new Hibiki. I was told it could probably be in the container for another year but maybe I should get it into a new mix before the new roots get too long.

My kingianum hybrids usually last around 2 weeks :)

removing that big keiki was better for the mother plant anyway because it isn't trying to support that keiki and deal with being divided.

Thank you! Good point! I also thought, dang, humidity fluctuates from 25% - 70% now depending on the day... I'll be pissed if these roots dry out 😂

Could be many things - fungal infection, spider mites, cold damage, really hard to know without context / seeing the orchid.

Hi Nicole, I am in south florida. Does your friend sell the kingianums? If so, would you share his contact? Thank you

Hmm, i'll ask him. I don't think so since these are from his personal collection, but can ask.
