This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint these beautiful birds sitting on natural stumps under a blossoming tree. You'll learn how to paint this image of "Blossoming Blue Birds" that is realistic and has dimension. Using only 3 brushes and 8 colors we'll create these magnificent male Blue Birds with fluffy feathers and brilliant colors nestled under a spring tree with a natural abstract background that provides the illusion of a morning sky with gentle clouds, mist or fog, lifting off of the ground. So let's get painting and let's get sipping!

Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 1/2 flat bristle (large), #8 round (medium), #2 round (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, green oxide, chrome yellow, burnt umber (brown), mars black, cobalt blue, burnt sienna (rust), magenta
Other: palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint the sky with black, blue and white
2. #8 round brush - Paint stumps with black, brown, rust, yellow and white
3. #8 round brush - Paint the base coat of bird with white
4. #8 round brush - Paint the branches with black, brown and white
5. #8 round brush - Paint the wild grass with brown, green, yellow and white
6. #2 round brush - Paint blue areas on bird with blue
7. #2 round brush - Paint black and shadow areas of bird with black, brown, blue and white
8. #2 round brush - Finish body feathers with brown, rust, yellow and white
9. #2 round brush - Finish bird details with black, blue, white
10. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint flower blossoms with magenta, rust and white
11. #2 round brush - Sign with black

I used to live in the country and on my back patio I had about 10 hummingbird feeders and about 100 or better hummingbirds and bird houses on most of my trees with indigo buntings in almost every house. I also had a nest in my well house as well as a couple on the front porch. I loved it out there and miss it so much. I'd sit out there on the patio with my coffee of a morning and get dive bombed by all the little hummers and watch all the little momma's feeding babies in their houses. It was my bliss.

Dear Michelle, you have helped me more than you could ever imagine. I have deterioration of the spine, which causes me not to be able to do a lot of things. I just followed along with this tutorial. I have literally NO painting experience... have just thought that it might be fun to try a new hobby. I love the results.
