We go spearfishing for musselcracker in one of the best known areas in the Garden Route, but Voelklip is known for the wrong reasons. So many people have died on this spot and it is very sad because it is also one of the most beautiful spots in the area.
Pottie is the only spearo that I will attempt to to crazy scary and stupid stuff like this as he knows this area very well. We went in on the flat and when you come out you on a wave.
Pottie managed to hunt down one of those elusive mussel crackers once again and all I could manage was a double up on bonnies and both got away. i hope you enjoy the episode.

Jandre, if I may mention a little something about upgrading outboards. You say 40hp or 50hp and preferably 4 stroke. I agree 100% that 4 stroke is the way to go. Personally I'd go for 60hp for this simple reason: The weight of 40, 50 and 60hp (Yamaha and Suzuki) motors is exactly the same. So, whether you choose any of those on the weight on the transom is the same - and I'd always opt for the 60hp because of that. When you need power, you need power. But that's me. I recon Gecko will be fine with 40hp or 50hp, but awesome with 60hp. Great video! Well done.

Voice overs during entries and exits are really cool. Also if anything unexpected happens or something that may need more context the voice over is a really nice thing to add to the videos to make the viewer understand more about whats going on in the videos and in your head at the time. Great video as always and keep up the hard work 👍

Have to do that everytime I surf. One time waves were huge when I jumped and leg rope caught on a rock. I was hanging upside down with a big wave coming. Luckily my friend was there behind me and un hooked my rope before I got smashed.

I've fished there plenty.. there where you guys came out, 20m back towards the point, there are 2 ledges, like steps , about 30cm high. I've landed big sharks there as it is sheltered from the open sea too. Very easy entry point too... BUT, LIKE YOU SAID... V.E.R.Y. D.A.N.G.E.R.O.U.S. spot .... calm conditions only!! keep up the informative vid's.. 👊🚤🐟

I was there years ago and a mate of mine had to abandon his spear gun to get out , not a place for inexperienced divers , that was the last time he ever dived there.

Dit is n "bucket list" spot vir my om te duik, maar ek sal heel eerder n boat dive daar wil doen, daai bult is nie n grap nie. As daar een ou is om n risky duik saam met te doen en jou gemaklik te laat voel is dit Potty👍👍

If you'd like some advise in my comment I'd say that with an entry and exit if you have float line let out I alway wrap it around my muzzle and handle in a figure 8 so my float is close and I don't have line that can get stuck 😆 Also, once in the water I use my rubber (if it's not a roller) around my arm to have an extra hand to get my fins on fast. Stay safe and straight spares X)

Yes it was a shark but he did not bother me. If you make any sound for a mussel cracker they are gone. They dont respond to those

Dove there a month ago. Within 20min police patrol boat were on top of us giving us lip claiming its part of portnet.. 😜 Jammer officer. 😜 Back in 91 I saw some nice steenbras on the edge almost in the harbours entrance and tails.

I use to spear fish until my mate and I had a incident with a dolphin that looked like the size of a bus and lost all my gear and to be honest it has put so much fear in me that I have never gone back in 10 years. This was off Umdloti and I thought fuck if this is what happens when a pissed off dolphin what would happen if its a shark. SHit

Dude I think you mean well but dammit stop with all this dangerous "dont try this" and dangerous all that. Yes some guys read the ocean better than some and some guys spearfish better than other but at the end of the day everyone who wants to spearfish will spearfish whether is dangerous or not. No need to add drama. I've been doing it for 34 odd years but I have yet to dissuade people. Never made a cent off of it and never intend to. Your "warnings" is border line psychotic. In a previous video you reminded viewers you provided lessons, yes? Does the warning serve as a marketing tool? if so it is a bad business model, period. It certainly is no more dangerous than riding a bike in city traffic or surfing near rocks or being married 40 years. Relax!!! Make it fun for people to come to you. don't add drama.
