So many sewists would find so much value in learning the Sure Fit Design pattern drawing system. I see so many videos of people going such agony getting their patterns the right size and I feel so lucky to have started my pattern journey with Sure Fit Design.

The best instructions ever. Thank you thank you. I've had my sure fit dress kit for awhile now. But because of your excellent instructions I'm actually making my blueprint and then top. I love the top you're wearing in the 1st part. Keep up the good work, I'm addicted to your videos.

I feel like you're holding my hand and helping me overcome my fear of tackling fitting with Sure Fit Designs.

I am so glad you are so smart. You are an awesome teacher. I now know that first attempts on Sure fit is a joke . I was expecting much more from them. Now I realize we are so different that Sure Fit give a good vasis that we can manipulate. Thanks Joy

If bust measurement vs over the bust mesurements is 2inch higher you need go for D cup and each half of inch up give another cup size ..if I remeber it correctly.

You are so funny! Love your sense of humor! I actually have been working on doing this bodice with SFD. I emailed Glenda and asked her about the bust dart. She said to use the cup size of your best fitting bra instead of their calculations. I did that and still had to add the the bust dart because of the arm scythe wrinkle. After a week and a half of work, I finally have a top pattern! Yay!!! Now I get to start designing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience! I cannot tell you how much it has helped my journey!

Curve in bodice are made to compensate for dart on rounded shape I think . 🤔 I watch so many of this videos from Glenda SFD I start figure out what I done wrong when I try do all by myself . Glenda always mention yiu as great resource for sew and tell or sew along . It make me laught when you say ... I will eyeball ...I sew so many times I will just do it .... do as I say not as I do (when you take pins to your moth 😬🥴😵💫 I have had goose bumps when I see it)...or best are her dot here mine here and I do my way bcs I know my body best 👌. I see how ladies make commercial paterns in profecional fashion house (I help them copies and size them ) from blueprint to venom and later to paper for cutting on massive 15m table. At that time I have no clue what I doing and for what reason just follow instruction .. now its all make sense..finely .

I try few times to do my pattern and today I cut one of muslins to see better how it fit , OMG 😱 I can see with this fabric that doesn’t stretch my big hump in the back , also going by the measurements bust it feel too tight, this was a good way to find out how bad of shape I am , tomorrow will start again with few adjustments, one on the back like you did and second will few more inches around hip and waist, I moved the direction of the bust dart a bit.
@engien4602 жыл бұрын
Difference on back can compensate for perusing bottom??? maybe and how material drape .My paterns never make sense when are flat but when you carry rules and keep darts and grain effect are great .... I have big bust ,big hips ,small waist ,big belly (diabetic belly -working gard to take it out ) and abdominal full of surgeries (scared to go back for next ) so I decided to learn payern making to make my own clothes . From childhood I have custome made clothes done by great mistresses until I cone to UK ...if you find good one it's hard to persuade them to sew for you more than one vertion in one go bcs they want be paid (even difference is just in sleeves).

Oh Joy, Joy, Joy. You have made my year. I have been struggling with the fit of a jacket with the exact same wrinkle issue on the back as you. I changed the armscye which helped but not completely. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out what it was. I asked several people and they all said the back. One person even told me to take in my center back seam making it smaller.. which I tried to even more problems. Love you and thank you so much.

I think the curve is there because when you make a skirt it allows it to sit on a curved body.

Joy, thank you for doing this! I never would have thought to P&P the surefit blueprint with the pattern ease. Brilliant! I'm working on mine now, and I'm excited to use this method. Oh! By the way, I clean my SFD Stylus with a magic eraser. Just wet the eraser with water, wring it out and start wiping; it takes everything off....works like a charm!😀

Absolutely Brilliant idea of doing the P & P !! Saves that extra step of fitting the blueprint before you make up the muslin. I too have narrow shoulders, big bust and sway back. You are a God send!!

Hi Joy, just in case you didn't solve the quandry about why your Back Bodice pattern was 1/2" higher at the waist, but not on the Front Bodice: Answer ~ The Front is longer to accomodate the volume/protrusion of the Bust mass. Our backs are usually straight down, but most busts/chests are Not straight down from the shoulder. Make sense?

Question: After doing this blueprint a few times, I too need a round back correction. I tried the shoulder dart and that worked pretty well for me. Would this round back correction work like the shoulder dart? I’m wondering why you do it this way instead of putting in a back shoulder dart. This one seems a lot easier for construction for sure but I’m wondering how the fit would be different.
@Joy4650B3 жыл бұрын
I have great results with the round back. My shoulder area has never been an issue because I have narrow shoulders.
@catherinekershaw3244 жыл бұрын
How does one know how much to adjust for a swayback and or round back or both?
@phylliscampbell23253 жыл бұрын
She draws the curve so that if you want a seam at the waist, you will have a curved seam to go around your waist. This is a blueprint. But you are making a blouse blueprint for which you are not making a seam at the waist. If, you wanted to put a peplum for the skirt of your blouse, for example, you would want that curved seam.

Joy, is the tabletop you are cutting on made of a special cutting mat material? If so where did you get one that size?
@Joy4650B4 жыл бұрын
You can order the large mat to fit your large table, but the mat is not as good as the Olfa mats. It wears blades out quickly. If you do a search, you will find lots of places that sell them. There may be a better brand than what I have.

I think you are a frustrated teacher. Lol. You love slapping that ruler and using the red pencil. You are an excellent teacher. Thank you. I really don’t understand how you would line up the center back on the fold using the top and the bottom of the pattern piece. Wouldn’t you lose what you just added for the round back adjustment?

I'm anxiously awaiting my Surefit dress and pants kit. I've purchased red pencils, LOL. Found my two kits on Ebay at much reduced price. Joy, you begin my every day smiling and spur me on to sew. I needed a bigger cup to get the extra fabric out of my armhole. There was too much LENGTH from under my arm down to my waist.
