We finally got this video edited a bit late. Sean and I got super sick with the Epic Shoot crud. Sort of like the shot show crud only with more cringe. We wanted to get this video out earlier but.......well now you know why. For those asking, the MOAP is next. We were filming it while sick so it took some time to get it all just right. We will have it up shortly.

Shaped charge liners... we know they turn into a compressed molten 'slug' but what affects the penetration the most? Density? Melting point? How spectacular would a magnesium liner look when fired? Would a graphite liner actually work due to the exceedingly high melting point? Does it work the other way, with low-temp liners made of tin, zinc, or even... wax? These are the foundational questions of life...

I think it's a misconception. Shaped charge is actually solid not molten. Half of the people in this world "believe" it's actually molten jet. And half of the people believe it's solid copper stretched and acts like molten...the myth is out there with no way to debunk...
@mfree80286

@@7150285 Ok, let's change that to "possessing enough energy to flow as if it were liquid, and really damned hot due to deformation stresses and physical compression, and exhibiting point melting when striking a solid target". And you can't deny the last bit as it's plainly visible in high speed film of a much slower, less energetic process (bullets striking resistant targets causing splash and sometimes autoignition of vapor)

@@mfree80286 even in high speed slomo, it is almost impossible to tell if the jet is solid or molten. TheSlowMoGuys did a KZbin vid of copper cone oil perforator in extreme high speed slomo, however it is extremely and nearly impossible to tell if the jet is actually molten copper or solid...

When I was a kid about 55 years ago we used to make all kinds of bombs. We started with caps that went in our toy guns and moved up from there. One time I got gunpowder out of some shotgun shells. They were the old cardboard shells. We put the shells back together and put them back where we got them. We got lots of satisfactory booms out of bombs made out gunpowder. Unfortunately, my father took those shells we took the powder out of hunting. A pheasant flew up and my father pulled the trigger. POP! Was all he got. He tried another shell. Same result. I got punished when my father got home. After that we learned how to make gunpowder.

Modern guns usually use 'smokeless' powder, which is generally some mixture of nitrocellulose, a solvent such as ether (sometimes the solvent is actually nitroglycerin for extra power) and stabilisers like petroleum jelly and calcium carbonate.

It's hard to choose between the wine bottle and soda bottle charges. They are both performing great. You're on the mark in getting them to perform as they should. And you've done very well on this outing. The 'vlog' thing is what it is and it works when you need it. Don't give up on it for situations that require it. But always diversify when it comes to running your channel. It can't hurt.

one of my best memories was during basic and seeing phos grenade going off in an old beat up APC and watching the flames and the smoke come out .. my first real experience learning about grenades. Just understanding on how it works in a closed off environment and watching how the smoke and heat escapes from all the doors etc..
