The red sea aquariums call for a premium price and supply a substandard product. Their margins have to be absolutely insane. Silicone seals should last at least 10-15 years on the conservative side. More likely 20-30 years.

My RedSea failed in Oct. It was a disaster, just got my floor replaced last week. When I was getting the tank ready for disposal, I flipped it upside down and I noticed the silicone is not consistent near the leaking point, there was a join point in the middle, silicone has different color, different consistency left and right of the joining point.

I run a freshwater system but use a RedSea ReefWave to help with nutrient suspension/export, as such I am part of a RedSea forum in the UK. This new level RedSea aquarium you talk about coming on an Aluminium stand, the aquarium doesn’t fit on the stand and overhangs a good half inch if not more side to side guess what’s been reported on these setups… the glass is horrifically chipping away on corners to the point the glass thickness is down to a third thickness and writing that tank off as a potential glassblowing not seal but glass failure. I don’t understand why there hasn’t been a recall of poor product. If a car. Manufacturer creates a dangerous product the vehicle is recalled back, if a small child is near a large system tank and a seal has a catastrophic failure it could very easily cause a life changing injury or worse still a death.. RedSea needs to investigate their product line and understand why or how poor products or workmanship is being produced..

What has been kind of suspicious is that those failures tend to happen on tanks where the cabinet does NOT have the front pane supported by the bottom slab or the cabinet top board. Waterbox has the same in their official cabinets. Problem is due to them wanting 'pretty' looking cabinets with 'smooth' fronts where you don't see any 1 to 2 inch (2.5 to 5 cm) wood slab between tank and doors.
@euantan11675 ай бұрын
I’d say it’s because of this. Tons of water pressure pushing against the front glass and corners while not being supported . His failures are mainly at the front seams and not the back. Definitely giving up proper engineering in the name of aesthetics.

I've been in the hobby for 29 years. Redsea have always been extremely good at "marketing" they also seem to realise the majority of people do not stay in the hobby long with an attrition rate of 90% you can see what they are doing here . They price and market their products as premium. They are not premium at all. They are still making their tanks with a diaphram valve that people have been complaining about for a decade. Their G2 has a 5 year warranty which is also laughable. You should get at least 10 years for a material or workmanship defect causing failure

I wonder if a lot of these seam issues are contributed by running powerheads in the wave making modes. I see a lot of reefers that will run this mode for hours a day and it is a lot of force being smashed side to side up against the seams. Also, if I'm not mistaken some of the manufactures warn against this mode for this reason. I encourage people to frequently check seams and if there's any bubbles or irregularity, don't chance it, get drain the tank and get rid of it. I also notice you have very little to no algae on the glass right up against your seams, and you have and algae scrapper. Could it be that you are inadvertently hitting the silicon to get that algae so clean up against the seams?
@michaelfallen15645 ай бұрын
If a powerhead or algae scraper can cause a tank to fail, that tank should not be on the market. Period. It's not like Red Sea designed these tanks to be used as a goldfish tank with no flow and no coralline algae. If those are seriously contributing factors in these failures, it just further highlights that these tanks were poorly designed from the outset.
@Desmo15 ай бұрын
@@michaelfallen1564 wait...are you saying that a manufacturer should be responsible for someone that's accidentally or intentionally getting too close to the silicon with essentially a razor blade, causing damage over time and affecting it's ability to stay bonded? If we're being honest, if you or I owned a manufacturing business of the sort, neither you nor I would want to be responsible for that scenario. BTW there's not a silicon out there that can withstand a scrapper being bumped into for long periods of time, nor is there a company that would be responsible for such a scenario if found to be the case. The wave makers are another topic however, I seem to remember reading somewhere either in an ecotech or tank manual to be careful when using a wave maker mode in tanks.
