BLU 7 fitting a fuel filter on a TDVi 2.7 Jaguar XJL X358

John from 'To the Garage' to complete his own 'better than dealer' Service on his Jaguar x350 or X358 Diesel. XJL called Blu. This time its the turn of the Fuel filter.

Forgot to mention the black water drain bleed off screw are notorious for leaking on the LR vehicles especially when the filter is positioned under rear wheel arch where they are exposed to eliminates. I always keep the old filter bleed of screw within the car as emergency backup.

Hi John, when you press in the connectors you are meant to push down and then pull up and they come straight off without a struggle. Keep up the great work 😉

I’ve not wasted time priming them filters and never had an issue. If you want to, fill it from the top !! I just turn the ignition on for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times.

Interestingly, in more modern cars, the phone connected to the car doesn’t ring either...but you get a voice telling you you have an incoming call...and if the person calling you is in your contacts on your phone, the voice system will tell you who it is who is calling you...

another interesting video ,one point (im probably wrong ) on the connection no 1 i note there appears to be a click connector after t joint if so if you disconnected that would it make removing /installing fillter a bit easier .

Hi John, I hadn't yet done the fuel filter on mine, so this was a perfect video for me. Just one observation ; the pipe at the rear side of the filter (the difficult one) looks as though it can be separated into two parts just where it fits to the spigot on the filter. Might make it a bit easier ??? Cheers and thanks, Dave.

I find a screw driver either side in the coloured tabs help. You can get a tool.

Hi..., Have you think about replacing the glow plugs, do you think it would be a big job to do? what would it be the early sings of the glow plugs going bad, if you know them?, thanks...

Hi Carl Not got a need to do it at the moment. Basically as long as you Turn the ignition on and then allow the 3 seconds or so for the glow plug light to go off on the dashboard when cold. The car should start cleanly and almost immediately. When it does not start easily without lots of cranking it is time to change the glow plugs.

Hi Gary Was 142000 when I bought it, now 145000. Was looking for an X350 Diesel in good body condition with a sound engine at a low price. I bought Blu because she was spectacularly cheap!. However the pay off is no service history and lots of small issues. She is a pretty sensible buy from an economics point of view. Only road tax is a little expensive.

I have my own service book my for blu but its s-type 2.7 same colour via 100k miles ı bought from ebay uk jaguardaimler service book ı record everthing bush changes battery filters oil etc also ı have diagnoatic tool(icarsoft) ı try best myself for blu because in turkey jaguar specialist numbers are low normal mechanics are not so many experienced for jaguars german,french and italian car brands popular in turkey volvo and jags need more careful service

Cheers John, great tip on priming the filter first to keep the air out. Looks like a bugger to get out and even trickier to put back in especially without spilling too much diesel. I will be giving this a go with my XJ as it’s almost due for its first home service. Thanks also for sharing your home service sheets too, I actually think we do a more thorough job than the garages when we service our own cars 👍🏻 Keep those vids coming John, you are keeping me out of mischief 😂
