We've been playing Blucher for several years now and stole the momentum system found on KZbin (can't remember where). Instead of rolling, say, 2D6 you make a deck of 13 cards consisting of a Joker and 12 other cards. Taking two non-Joker cards aside you shuffle the rest and place the 2 cards set aside on the top. As you spend momentum you draw a card for each point. Once the Joker turns up, your movement is over. It does skew the odds a bit, as each number has an equal chance to show up, but is a lot easier than trying to roll dice secretly. The two free cards on top represent rolling two 1s, as you have to exceed the number rolled to end the movement. Also the reason for 13 cards: you can spend 12 momentum and still move if you have units left to move. Also it works well for solo play. Another note: The downloadable play aids are excellent. Most games we don't have to even look in the rules. I've played both Blucher and Black Powder, and I find Blucher works well for large battles. Once you're familiar with the rules, games only take a couple of hours to reach a definite conclusiion. Not so much with Black Powder. BP is okay for smaller actions.

For solo play, try rolling the activation dice one at a time. Roll one die and move that number of troops, roll the second-move, and then the third. Not quite the same as a blind roll, but still adds a bit of unknown.

I've had a devil of a time sourcing any of the cards, where did you find them for purchase?

How do you review Blucher now after some more playing ?
