This is referred to as a spoken word poem, a slam poem is for contests. This is way to good to be your first, I love how it leads up to the problems we have in society regarding sexuality. I'm also attracted to both genders, relatable! Last school year, near the end, I started realizing the fact that I wasn't straight or gay. I knew about sexualities, so I decided to consider myself bisexual until further research. So many people didn't even know what it meant, this asshole dude I thought was my friend needed clarification that it wasn't the same as transsexual and kept claiming I would never have sex with a guy and have a kid of my own someday. He kept saying homophobic things, and when I'd tell him, he'd deny it and say even more homophobic things. I don't even think he knew it. I decided not to bring it up anymore. He isn't in my school this year. Earlier today in my last class, a boy who heard I was bisexual last year decided to ask whether it was true. I claimed it was a joke. My family is Christian and low-key homophobic, so I let them think I'm one of them, heterosexual. Your poem is very passionate and too true about modern society. Apparently everyone's straight until told otherwise. Sexuality is way more complicated than people realize, and we need to be educated on these types of things.
@66Raisbel19 жыл бұрын
+Armilla Posadas What you said is very true I feel that I might be bisexual, but I'm not sure. I haven't said the word out loud to anyone, but i have told some siblings and friends that I've had feelings for certain males or females. I really don't know if I am bi and I don't think my mom would take it well I keep telling myself if I did come out I would wait until I stopped living with my mother. That way if she wanted me out of her life I wouldn't have to see her or depend on her every day, but I still can't think about how I would tell her. She is also a Christian and low key homophobic so i don't know how well she would take it. I feel like these feelings are just crushes and I haven't ever been in a relationship so I don't know if I am bi or not. I think I might be.
@yummymackerel9 жыл бұрын
66Raisbel1 Sexuality is very confusing. Even as a kid, I would find myself really wanting to talk to pretty girls because I found them attractive. I brushed it all off as me just wanting to be nice, but over the years, that attraction to females as well as males has come back.

This speaks to me so much!!! The way you read was magnificent, you had put so much feeling into it. When people are asked there sexuality, I think when Bi's (and pans) answer they get both sarcastic and psychotic replies like "Oh ..you haven't decided yet.". But as Blue and Green are your very colors if you were to just pick one you would feel as if you cutting off a piece of you, a piece of your soulful identity. The same goes with picking one gender to love. Love is Love and if you say that, than my god mean it!!! Amazing Poem!!!

you took me on a story in the beginning, I was conceived you were just telling me a story. like the ones you read in play scripts, but then when you got into being 12 and in 6th grade I could really tell how much passion was actually behind this poem. It was slam poems like these that originally got me into writing poetry and slam poetry. the fact this is your first slam piece blows my mind. you've earned a new sub:-))
@lukenelson11549 жыл бұрын
Knowing that you wrote this poem at 1 in the morning just adds to the fact how passionate you are about your writing. I thought that your poem was amazing and it brought some points that I never even considered to realize about how things are looked upon today. I'd also like to mention that I definitely believe that one can choose to be in two different careers. Like how you want to be an actress and a writer, you could write the script of any sorry you can think of and perform in it as well.

You put it into words I never could, so thank you so much for that. I recently came out to my mum as bisexual, but she really doesn't understand how I can be attracted to two genders, 'it's probably just a phase, you're only 16.' I'll most likely apply what I listened to here to our next conversation, or just send her this video. Thank you so very much.

This poem really hit home. I've known i've been Biromantic for nearly a year. It was for an actress that I would never meet and I didn't worry. I didn't worry until I developed strong romantic feelings for my best friend. She's dated a girl before, and even though she says only boys from now I know she's bi in one way or another. It really sucks. I can't lose her. She's my only friend. Gets me better than anyone and I'm a hard person to get, but we're basically the same person.

I cried watching this. I am 13 years old it at school the teachers read books on a topic and expect us to write. Mostly these books are fairytales. My teacher read the story Cinderella,and had us write an essay on if it was modernize what it would be like. I was having a very hard time assuming what it would be like because I hate inferences and using things might cover. The Gayview we had to turn it in, I sat in the back of the room while others was trying to read there's out loud. And mostly was just a guy and a girl, it made me think. Why couldn't pick than two girls or two guys? So after that day at class I asked the teacher if I have extra time to write because I finally have come up with an idea. He said as long as I turned in the next day I had enough time to make it up for half of the credit. So I went home and I started writing up a storm for about two hours. I finished my hand was hurting. I got a C- on the paper n
@sonatamoon81877 жыл бұрын
Despite what the C- says, I'm so happy that you had the bravery to put yourself out there. To try and put out something new. My English teacher constantly reminds us that an idea is the most powerful thing on Earth and if you are not using your imagination, you're doing it wrong, and I strongly stand by these ideas. I'm not sure if you got a C- because of your writing style or your idea, but if its the latter, he needs to understand that ideas should be encouraged and that his job is to help execute these ideas properly. I hope you know that even if your idea wasn't appreciated by him, it was appreciated by so many others. -sincerely, a fellow 13 year old

I'm bisexual and as you said, I don't know what am I supposed to do if one year I'm dating with a girl and everyone thinks I'm "normal" and the next year I start a relationship with a man and everybody assumes that I'm gay, without caring what I actually am. I loved this so much. Every word I was hanging on and loving the description and how clearly I could imagine it, I loved how you structured it in years to show how your entire life has been like this, and the same message every time of it being wrong, but baby girl you should never let anyone tell you that ANYTHING you want to do is wrong, if it’s as harmless as writing and acting, or liking two colours. I want to be a writer and a makeup artist. Two of my greatest passions! Two seemingly non compatible things. But I don’t see why that should stop me. The only thing getting in your way is yourself. If anyone doubts you, just pity them because they don’t understand how passionate you are, because when you’re this passionate nothing will get in your way. Remember I love you! And thank you so much for this.

I love this poem. I can relate to a lot of what you have to say. Recently I made a video of a poem that I wrote and I normally use different people to read and I actually chose a female to read the poem. The main reason I decided to use a female voice was the exact reason you mentioned. I had been programmed to think that way. I love the way the poem turned out and it is great but I still feel like I have somehow not been authentic with my creation. Do you know what I mean?
@lorenzoabrick51886 жыл бұрын
I love this. So much so that I made a transcript of it :> And until I write it out I didn't realise how freaking long it was, so even more respect to you. Blue and Green I'm 5 years old My kindergarten teacher gives us a fun assignment And hands out white paper To all the kids in my class Along with a box of coloured crayons. She claps her hands to get us all to listen, And tells us to draw a flower And colour it in with a colour That makes us think of love She tells us to draw grass under that flower In the colour of our favourite fruit, She proceeds to tell us to draw a sun in The corner of our paper And colour it in with our favourite colour She wants all our drawings to look similar But different And showcase Little tiny snippets About who we truly are I love the idea, and start Colouring madly on my piece of paper The colour pink reminds me of love, And my favourite drink is orange juice And although I've never eaten an orange, I assume it's probably my favourite fruit My beautiful pink flower stands out In the orange grass And I draw a sun in the corner of my paper with my pencil. At this time in my life, I can't really decide Whether my favourite colour is blue or green So I cut my sun in half, I colour the top half blue And the bottom half green And I hold my drawing in the air Yelling "Miss M, I'm done!" Other kids in my class are done as well, And miss M was going around Smiling at their work, Patting them on their heads And giving them gold stars. She takes one look at my drawing And smiles, But then points to my sun. "Alyssa, what's your favourite colour?", She asks me, And I laugh Because I don't have a favourite colour I laugh and I tell her that, I say that I "Love both blue *and* green" And she laughs a hearty laugh And puts the gold star at the top of my paper And tells me that I tried. I tried. I _tried?_ Other kids had gotten gold stars Because their art was beautiful! And I had gotten one because I _tried?_ I have a 6-hour knot in my stomach And I slump down in my seat. I grab the blue crayon And go over the green part of my sun with the blue. I bring my drawing back to my teacher again And ask her if it's better now, If now it's beautiful. She smiles again and tells me that of course she thinks it's beautiful And gives me an extra gold star. I'm nine years old. I'm in the third grade, playing games at recess with my friends It's finally starting to get warm And the snow is finally starting to melt In windy New York They're finally starting to let us out for recess again And me and one of my friends Are in a super-rigourous Hula-hooping contest. One of the teachers is playing music, Kind of a tiny speaker in the corner of the blacktop And me and my friend will not stop hula-hooping! Finally, the bell rings that breaks both of us out of our trance And we drop our hula hoops simultaneously The teacher who was refereeing our contest Yells out that "It's a tie!" Me and my friend are smiling Because a tie means that we've both won And we high-five and run to tell our own teachers about our really successful contest But then I hear one of my friends make a sound of disgust And grunt under her breath about how "Ties suck and there has to be one winner" I'm confused, because I thought Ties were supposed to be a good thing And that two winners are better than one But I learn again that that's not the case Later in the year, At a little league softball game Where after two innings of equal point increases The game ends in a tie, And the coach of the opposing team Throws his clipboard on the ground Besides the fact that we're nine-year olds playing softball in this moment, And this man did *not* just lose the World Series I'm confused about why the man's angry about a tie Because as far as I know, Ties are good Ties are not good. I'm 12 years old I'm passionate about a whole lot of things I'm a smiley 6th grader With a fiery attitude Who's ready for college already My teacher laughs at me when I tell him that, And he tells me to slow my role until I graduate Teachers of the 6th grade are _obsessed_ with asking their children What they want to do when they grow up. Whenever I hear the question, I get a nervous tug on my heart Because although I love writing and my stories are my oxygen, I like to act. I love the idea of being able to play And pretend to be someone I'm not I can't choose what I want to be when I grow up, and I know from experience That it's not a good thing to like two things So when my 6th grade teacher Pulls me up to his desk to ask me What I want to be when I grow up I mumble out my answer. He wants me to speak more clearly, So I say "A writer and an actress." And he just smiles and tells me That I have to pick Just One. I mumble out "actress" because A comes before W in the alphabet And for a few months, the writer in me dies My writer's block is like a brick wall in front of me I abandon every story I write after I get Through one page And I feel like a failure I should have learned my lesson. You can only like one thing. I'm 14 years old. I've finally got over a boy Who I've had a crush on for 5 years He had always been intimidated by me And broke off our friendship after I told him That I had feelings for him. Loosing him as a friend had broken my Tiny 10-year-old heart But realising that he wan't the boy for me Made me feel better than anything When I'm in eighth grade, I develop a new crush That starts out really small And that I try to deny for as long as I physically can Because I think I might have a crush on my best friend But that *definitely* is not a good thing Because my best friend is not male And I'm not afraid of being gay, Because my parents had always been accepting And told me that they would love me no matter what, No, I was afraid because I knew That I was not gay The realisation that I liked girls As well as boys Hit me like a freight train because My whole life I had been programmed to think That liking two things instead of one Was the worst thing that I could do. Because in the world that we liv in in today, Children are assumed heterosexual and cisgendered The moment they come out of their mother's womb Because they sell onesies for infants that say "lady's man" And assume that just because this baby Is born with a penis that he is a *man* And just because this child is male That he will eventually love females Because if I am assumed heterosexual until I say otherwise And hold hands with a girl walking down the street, I am gay now Because if I were ever to be seen in the future By the same person who had seen me holding hands with a girlfriend And now I have a boyfriend They would stare open-mouthed Because I'm "supposed to be gay" How the hell am I holding hands with a man? Because in this world today, When someone asks you what your favourite thing is, You better not ever reply With two things Because in this world today A tie is the worst thing that can happen In any kind of sports event Because in this world today College students who double major Are seen as crazy And as a high school student, you better Just have one damn career path that you're going down Because in this world today You have to be either hetero-straight or homo-gay And fit every single stereotype Of said sexuality But let's not forget that This is the same world That spits out phrases at you like "The more the merrier" and "Two is better than one" and It isn't just people who like two things Or fall into the middle, Because while the phrase "Two is better than one" Doesn't actually apply to society Neither does "The more the merrier" Pansexuals face just as much erasure as bisexuals, Probably more, and People who don't fit into the two binary genders Are usually not recognised at all Because the entire world is constantly seen In black and white And shades of grey are non-existant But my favourite colours have always been Blue and green. So what am I supposed to do about that?

LOVED THIS! :) just for the record: the style is called "spoken word" or "a spoken work poem." a slam is an actual competition where poets or teams are judged. slams suck, in other words. ;) you have a gift for story telling. i'd love to see more. you popped up in my feed because i'm a big lover of poetry. i don't know what else you post about, but i think i'll subscribe just to see if you'll get down like this again.
@dustinhope71809 жыл бұрын
TheWanderer The style is also called slam poetry, and is usually, but not always, done at a poetry slam.

okay, Dustin Hope. clearly we're gonna have to agree to disagree. i wasn't looking for an argument. just trying to bring clarity to a common misconception. but whatever. i have no investment in what you wish to hold as true.
@dustinhope71809 жыл бұрын
I was just trying to bring clarity to the fact that you are not the Grand Arbiter of poetry, and if she wants to call it slam poetry, then she can and should.
@BohemianKitsch9 жыл бұрын
Dustin Hope you're acting like i called her a bad person or disrespected her somehow. i'm not the one with the chip on my shoulder here. YOU seem to be the Grand Arbiter if there is one in this conversation.
@Louise-ee1qr9 жыл бұрын
hey calm down. Didn't you just say ''we're gonna have to agree to disagree''? Well, judging by the way you said ''in what you wish to hold as true''... I think this is a contradiction...

That was absolutely amazing, having a sexuality that isn't gay or straight, I can really relate. I also love how raw and fresh you are in this video. You weren't afraid to cut what most people find embarrassing out of your video and that feels really great.

I appreciate this so much, as a poet because performing a poem for the first time for an audience is terrifying. And you are so brave to do it. The poem itself was wonderful and I also appreciate this as a pansexual woman with two bisexual men.

I love how you mentioned panseexuals because we’re usually looked at and said “no you’re bi, there’s only two genders” which related to transgenders and the whole nine yards. I’m glad I found Simone who actually accepts pansexuals and I’m glad it was through this kickass poem. Congrats, you just earned yourself a new subscriber. You’re a great writer, so keep going. Great job!

I was watching poetry and seen my favorite colors are green and blue and I was like hey that's me☺️we have the same favorite colors😂 it wasn't until later that I realized the title had bisexual in it and I was like hey I'm bisexual too and this video only got more relatable when I heard some of the stories you told ❤️I've saved this to my favorite poetry videos and just wanted to say thank you for sharing this 💕

From a creative writing major, poetry is a form of language typically written in stanzas and rich in poetic elements such as rhyme, repetition, metaphors, similes, layered meanings, etc. I agree her poem isn't slam it's just a story but it's cool for her first time

There is no one way to write a slam poem. This is a very creative way, almost in a story telling way, but you do an amazing job at this. The way you perform, the way you have written it to me. I see the big point your getting at here. It's almost like your story's are metaphors for the big point. I love you poem, so thanks for writing it!😁

Be proud of who you are because you’ll just have so much fun. Knowing who you are and accepting it are also very different things, and you should try your hardest to do both, no matter what parents or friends or random douches say, because fuck them, they don’t understand
