There was a time, years ago, while channel surfing, I would jump right past Blue Bloods. I wasn't much into the cop show scene. I figured it was just another one of those cheesy cop/lawyer shows. But then, for some reason, I was prompted to watch an episode and I was hooked. And thanks to ION TV I get to watch all the old episodes every Wednesday. I don't have much of a family myself, but the family dinner scenes were always my favorite part.

As much as I appreciated the characters and some episodes, it was becoming predictable, little to no evolution. Frank, his priest, his team, his integrity; Erin, her boss, her PI, integrity; Danny, his boldness, case solved; The family dinner at the end of the episode. So many roads not taken, with the grandchildren, Erin, Frank and Danny’s dating life; most of all, as a black female and 30 year NYC resident, I did not like how minorities were portrayed. A black actor who attended an audition for the show said he walked out because all the available roles were for criminals. Makes sense since the majority of black characters were criminals or white collared criminals. I found myself getting excited about a black person joining Franks team, of course after a couple of episodes they were phased out. NYC is the definition of diverse. I bid them a farewell and look forward to more inclusive programming.

It was one of our favorite shows but got real tired of Danny’s character. I was a cop once and no detective on our department worked the kind of hours he did.
