When I lived down there , you could stop at this place on card sound road , before the bridge and pick your own Blue Crab out of some tanks that a fella would trap . I think it was $25 dollars for a 5 gallon bucket of them . And I think there was toll shack there at the time . I wanted to try Lobster traps but I just never got the permits and at the time I think you had to have them for each trap (pot). Yummy Stone Crabs , another great adventure .

native stacker: Would love to find that place now. I think we like blue crabs better than stone crabs sometimes. Can’t find anyone down here selling them. -Capt Dan

Brings back memories of living off of Chesapeake Bay blue crabs ( cooked with Old Bay Seasoning ,beer and vinegar). We would put newspapers on the table. BTW, the more seasoning put on the crabs, the more beer we would drink. Lol! Now I live where you can eat one Dungeness crab and get full instead of picking thru a dozen blue crabs and have sore fingers. I would LOVE to have a soft shell blue crab sandwich right now, just have to make sure the legs and claws are tucked away in the bread!

If you put a dash of distilled vinegar in the water before you cook the crabs, it will make the meat sweeter and also the meat will detach from the shell in a much easier manner.

We’ll take the blue claws all day long, especially those size! Capt Dan 3:16 words to live by!😂😂👍❤️ Try using the back (dull side) of a butter knife to crack the stone crab claw. Give the claw a hard smack and it will crack the claw nicely. Make your own mustard sauce to dip the stone crab, also good on king crab legs Ingredients 1 cup mayonnaise 2 tbsp. half-and-half 4 tsp. dry mustard 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp. A.1. Steak Sauce Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste Instructions Whisk mayonnaise, half-and-half, mustard, Worcestershire, and A.1. sauce in a bowl until smooth; season with salt and pepper and chill. Serve as a dipping sauce with all kinds of crab.

Take a 24oz can of San Marzano tomatoes and make a sauce. I use the whole tomatoes and mash them in a pot with about 3/4 small can of paste, garlic and olive oil, basal, salt to taste. Then take about a dozen (a few less is fine) blue claws, clean them raw just as you did cooked, remove the claws, break in half and cook the claws and bodies in the sauce (low simmer) for about an hour. Serve over linguine. It will be the best sauce you've ever had and the crabs will be delicious!

Stone crab claws are my absolute favorite crab to eat. If you have those the blue crab is better for permit bait. Lol I’ve always had better luck with fish and fish carcasses as bait than pig feet and chicken.

I usually add a tbsp or 2 of white vinegar to the water. Meat comes off the shell a ton easier and doesn't effect the taste. Great job you two
@FloridaFishingCouple5 жыл бұрын
I’m surprised it doesn’t affect the taste! I love vinegar, so it probably wouldn’t matter to me, but it is surprising! -Elizabeth
