How often do you usually feed them and how much food per beetle?
@newtscamander77133 жыл бұрын
@@KyuuStarr I usually feed mine about three times a week with beetle jelly, and then I feed dried shrimp whenever they're done eating the last ones. They eat a ridiculously small amount if you just have one or a few, so I usually do just enough beetle jelly so it doesn't dry out within a day (I have three), and I feed one dried shrimp per beetle. If it wasn't for catching them eat once in a while, I would have almost no idea that they're even eating! But who knows, I might have magically disappearing shrimp and immortal beetles that don't need food.

@@CatStina I just got 6 of em have them in a really nice enclosure too. Just a general question for you how often do you see your beetles feeding? I've noticed they don't eat very much at all. (Apart from a male I have which eats like a horse) how often do you change out your food? Do you just keep them fed but make sure the food is fresh?
@CatStina Жыл бұрын
@@adamlord3550 that's awesome! I bet they're fun to watch! Theyre so cute and funny when they walk around. And I bet it's cool having multiple so you can see them interract! For Ana, I noticed nibble marks out of the food more often than I saw her eating but I'd see her eat every few days to once a week depending on what foods I put in. She loved oranges and would often eat them as soon as they were put out! Unfortunately she passed away. When I called the pet store to ask what might have happened, it turned out that she was wild caught and likely older than I thought. I'm hoping that captive breeding them will be more successful in the future so theyre more widely available and then folks have a better chance of having them long term. But I'd still get another one in the near future, probably try and pick a smaller one because maybe that would be a younger one. I picked the biggest one they had available when I got my beetle, so that's where that thought process came from. Sorry for the text wall, I'm Autistic and have a hard time not including way too many details! 😅
@Ryodraco6 ай бұрын
@@CatStina I know you posted this a while ago, but if you're curious the size of an adult beetle has nothing to do with their age. Once they pupate they cease to grow bigger (in fact an adult beetle is lighter than the full grown larva, as nutrients are used up in the non feeding pupa stage), so the size of an adult beetle has to do with genetics and how much they eat as larva. Hence there being no telling how old a wild caught beetle is.
