How often do you usually feed them and how much food per beetle?
@newtscamander7713
@newtscamander7713 3 жыл бұрын
@@KyuuStarr I usually feed mine about three times a week with beetle jelly, and then I feed dried shrimp whenever they're done eating the last ones. They eat a ridiculously small amount if you just have one or a few, so I usually do just enough beetle jelly so it doesn't dry out within a day (I have three), and I feed one dried shrimp per beetle. If it wasn't for catching them eat once in a while, I would have almost no idea that they're even eating! But who knows, I might have magically disappearing shrimp and immortal beetles that don't need food.

@@KyuuStarr It sounds like they scavenge fruits and veggies and such so give them an assortment of food and change it for fresh every couple days, so they always have food around.

@@CatStina I just got 6 of em have them in a really nice enclosure too. Just a general question for you how often do you see your beetles feeding? I've noticed they don't eat very much at all. (Apart from a male I have which eats like a horse) how often do you change out your food? Do you just keep them fed but make sure the food is fresh?
@CatStina
@CatStina Жыл бұрын
@@adamlord3550 that's awesome! I bet they're fun to watch! Theyre so cute and funny when they walk around. And I bet it's cool having multiple so you can see them interract! For Ana, I noticed nibble marks out of the food more often than I saw her eating but I'd see her eat every few days to once a week depending on what foods I put in. She loved oranges and would often eat them as soon as they were put out! Unfortunately she passed away. When I called the pet store to ask what might have happened, it turned out that she was wild caught and likely older than I thought. I'm hoping that captive breeding them will be more successful in the future so theyre more widely available and then folks have a better chance of having them long term. But I'd still get another one in the near future, probably try and pick a smaller one because maybe that would be a younger one. I picked the biggest one they had available when I got my beetle, so that's where that thought process came from. Sorry for the text wall, I'm Autistic and have a hard time not including way too many details! 😅
@Ryodraco

@@CatStina I know you posted this a while ago, but if you're curious the size of an adult beetle has nothing to do with their age. Once they pupate they cease to grow bigger (in fact an adult beetle is lighter than the full grown larva, as nutrients are used up in the non feeding pupa stage), so the size of an adult beetle has to do with genetics and how much they eat as larva. Hence there being no telling how old a wild caught beetle is.

can definitely vouch for the hardiness of these. I live in Norway and my girlfriend lives in the US, and she had these little beetles. She was moving and she didnt want the hassle of taking them with and I said I could take them, so she shipped them priority on the 2nd of june They got lost in the mail, and arrived yesterday. (21st of July) I was really sad and was sure that they would all be long dead, but when I opened the box, only 3/10 had passed away. Im now the happy owner of 7 blue death feiging beetles who by the looks of it survived by eating the paper towel in their deli cups. Beetles are incredible.

This video sold me on getting a group beetles. I rent a room, and spend about 11 hours a day (M-F) away for work, so I needed to get pets that wouldn't care about my absence, and wouldn't need someone to look after them should I choose to go somewhere for a couple days. These things are neat to interact with, and stupidly easy to care for.

Totally unrelated comment, but just wanted to say thanks to Clint and the crew. Somehow came across these videos a couple of months ago, and Clint's love of these animals is soooooo darn infectious. Just picked up my first pet reptile, an absolutely adorable okeetee corn.

Epic fact, i know a dude who keeps these with his desert hairy scorpion. Apparently the scorpion doesn't care at all about the beetles and the beetles dont really interact with the scorpion. His desert hairy is kinda small so im unsure if this would change when the scorpion is fully grown but hes kept them together for a few months with zero issues. They even act as cleanup crew for the scorpions leftovers.

Came back to this video since I got some of these at a convention in the UK and they’re wonderful. They’re chilling with my desert hairy scorpion and eat all my leftover dead feeders. Incredible critters

Just got three of these a few weeks ago! One male and two female. I would have gotten more but I'm in England so they are a little more pricey here. Found two eggs so far, one of which has already hatched. Already eyeing up an incubator to get once the larvae get bigger. I'm looking forward to the challenge!

@@ClintsReptiles Oh I watched that last night! Its exciting stuff! I'm wondering that if the surface pupation goes well, that we may eventually be able to use florist's foam to carve out pupation chambers like some beetle breeders do for larger species. It would allow for easier monitoring of the pupa's development, and the surface of it should be grippy enough to allow the beetle to turn itself. Plus its useful for manually adjusting the humidity without relying on a incubator which means breeding these beetles could become more accessible to more people in the hobby, since reptile incubators can get a little expensive.

I just got four of these guys thanks to this video. I've been waiting for them to be in stock somewhere since it came out and finally found some! They're ridiculously cute. I found my largest one trying to haul a piece of dog food bigger than him off to eat in privacy this morning. :)
